The Star Union vessels had decloked upon reaching the system, no sense in appearing hostile.

Altithia Soreth took a breath, remind reminding herself these weren't Terrans she was dealing with. She couldn't let her people down... Still she was no diplomat, she was a soldier down to the marrow of her bones, not to mention young by Romulus standards.
Funny Sela, had placed her in command of the forces when they'd crossed over to fight the Iconians, and she was worried about this?!

"System control this is the Romulan Union flagship RDW Lliset requesting permission to enter the system and assume standard orbit."

"Let's see what the Councilor has to say."

I know I keep asking this (Sorry)... Romulan Union (They're the anti Terran Empire red mirror rom faction right?)

"Ma'am, we've received a unique message from our counterparts, I think you should read this," Heath said passing a PADD to Sito.

Sito took the PADD and read it to herself "What James T Kirk did was a breach of our prime directive, he illegally interfered in what should have been considered an internal matter and caused a century of pain for the Terrans. We officially extend this official apology as an olive branch to your government."

Sito turned to give Heath a confused stare. "What is this?!"

Heath puzzled by Sito's question sat in the chair next to her. "A message from the Federation, I believe this is an attempt to end hostilities between the two universes."

Sito "An end of hostilities?" Sito looked at the PADD once more. "Triumvirate?"

      "Pardon?" Heath replied.

"Nothing," Sito smirked at the thoughts now flooding her mind. "Let's see what they're willing to do for peace. Send them a message; they're intelligence divisions are to supply us with all the information they possess concerning Admiral Leeta, the Battle of Procyon V and the Galactic Union."

'May I suggest that you add "If you are sincere, then..." To the beginning of your message. Pleasantries mean a lot to them. Plus it's hard for them to say no if you're being polite.' Heath added.

      "you may suggest." Sito responded.

"Interesting" noted Trianna as she read Sito's response to Valdez. "Did the president accept Sito's terms?" asked Heath. "I'm authorized to give Sito the good news" replied Valdez. "I'll set up a meeting, Trianna get the information Sito desires" responded Heath. "Consider it done" replied Trianna.

"I'll speak to Sito personally, Trianna will brief Sito on what we know" responded Valdez. "Dad, we need to play this carefully" pointed out Trianna and both Valdez and Heath agreed. "When negotiating peace with a bandit, always carry a big stick" said Valdez. "If Sito turns on us, the deal is off. Make sure she knows that" replied Heath. "We'll meet Sito on the station, Layress send the invitation" said Valdez.

        Antares station (Prime)

"Let me get this right," the other Heath on the screen said to her Prime counterpart. "You want her to come to the station to get the information, while you have a group of ships that are hostile to all things Terran there? When did you suffer the catastrophic brain damage, and why haven't they removed you from duty because of it?"
"You want the information or not? I don't she'll be happy if she doesn't get because of you."
"Don't play that card with me. I know much about you for that to work."
        "So what do you suggest?"
"We meet in neutral territory. At the breach in the Badlands. One ship each. When we're both satisfied the other isn't trying something, then we'll meet face to face."
"Alright. We'll bring the Los Lobos over soon."
"Good. I miss the old girl. We'll be at the breach in twelve hours."

Sito waited for Heath to finish. "We don't have time to play with the Federation, nor do I want to waste time on diplomacy."

"Do you want me to go?" Heath asked.

"No. I want you here with me. Dispatch an inquisitor to the Badlands to collect this information."

"What if they refuse to part with the information?"

"Then I know they're wasting our time."

"Layress, I'll defer to your judgment on this" said Valdez. Heath understood Valdez's faith in her, "Sir, What happens if Papela is there with Sito?" she asked. "We'll be civil but Papela cannot be forgiven for what she did" replied Valdez. "Understandable" replied Heath. "We'll need our Papela at the meeting" responded Valdez.

