When a developer makes a statement like this, they should be held to it, and taken to task if the end results do not meet the expectations they set.
Nah. All that will happen is that said Dev will be less inclined to give an interview next time, as everything they say can and will be used against them in a Court of Forum.
If you want an official statement, read the official blogs. If it's not in there, STFU.
actually with the dev in question, this would probably be a good thing. nearly everytime they give a interview, they say something the causes a lot of fuss. and since it seems they can not help it. limiting the number of interviews even casual ones, actually especiallycasual ones, to limit the number of problemtic statements is preferable. not really ideal but what is.
The dev in question is unfortunately also the dev that has the most interesting information and insights to offer into STO in the first place, because he has been around since the start, in the very position he still is in.
Many of the other devs are comparatively "fluff". T
I think you better adjust your expectations and try to not read too much between the lines (especially since this stuff is spoken, not written down), rather than have him not speak at all.
and it really isn't interpretable he made a comparative statement. you can agree or not if cryptic did it, and I'm not really interested in debating that right now, but the statement itself is pretty clear.
You're not willing to accept that you interpreted something in the statement that was not explicitely there. He even said in the very statement people focus so much on that they deliberately shyed away from calling out the TOS faction a faction since there were problematic connotations with that. Might be nice if he had spelled those connotations out explicitly, but he wasn't writing a technical report, he was in a verbal interview that was held live.

Yeah, except he's the 'boss' man, so I really *do* want to hear from him, occassionally.
Like I said, if he writes things like that in an official blog, then go ahead, and blast him all you want. But attacking him so fiercely over something he said in an interview, phrased in a way that could still be interpreted many ways, that's just not nice.
No, boss man is the one that sounded like he was talking into a potato last week

in this case I, personally, had none to disappoint. I basically stopped caring once they comfirmed no kdf/rom stuff.
and again that only reinforces the idea that the statement was a dumb one to make. last I checked this wasn't 3 dudes in their mom's basement doing this, but people who do this for a living. a professional doing something they already know is dumb isn't an excuse. in fact if they hadn't we would be having this conversion. I mean I've seen people get fired, hell I been fired for less. and no this this not me asking for people's job just pointing out how dumb this whole things is. on everyone part. it could have been so easily avoided.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

its always amazing how the cryptic defense force gets quiet after someone posts something so reasonable they cant make a real argument against it.
"Reasonable" as in "calling a statement by some person 'getting quiet' because it is of a different opinion than other statements by completely different persons who I choose to throw together as some imaginary 'defence force' instead of accepting that they may just be different people with different opinions"?
that way the misunderstanding gets cleared up instead of being allowed to grow and grow and grow. he could have put this issue to bed the day after the interview by just explaining what he meant. instead he ignored all questions about it. he does bear the reponsibility for that at least.
While I do agree on the general issue, I very much doubt that any misunderstanding will be put to bed and not grow on the internet. We can - and should - try to do anything helping the issue, but considering how many completely disproven myths or outdated issues are still creeping up years later... this would haunt any author of a quote (or non-quote) anyway. All the more reason to watch your words, though.
