I see a drop in prices for Inspirational Leader and Plasmonic Leech in the near future.
And an increase in the price of certain duty officers. I'm surprised no one else is commenting on this.
Frankly, since I don't really care for X or Y doff that are solely used for more DPS and many sought after doffs have been replaced by all the cooldown reductions left and right, it doesn't really affect me at all.
"Most prize entries will reward the key-user with an Infinity Prize Pack for whichever prize entry they won. Infinity Prize Packs are bound to the person that won them"
So these prize pack are Bound therefore is you win the t6 ship it is bound, you cant sell?
But when you chose the ship that you can sell?
Correct. You can't sell the "any [Tier] ship" pack. You can sell whatever ship you chose to get from it.
In order to help ensure that this massive number of prizes doesn’t place your desired prize too far out of reach, we are introducing an element of choice into the Infinity Lock Box. Most prize entries will reward the key-user with an Infinity Prize Pack for whichever prize entry they won. Infinity Prize Packs are bound to the person that won them, but offer an unrestricted choice as to which item they wish to have won. Once that choice is made, the item(s) rewarded will be unbound, and can be freely traded/sold/gifted to other players.
EXAMPLE:
You may win an item named “Infinity Prize Pack: T6 Starship” which will be bound to the character that won it. Upon using/activating this package, you will be presented with a choice that includes all previously offered T6 Starships: Benthan Assault Cruiser, Vaadwaur Manasa Assault Escort, Krenim Imperium Warship, etc.
Choosing any of those entries will reward you with a packed-up version of the chosen ship, which can then be kept and opened for yourself, or freely traded/sold/gifted to other players.
So, does this mean if we win...
a Bridge Officer Training Manual we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim a Kemocite-Laced Weaponry I specifically?
a Weapon Pack we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim an Elachi Disruptor?
(Also, will the resulting pack start at Rare Mk II/Very Rare Mk IV of pure randomness like older variant weapons, or be updated to start at Very Rare Mk II with a choice of Beam/Cannon/Ground like more recent offerings?)
a Console we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim a Plasmonic Leech?
etc...
You can claim Kemocite-Laced Weaponry I specifically from the Bridge Officer Training Manual pack if that is what you want.
You can pick the Elachi Crescent Weapons pack if you want; but the functionality of that pack is unchanged. Since that one previously did not give the beam/cannon/ground choice; it does not now grant that choice. If you pick a pack such as the Terran Empire Agony Phaser Weapons pack that did grant that choice; it still does.
Yes; the console pack has Console Pack - Ionized Gas Sensor / Plasmonic Leech as an option that you can explicitly pick from an Infinity Prize Pack: Cross-Faction or Salvaged Console drop if you get it.
This looks like a really good solution to the accumulation of Lock Boxes every time a "Last Chance" comes around. It does make getting specific DOffs a bit tougher (and those often have better odds of dropping than the other stuff), but overall this looks like it'll be a nice improvement. Thanks for the clarification on those questions.

Ok the announcement says "nearly all" can we get a list of the items that are being retired just for clarification? Not going to toss out my old boxes quite yet.
lots of stacks - 25x plasmos... also prices are dropping left & right (ships, some traits, the good stuffz ), some try hard to not loose too much from their previous investments but yeah... it's on now and a lot of gamblers wasted a lot of resources in the past in order to gain more EC in return. Lets see how this is evolving over the next few weeks, especially for the time when these boxes are only obtainable from the exchange. Best move ever cryptic, sorry for the gamblers, honestly.
Wow...
Things are really going to get expensive now...
It depends on what your after. On the lock boxes items from the Exchange. I usually go after some ground gear. Mostly the guns. So far to date the Herald was the most expensive for me. I got kits and other stuff.

A few people brought this up in the reddit thread: Starship traits are missing from the Infinity lockbox. I'm not sure if this means they'll be sold separately from now on; maybe, they'll get their own box in the C-Store.

I'm glad I put off a mass opening I was planning to do. I need lobi for some lobi items I want to get but decided to wait until next month before buying some keys.

The specific phrasing in that post (and Bort really is pretty good about phrasing things) makes me wonder if maybe Starship Traits are shifting from Lock Box candidates to account unlocks, thereby requiring the purchase of ships outside of your preferred faction (or using the old Starship Trait crates to do, so while supplies last). Hrm, and in STC they won't even have access to the old Lock Boxes for cross-faction Starship Traits with the introduction of the Infinity Lock Box. That sort of change would be a great way of making faction-specific KDF/Rom ships more desirable to players that primarily hang out Fedside, and visa versa for ships such as the new Fed-only Temporal designs, along with making it useful to level characters outside of your favored faction.
I seriously doubt we'll know until they decide to officially announce that change, though, if that's even the direction they're going...

I now have a fleet bank worth of stuff I'd squirreled away because it was good, but I couldn't decide which character to use it on that I can finally start using. ^.^
However, I suspect people dumping dil to get zen to get keys will top off the exchange for a while.
"You may win an item named “Infinity Prize Pack: T6 Starship” which will be bound to the character that won it."
So how does that work with old packs that didn't have a T6 ship as the top prize, but a T5u?
There's 4 different ship pack items. T6-Ultra rare, T6, T5, and T5 Secondary. All of the ships that were available from the old boxes will be in one of the 4 packs. So if you get a T6 then you can get one of the regular T6 ships, to get a T5 ship you'll need one of the T5 picker items depending on which ship you want.
I see two problems with this. One, the cost of keys on the exchange has skyrocketed. Two, once the event is over, why bother with current lock boxes anymore when you can just wait for the next infinity box event to get what you really want?

People will want the shiney right away rather than waiting months.

This. The price of the keys has always gone up when a new lockbox comes out and when there is a rerun event. I see this as both, so not surprised at the price of the keys going up. It's a rerun event but it's also shiny and new and people want to test out the new boxes and try to get that 1 item that's been alluding them.
Hmm, this could be interesting indeed! Now, what to do with my stash of assorted lockboxes....?
Delete them... they're just as worthless to everyone else as they are to you.
Just because you don't like the boxes and think they are worthless doesn't mean that everyone else does. I enjoy them (not just in this game but every game I play that has something similar).

LOL! I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at your pain. I'm laughing because that could so easily have been my pain. That stinks, really.