"Dad, what about Soreth and her Romulan Star Union?" asked Trianna, "Soreth has been briefed on these talks, she has promised to pull her ships out of the system and awaits the results of the talks" replied Valdez. "What do we tell Sito?" asked Heath. Valdez thought about this and answered "tell Sito we have a common enemy, Leeta. She'll know the proverb the enemy of my enemy is also my friend."

"Sir, I'll need you on Los Lobos, Trianna you will act as liaison between Starfleet and the Federation council" said Heath. "Yes ma'am" replied Trianna.

The Valdez family were sat around the camp fire. "Girls, you two have had it good growing up. I never had that" said Valdez, the twins paid attention. "Dad, we're at the right age to understand" replied Marie to which Trianna agreed and asked "could you tell us how tough you had it." Valdez told the twins everything, "girls, my parents were killed in front of me at age 12. I was lucky to be smuggled off Terra and ended up being adopted by a Betazoid couple. Marie you can understand what it's like losing both parents."

"Dad, I understand. Trianna has never known loss like that" said Marie, Teanna added "it took years for your father to face his past in telling you all this." The twins asked "what were your adoptive family like?" Valdez answered "they were good with me, they adopted a messed up kid and decided to turn my life around. My adoptive brother Iblim taught me to come to terms with what happened."

"How did you and mom meet?" asked Trianna, Teanna answered Trianna's question with "Me and your father fought alongside each other during the Battle of Betazed, we formed a bond and ended up getting married after we found out I was carrying you, it was the honorable thing in your father's view." The twins took a while for it to sink in, "Dad, we promise to be on our best behavior from now on" said Trianna and Marie added "We will control our tempers and work with Doctor Lot in sorting out our violent impulses."

"From now on, we work as a family and fight as a family, agreed?" asked Valdez, Teanna got four bottles of beer and passed them around. "To family" toasted Trianna and everyone settled down and relaxed.

            Military Log: I.S.S. Enterprise

"We've completed our scans of the anomaly in the Bajor System, so far everything is proceeding as expected. In 2372 two officers, from the Federation universe, Lieutenant Julian Bashir and a Bajoran called Kira were able to use the anomaly to cross between the two realms.

We've been probing this anomaly for three days now; the crew is unaware of our true mission, they believe the probes were firing into the anomaly are emerging on the far side of the galaxy. What they don't know are these probes have been reconfigured to generate the same experience created over 50 years ago. If successful, I can use this anomaly as a doorway back to my universe.

In regards to this crossover scheme, there has been an increase in reports of vessels aligned to the Romulan Union appearing in the parallel universe, I doubt they're using the Badlands as a crossover point, for the meantime, their means of crossing over remains unknown. The Romulan Aristocracy are leading up the investigating, and I'm eager to read the reports.

Naynta Lot ... Doctor Lot ... the one from the Federation universe has been working with Mr. Valdez's daughters, and I'm pleased to hear they have been placated into her way of thinking. She's also been working with her counterpart, my sister, the two of them have been getting along, perhaps a bit too well. Admiral ... Lieutenant Lot ... I will erase her memories of the torture she's been subjected to here on the Enterprise, and have her returned to the Los Lobos with her prior rank of Captain.

Additional: Due to their abilities and initiative, I'll be speaking to Captain Heath later about promoting her Aunlel and mine, The pair has created new battle maneuvers I'm eager to try out.

            Eng log."

The Terran ship came through the rift, "Captain Heath, my superior is somewhat occupied. Fleet Admiral Sito requests the information be transferred to my vessel" requested the inquisitor. Councilor Valdez asked the inquisitor, you are getting this on good faith it will not be used against us, you agree to those terms?" "Acceptable" replied the Inquisitor. Valdez also sent the inquisitor Captain Sisko's logs concerning his help defending Terok Nor from the Alliance in 2372.

"My superior will be in contact, you police your side and we'll police our side of the Neutral Zone" said the Inquisitor and the screen went blank. "Lets wait and see what Sito does with the information" said Trianna.

