Summer Event Tips and Tricks

rattler2rattler2 Member, Star Trek Online Moderator Posts: 58,692 Community Moderator
Ladies and Gentlemen! The Summer Event comes once again!

And so... I have decided to follow up my previous Winter Event Tips and Tricks thread with a Summer edition!

Any tips and tricks for any of the activities on Risa are welcome to be shared here for all to learn.

While I don't have a fancy map to share this time around, I do have a tip for the Floater daily to get the ship.

Instead of trying to run each course with the keyboard... switch to Shooter Mode. That way the only buttons you have to worry about are your forward movement key and maybe the Spacebar unless you need to strafe. You turn with just the mouse. This will make those tight turns you will encounter easier. I would suggest taking the opportunity to practice this trick in the days leading up to the Summer Event. That way you're ready to go on Day One.

Have fun and don't forget the sunscreen. See ya'll on Risa!

@pwlaughingtrendy @jodarkrider If either of you could sticky this for the duration of the Summer Event for easy access it would be appreciated. Bringing all the tips and tricks together in one place for the community helps everyone. ^^

While Rattlers tip will work for some of you, another that may work for others is, leave it in RPG mode, hold down both mouse buttons, and you have your full X/Y/Z axis control through mouse movement, and no need to use the move forward key.

While it is possible to do the Floater daily with the cheap floater(s) and even the rental one, save up and buy the *best* floater available in the color of your choice.

More than a vanity purchase, the control afforded to your character by the best floaters will make your daily grind MUCH easier.

This purchase will also help you with the Horga'hn hunt.

Sandcastles can be built at any time and turned in later when the event starts. Avoid the crowds and build your castle during an event you don't particularly like or between things.

There's a way to pin the emote menu so that it stays open beside the chat window. This makes the dance contest much easier, but I've forgotten how to do it.

For the hoverboard event, don't overcompensate. Just gentle nudges of your controls are good, or you could use the Shooter mode/hold mouse keys down method. That works for me.

Another thing with the hoverboards... stopping can be an issue. Let go of the throttle and jump will bring you to an immediate stop.

No one has mentioned the accolades yet?

I'm sure they're all mentioned in that big accolade thread, but I have no idea where it is.

    There's a partial list here http://sto.gamepedia.com/Accolade/Exploration_Accolade/Lohlunat_Festival
    and here http://sto.gamepedia.com/Accolade/Events#Lohlunat_Festival

(I know, I'm lazy for just referencing the Wiki, but in my own defence: it is kinda late where I am :p )

With the summer event I tend to just do the collect horgon mission on multiple toons. If you have the fast jetpacks you can get it done on three characters in relative short order.

During the dance event, switch instances until you get the female instructor, that way you can enjoy the voice acting work of our own lovely Ms Trendy!

I think that's Maria “Zeronius Rex”. I like dancing with my cuddly epohh when I get the female instructor. I'm sure any epohh's ears perk up and rejoice when they hear their Empress.

I'm sure it's been said before but in case you're new or missed out on past events and you're planning on grinding lohlunat favors for the long run, it's very much worth it to buy the best quality floaters for the Horga'hn Hunt.

To pin emotes, click on "Chat configuration" in the chat box. This'll bring up a menu with a bunch of options. One will be emotes. Click on that, and you'll see a list of emotes, with a push pin icon on the upper right. Click that to pin the emotes.
To get the fan dance emote, you have to win the dance contest on Nimbus 5(?) times. For Samba and Samba advanced, you need to talk to a dance instructor right before the dance party.
A reasonable approach for the lolnut(sp) event is to start behind the resort and go around the island counterclockwise.
The bird and monkey vendors are on the second floor of the building where the hoverboard race starts. There's also a doff vendor there. What rarity doffs you can buy depends on what island accolades you've achieved.

Go to your chat options and turn off the "emotes" channel to avoid being spammed to death by the dance contest.

