Clever, putting the drop tables of retired boxes behind a single item Should clear some inventories up.
Not opening boxes very often, but it'll certainly make inventory management a bit easier

And do the prices of the old boxes still clogging the Exchange go up?
Runs until the release of Agents of Yesterday, eh? Kelvin Lockbox confirmed for the 6th! Hold on to your butts!
Hmmm, not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
On one side there is not much reason to hold on to old lockboxes anymore since anything they held can be potentially obtained from the Infinity lockbox. I could clear up a lot of inventory space by getting rid of all the old boxes I have laying around.
On the other hand, I have a feeling that the odds of getting a "T6 Ship Infinity Prize Pack" or ANY Infinity Prize Pack will be lower than trying to get it from the actual lockbox it originally dropped from. which means...
I couldn't afford the expensive stuff before, so that isn't going to change. But it does lessen my desire to attempt to farm the EC to GET those items now if indeed the prices head upwards of where they are now.
Oh well, I'll just look at it as enjoying my "new" inventory space and consider it a win.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.

This actually seems very well conceived and executed. Now I'm going to be sorely tempted to gamble again, curse you all!
In order to help ensure that this massive number of prizes doesn’t place your desired prize too far out of reach, we are introducing an element of choice into the Infinity Lock Box. Most prize entries will reward the key-user with an Infinity Prize Pack for whichever prize entry they won. Infinity Prize Packs are bound to the person that won them, but offer an unrestricted choice as to which item they wish to have won. Once that choice is made, the item(s) rewarded will be unbound, and can be freely traded/sold/gifted to other players.
EXAMPLE:
You may win an item named “Infinity Prize Pack: T6 Starship” which will be bound to the character that won it. Upon using/activating this package, you will be presented with a choice that includes all previously offered T6 Starships: Benthan Assault Cruiser, Vaadwaur Manasa Assault Escort, Krenim Imperium Warship, etc.
Choosing any of those entries will reward you with a packed-up version of the chosen ship, which can then be kept and opened for yourself, or freely traded/sold/gifted to other players.
So, does this mean if we win...
a Bridge Officer Training Manual we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim a Kemocite-Laced Weaponry I specifically?
a Weapon Pack we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim an Elachi Disruptor?
(Also, will the resulting pack start at Rare Mk II/Very Rare Mk IV of pure randomness like older variant weapons, or be updated to start at Very Rare Mk II with a choice of Beam/Cannon/Ground like more recent offerings?)
a Console we can use the associated Infinity Prize Pack to claim a Plasmonic Leech?
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

I don't see how it'll change anything. It says you're given a choice. If you land a “Infinity Prize Pack: Consoles” then you can basically choose any of the consoles that come from a lockbox. The choice is bound, but after you choose it becomes unbound and freely tradable. The odds of landing a leech hasn't changed.
Wow...
Things are really going to get expensive now...
To be fair, most of the items are out of the league of everyone but the space rich, anyway.
I think Cryptic should just do away with the single lockbox, and just add any new items to the infinity box.
Seriously? Why delete them? They sell pretty good on the exchange. Hopefully this new infinity box will hold up in the prices. I always stock up during the reruns and sell boxes when I need quick cash. Some of them sell for 500k per stack.

Agreed with this. Once my decide to sell off/use my stock of old boxes, having a single item will be very handy.
Hmmm, not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Thinking along the same lines as you that the odds for the ship picks are going to be very very low.
Trendy, one thing I'd like to suggest is that the prize picking items be account bound and not character bound. I have an account bank FILLED with prize packs and share them amoung all my characters. It would be nice to be able to store the prize picking items in there as well. Once I use up all the prize packs, storing the picker items would be great alternative to picking one and then storing it. Also, why were the frames, single duty officers, and DO assignments weren't put into there own pickers too?

I think the objective here is that you pick the particular "Prize" you want by opening the box for whatever toon, then just transfer the actual prize from the original receiving toon to the one you want to have it.
I don't think They want people to actually transfer the "Prize Boxes" themselves.

While I don't open lock boxes this will be nice to free up some inventory. Only question I have is why not just have infinity lock boxes and be done with it. Also will the lock boxes stack regardless of their age?
This should actually drive prices down. You get to PICK your prize inside the category, so the demand and price for things like Kemo should drop sharply. Getting a ship will be like getting a lobi ship, just pick the one you want from the list.
But how many folks are actually going to pick something they already have, compared to something they don't.
That's why rare items are going to increase in price even more.
The old boxes gave you no choice, you got doubles if you wanted them or not.
Now, there's no reason to pick an item you already have, when there will be plenty of ones you don't have to choose from.

Sounds like a sensible adaptation to the proliferation of different box types. I look forward to checking back later and being educated about why this is an outrage and conclusive proof of Cryptic's evil intent.

Right, but I'd like to store the picker item hold it indefinitely in the account bank until I need something. If they stay character bound then I'd have to either store it on a character until another character needs something or pick something at random and then store it away in the account bank and hope I made the right choice. I'm thinking the reason why they made them bound is to keep people from selling the picker on the exchange so account binding them won't change that. Same reason why they've made most character bound items into account bind.
interesting... Depending on the breadth of choice for say console or ability you might actually get me to open some boxes.

Scenerio B: Player wins a "choice of console" pack on their Feddie. Looking to become "space rich" themselves, they slap a Plas Leech on the market.
200 other players do the same. Undercutting, of course, to make sure their leech is the one that sells...

Would any of these include items such as the Tuffli or Suliban Cell Ship?
Doubtful. Those were not lockbox items but rather part of Duty Officer Pack promotions. Though I won't complain if those end up in an Infinity Lockbox too.
Overall, I welcome this new lockbox mechanic. I've got a lot of older ones cluttering up my inventory just in case I ever wanted to open them.
I do hope they (the Infinity boxes) stack higher than 20?
Less inventory clogging: Good. (EDIT: Actually, it's YAY! Finally!)
All but the "most meta" stuff disappearing from the exchange: Good for Cryptic, I guess...
"Most meta" stuff actually probably going down in price: Are you buying or selling?
"Most prize entries will reward the key-user with an Infinity Prize Pack for whichever prize entry they won. Infinity Prize Packs are bound to the person that won them"
So these prize pack are Bound therefore is you win the t6 ship it is bound, you cant sell?
But when you chose the ship that you can sell?
"Frankly, not sure why you're on a one man nerf campaign. "
This should cause a lot of fluctuations in market prices which should in theory be good. Say everyone picks the most expensive T6 ship as their prize and tries to sell it, the prices will drop right down. Then everyone will pick the next most expensive and again the market floods each time people try to pick the one they can sell for most. So in theory the prizes will vary quite a lot in value and anytime everyone tries to sell the highest prices it'll drive them down instead.