The twins were back in training with Heath. "Ma'am" chorused the twins and both saluted. Heath had noticed the change since the twins had got back. "Zero violent incidents so far, keep it up" said Heath, the twins smiled and Heath noticed them both wearing leather necklaces with shark teeth. "We'll remove them ma'am" chorused the twins but Heath told them keep them on when on duty.

"They come from a 12 foot Trillian Tiger Shark, Trianna battled it for three hours, we'll pulled it in as a family" said Marie. "I'm expressing my feelings through painting" added Trianna and Marie said "I've taken up fishing." "It's the orphan and the mongrel" thought Naynta but Trianna picked it up and took no action, "not worth the effort" said Marie to which Trianna added "let's be the better people and not play her game."

Heath was surprised at the twin's reaction to being insulted, "it takes a lot to be the better person, both of you remember that" said Heath. "Yes ma'am" chorused the twins.

"I had her brought up here to test you and you didn't take the bait," Heath said indicating Naynta with her head. "Very well. I'm putting you both on probation for six months."
              "What?"
              "Why?"
"After six months," Heath continued as if she hadn't heard their outburst. "If there have been no incidents, then I will accept your transferring to the Enterprise to serve under me."
Their eyes went wide and mouths hung open.
"But, If there is even one hint of trouble from either of you two in that time, then the deal is off. Understand?"
"Yes ma'am!" they chorused. "Thank you ma'am! We won't disappoint you ma'am!"
"We will see. now for your next assignment. In our next simulation you will each be given command of the Enterprise." Heath smiled. "You goal is to defeat the other one. You will be judged on damage inflicted, damage received, and how much of your crew you lose. In combat one must learn to accept victory and defeat with equal grace. You have until 0800 tomorrow to prepare. Dismissed."
              They saluted and left.
"You're setting them up to fail," Naynta laughed.
"I consider it the ultimate test of their control," Heath countered. "No one can make you angrier than family. You'd know about that wouldn't you?"
"Laugh while you can Bajoran. When The Regent finds out about..."
"She won't find out about anything. And you certainly won't be telling her."
              "What do you mean?"
"You're being given back command of the Los Lobos. All of your 'toys' have been released. Though I'm sure you'll find some new ones soon."
"And how does that stop me from telling her?"
"You can't tell her what you won't remember."
              "What?"
"You are to angry to survive at this point. You either have to forget or die."
              "You wouldn't dare! the Regent..."
"Would punish me, not Sito. That is acceptable. So, what will it be?"
Naynta looked Heath in the eyes, then smiled.
"You have potential fedrat. Had my Heath been like you, I might not have had to take over. Lets get this over with. I want my ship back."

Admiral Valdez was in the family quarters studying tactical reports. "All things normal and quiet" he noted as the twins walked in. "Dad, Heath has given us a task tomorrow" said Trianna, Marie added "we have to defeat each other, it's like we're being set up to fail." Valdez replied "maybe it's a test of control, I can see what Heath is doing."

"Girls, don't let emotions get in your way. You two need to be level headed and clear thinking, show Heath you can take control and keep it" said Teanna. "Yes mom" chorused the twins and they went to study separately, Marie went to study with Solat and Trianna studied with her father.

"What ever happens tomorrow, just do your best" said Valdez. "Thanks dad" replied Trianna. "Cadet, you are fighting yourself so your opponent will know you better than you know yourself" said Solat. "Then I will listen to your teachings" said Marie.

"Trianna, Heath has a proposal for you" said Councilor Valdez. "Dad, what is it?" asked Trianna, Heath answered Trianna's question with "I'm offering you a posting on the Los Lobos, somewhere you can flourish and have a fresh start." Trianna was quiet for a moment, "I don't know what to say" she said. "What about yes?" asked Heath. Valdez smiled and gave her some advice, "Trianna, Captain Heath is presenting an opportunity for you to have a fresh start. There will be days you have to fight your own battles because I cannot always help you."

"Captain Heath, dad is right I'll accept your offer" said Trianna. "Welcome to the wolves" replied Heath.