Don't get too worked up about the powerboard race. Yes, the stupid flag picking ruins it but they're probably never going to fix it.

The least-effort way to do the ship mission is shooter mode + "Auto Move Forward" ('R' key by default). Just aim at the hoops with your mouse.

What currency do you need for the advanced floater? Can you buy it on the exchange?

If I remember right, the favors you collect/win from the Horga'hn hunt.
In past years they were available on the exchange, so likely this year as well.

Yes, the Lohlunat Favors are available on the Exchange. I checked last night just for the hell of it. A single Lohlunat Favor is listed at 90k EC. A stack of 999 was selling for around 9.5 million EC to 10 million EC; or basically 10K each.

There are 3 floaters that can be purchased of varying colors. They should be as follows, but I am relying on memory from last year' event.

    Normal = 50 Favors
    Enhanced = 500 Favors
    Superior = 1,000 Favors

Prices of Lohlunat Favors should start to gradually fall when the event starts.

I'd personally go, if you are farming; choose a normal (unless you buy lolnuts off the exchange)

To get 1k of favors, you'd need many multiples of rentals, having to put up with the rental for longer than you'd want (plus the horrors of it running out (and even if you buy a stack of rentals, they all run out at the same time)) - but if you get a normal, you'll get an appreciable collection time boost which will greatly boost your farming (a normal and risa tribble will let me easily do two, two and a half hunts (sometimes three if I get in the zone) in one time slot)

Then if you want, buy your higher grade...but if normal does the job, why bother?

Yes with the fastest floater it's possible to just about fit in 3 hunts in the time period if you're lucky.

I do it with the map open over half the screen so I can see the next target & plan the route perfectly, once you know the regular spawn points you'll develop a flight=path that really cuts down the time.
The east side of the island is most heavily populated with the statues so no point going round the opposite side.

Also, try it in a less popular instance because sometimes if more than one person grabs a Horg'hn then one person gets nothing even though the interact works, wasting you precious seconds.

On the other hand, consider how many extra hunts you'd have to do to break even if you spend 3,000 favors on floaters. Unless you're going to be doing a lot of favor farming, it may be better to use 50f floaters and save the rest for whatever you actually want to buy.

My personal best is 7 hunts within the 15 minute time limit. All captains must start at the "proper" position and luck is involved regarding which "hunt map" you get. One "hunt map" has way points that are closer to each other than in other map.

All nine of my captains have the superior floater.

The best way to farm favors in the Horga'hn hunt is to use the superior floater + lolnut tribble. Then you can be sure of fitting in three different chars. I farmed loads and loads last summer and still have a few loads. (Though I farmed mostly to give to family and friends who didn't have time to farm all day, every day.)

To get the Lolnut Tribble, feed any old tribble some Risian food or drink. Wait. You'll have your tribble in about an hour. Petting it boosts the floater speed of whatever floater you're using. I don't think it boosts the hoverboards, though. Or does it?

Nope. Just floater. Also during the Summer event the Tropical Tribble also has an AoE buff when used, like the Winter Tribble during the Winter Event.

Yeah don't settle on the normal. I fell into that trap the first year, and when I had enough extra last year to swing a Superior, I was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. I can fit in three runs with up to two minutes to spare on a good day, and I'm not even one of those "get it down to a science" type players. The tribble isn't strictly necessary once you've got three toons with a Superior floater but it does shave a bit off.
  • indysharkindyshark Member Posts: 1,556 Arc User
Thanks for the advice. I'll pick up one and try it out.
  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,918 Arc User
You're right about that, jexamx. I could even swing three runs in with the mid-floater (Improved, I think?) I just like to be sure to give myself plenty of time to account for little mistakes during the runs.

Mostly I run them looking for eggs, so end up with far more favors than I need, so I usually would give some out to newbies who needed them. Yes, I know I can sell them too, but it makes me feel good to gift them to people who need them.

I just bought a superior floater. It is a big improvement. I also like using the shooter mode. It's much easier to use the floater that way
