I want to like AoY; visually it is brilliant (even if I can sympathise with those who find the grainy-ness too much, it ought to have been optional. But it is definitely authentic) and unlike most in this thread I haven't noticed any visual issues, but that is likely just me not noticing it.
It feels great, up until the messing around with time starts, because it feels so forced. And what makes that worse is you get to the 25th century and then the first person you speak to tells you to pretend your entire life up to that point effectively never happened, you get told to put on a modern uniform, lied to about Fleet Admiral Quinn's uniform standard, then dumped into a 24th/25th century ship and off you go.
And everything that is great about AoY -unless you also like JJtrek- is now pretty much forever out of that character's reach unless you used the going to bridge to use the account bank workaround before the last TOS era mission. And that is sad, because the quality and feel of the TOS stuff is really good, at least to me...
I enjoyed it a lot. It started with a very nice and fun tutorial; not too long but not too short, and each quest after that got better and better. All six quests were very good and a few bordered on great. I got a creepy 'Bonniekin' vibe from the one with the neural parasites, and the Tholian episode went nothing like I expected and was rather poignant. The ending was breathtaking, but left me with a bittersweet feeling. I mean, there I was suddenly at 25th Century ESD, thinking how much I had enjoyed AoY, but at the same time feeling a bit blue that it had ended way too soon. Other than the shortness of it, my only nitpick is the speech animations seemed a bit awkward at times. That said, I felt AoY featured some of the best writing and quests I've seen in STO.
My only complaint, is that it should of been long enough so I didn't have to do the Klingon war atleast nor Nimbus III(I abhor that arc with a passion).