                R.D.W. Lliset, Bajor Sector (Prime),

Soreth was furious. "They gave the Empire what?!" She ranted as the automated systems in the womens-armory finished removing her armor, leaving a cold gelatinous substance covering her exposed skin.... Unfortunately RDF battle armor needed the foul smelling slime to better integrate biological and mechanical systems- like reflexes and medical nanites. "They're giving the Empire the keys to their destruction, why? They can't be taking anything the say seriously can they?"

"I'm not from the Federation mam, I have no idea what they expect." A Centurion stated.

"They don't have our experiences with Terrans in this regard," Altithia Soreth sighed. "'Are the Terrans even capable of understanding peace? I think not', I head Hakeev say once.... That's been our peoples history during their time hasn't it?"

Soreth had to admit, her people had effectively always considered themselves at a state of cold war with the Empire- just waiting for them to attack, or give reason for a preemptive strike... Always it seemed they'd be sitting at the boarder cloaked, patrolling. When she'd learned of the Union's destruction at the hand of Terrans from the distant future they'd her people had thought maybe for once they could have a true Renaissance- a rediscovery... Then a few short months after the conflict the Empire had to slither out of the Badlands into this new Universe.

Her people had had a chance.. a Chance for true peace for a few short weeks! Terra would never allow them a respite would they?

"High Protector... What do you think the biggest difference is between Terrans and Humans?"

That was a good question.. Philospihy? World view? Something more meaningful?

Soreth was silent for a moment as she grabbed a towel. "I think I need to answer with question: If the Federation sees another advanced civilization they see a learning opportunity. Others outside the power wishing to get in- perhaps they see that alliance as a golden city on a hill- a higher state, something to truly aspire to. The Terrans though- they're barbarism incarnate to countless worlds. I think they would see a more advanced species and want to take all it had for themselves only to destroy what it was they sought to obtain. No I think deep down Terrans know at some level that the golden city they want to see can never be reached through violence... That is why I think they truly hate the Federation, because they know they've discovered their betters in ever meaningful way."

She was met only by silence.

Back in her quarters Soreth continued that line of thought.... There was some small part of her that pitied Terrans. Had their history been one of dictators? Had they never had a chance to know what peace and freedom were? Had generations of conflict and hostility been burned into their race that it couldn't be removed away and so it continued to eat at them like a poison? Yes... Some how she felt sorry for them- her enemy. The enemy you'd be a fool to think wanted lasting peace with you.

She looked at her newest message and smiled- be always vigilant her mentor had said.
"Terran vessel boarded peacefully... Will remain asleep until Imperial agression begins."

"Well done Founder... May the shadows guard you" she whispered to herself.

Trianna had just finished unpacking her things when she heard a chime at the door. "Come in" she said, Captain Heath entered and said "just checking on the latest member of the wolves." Trianna was unsure of what to say but Heath understood Trianna was still hurting deep down. "Your mother?" asked Heath looking at a photo of Teanna.

"I miss mom's guidance, some days it hurts more. The young lady next to her was my life partner, dad has tried to keep me occupied with work but every time I try to sleep I wake up in cold sweats. That day keeps giving me nightmares" Trianna answered. "I promised your father I'd keep an eye on you and I will hold that promise, don't suffer in silence" replied Heath. "First time away from family, dad has his work to do and I have mine" answered Trianna.

"I cannot understand what you endured and I suspect I never will. Losing a leg at 19 years old in combat and your ordeal at the hands of the Terran Empire, that would destroy a person but you survived. Take heart in that" advised Heath. "Dad never recovered from it, he was tortured day after day by the Regent and it broke him to the point he retired when we got back and will never wear the Starfleet uniform again" replied Trianna.

Heath noticed tears and put her hand on Trianna's shoulder. She advised Trianna "take strength from your experience and don't dwell on the past. The moment you give into dispair you have lost, be strong for your mother " Trianna wiped the tears from her eyes and decided she would go and get counseling for her grief. "This is for my mother and my life partner, I will make them proud" said Trianna. "I know you will, come with me and I'll introduce you to the crew" said Heath smiling and both officer left the room.

Councilor Valdez meanwhile was talking with Soreth, "are you concerned the empire will use that information against you?" asked Soreth. "That's why an Alliance fleet has been placed at DS9 to cover the wormhole just in case the Terrans decide to attack and our forces at Antares have been strengthened. The Romulan Republic has offered your people the Brea system as a place for you to rebuild your civilization, you'll get Federation support and humanitarian aid to help with the rebuilding process and a place in the Alliance once you feel ready to accept. Think of it as a fresh start for you and your people, you need not live in fear and paranoia of Terran aggression" answered Valdez.

"I'll think this over, you'll get my decision within the hour Soreth out" replied Soreth and the screen went blank.

"Yes mom" chorused the twins and both parents smiled. "You both nervous?" asked Valdez to which the twins nodded and replied "slightly." "Good, you both have a lot to prove. Just do your best, that's all we ask of you" advised Valdez.

"We will" chorused the twins smiling. "Remember you are both out to prove to Captain Heath and Fleet Admiral Sito that you two can govern your emotions" said Valdez, Teanna added her input with "two different trains of study, accept victory and defeat equally and honorably." The twins saw the time, it was 0740 hours and they left for the Enterprise. On the Enterprise Heath met the twins in the transporter room.

"Morning cadets, I want to see creativity from you two and control" said Heath. "He he" chuckled Trianna to which Marie added "should be interesting." Heath smiled and advised them to keep things civil. "Oh we will but at the same time a bit of sibling competition" said Marie, Trianna smiled and replied "challenge accepted." "What did you parents say about this?" asked Heath. "Mom told us to govern our emotions and dad told us to do our best" answered Trianna to which Marie added "regardless of result."

Heath had noticed a change in the twins and smiled. "Maybe there is potential with these two" she noted to herself.

Sito, passing Captain Heath and the Valdez twins in the corridor pulled Heath aside. "Heath, a moment."

Heath and Sito turned their backs on the twins, preventing them from hearing their voices. "If you really think they're officer material, then you're to show them no support. Run your battle drills, but I want you to add a little twist to it."

"Ma'am?" Heath asked looking confused pondering what Sito meant.

"Anger them, prod them, push them over the edge, then once one of them believes they're near victory, have an enemy squadron join the scenario and attack who you believe to be the weaker of the two. Do not concern yourself with them being out-fought, worry about them being out-thought."

                    I.S.S. Enterprise

The twins were set up on two holodecks, Heath and Sito were watching the feeds. Both twins were making last minute adjustments to their battle plans. "You both ready, simulation will begin now" said Heath. Trianna decided to feign weakness to draw Marie in. "Bring our ventral side to the enemy, let them come in close then we launch our fighter sand shuttles to flank around them" ordered Trianna.

The "Enterprise" rototed to to it ventral side and Trianna cut power to only the essentials. Marie saw Trianna's move and though "that's a mistake." Marie's "Enterprise closed to 1000m and Trianna put on full power and launched her fighters to wrap around Marie's "Enterprise." Marie fired her weapons into the ventral armour and soon Trianna had Marie in her trap. "Point defense systems keep those fighters off us and move us onto their six" ordered Trianna. Marie countered with a direct hit onto Trianna port nacelle.

Trianna noted the damage and remaining calm ordered "target their deflector and fire." She scored a direct hit but Trianna thinking two steps ahead countered with a bridge hit. "Hostile squadron jumping out of warp" reported both twin's ops officers and the twins not losing their temper just turned their guns away from each other and attacked the squadron. "No party crashers" joked Trianna and both twins fought off the squadron before finishing their duel.

It ended in draw with both "Enterprises" crippled and with only life support left. "Simulations over" said Heath over the intercom. "That was unexpected" noted Sito to Heath and Heath agreed.

                      I.S.S. Enterprise mess hall

The twins were sat down having dinner, "Cadets mind if I join you?" asked Captain Heath. The twins just said "pull up a seat" and Heath sat down to talk with the twins. "You were both prodded and provoked and you two still kept your cool. Trianna interesting tactics. Marie, excellent shot placement but what impressed me most was how you both worked together in dealing with that squadron. That was meant to make you both angry but you made it back fire on us by being unpredictable" said Heath.

"We fought as a family, something mom and dad taught us" said Trianna and Heath smiled. "It's going to get harder now, Kobayoshi Maru at 0800 tomorrow, you've got until tomorrow to prepare" said Heath.

                      U.S.S. Los Lobos

"Trianna, come with us, I'll introduce you to some friends of mine" said Doctor Lot and Trianna walked into the mess hall with her. "Trianna meet Tamiko and Sydem" said Naynta and Trianna said "pleasure to meet you." Tamiko and Sydem decided to initiate Trianna into the wolves. "Trianna what do you drink?" asked Tamiko to which Trianna answered "beer." "Strongest one" said Sydem and Naynta passed over the glass to Trianna.

"Cheers ladies" said Naynta and they all started their impromptu drinking contest. Trianna necked back beer after beer until in the end it was down to her and Naynta. "For an admiral's daughter you can hold your drink" said Naynta as she passed out. Heath walked in and just smiled. "The newest member of the wolves is fitting in just fine" she noted to herself.

Heath then jabbed all four officers with hyposprays to bring them to. "At least we won't feel rough tomorrow joked Naynta and Naynta, Tamiko and Sydem accepted Trianna into their social circle. "Welcome to the wolves said Tamiko and Trianna smiled and said "I'm honored to accept." Heath just smiled, "ladies, you are all on duty at 0600. Get some rest and I will see you at 0600" said Heath.

Soreth finished going over the information on the Brea system in this reality. "Councilor, I believe there's a large number of my people who would welcome to opportunity to rebuild on a planet they knew as home." She continued smiling. "Our development of Rathilious in the Levtro system is far ahead of schedule. This option of re-starting again isn't a decision I can force upon my people- especially the civilian population. However I must add that due to the nature of Vanguard station- it's primary purpose being to act as a an Ark... It will be remaining where it is."

"Has the Federation or Republic agreed on a permissible size of a defense fleet? I'm told the area has occasional Borg, Orion, and ..... Tholian problems... Given their history of stealing my peopels ships, and what they did to the Naukul you understand my concern. I will admit it is time I request a meeting with D'Tan."

"I've spoken with the Alliance governments and we've all agreed to provide an Alliance military force to protect Vanguard Station. D'Tan has pledged support from the Romulan Republic, the Federation and Klingon Empire have also pledged support for your people as well" reported Valdez. "We accept your Alliance's aid, we will provide military support to your fleets with Vanguard Station as a base of operations" replied Soreth.

"This could be the start of a strong Alliance, with your permission could our scientists work with your people on Omega Particle research?" asked Valdez. "Councilor, your people value co-operation over conquest. Your scientists have permission to work with ours" answered Soreth. "Agreed co-operation with your people will increase our knowledge both ways" replied Valdez. "Then we have an agreement councilor" responded Soreth. "D'Tan is a man of peace, he has agreed to meet you on New Romulus in 48 hours" replied Valdez.

"Thank you Councilor, any chance to work with our Romulan and Reman brothers and sisters is a golden opportunity for our people to find a new start" responded Soreth. "Agreed, once your people are ready you'll get a seat on the Alliance council and your fleets can work with ours" replied Valdez. "We'll provide ships to your forces covering the wormhole and you'll get a wing of battleships at Antares Soreth out" replied Soreth and the screen went blank.

"One hell of an olive branch, what did you do to earn their trust?" asked Heath looking at the report on Vanguard station. "In 2390 one of their leaders had been captured by the Terrans, I led a rescue and recover raid to spring her before the Terrans could interrogate her. I also helped them defeat a highly skilled Terran admiral in a series of bloody battles and skirmishes at their request"

"They will only deal with you, Soreth's concern for the people who choose to resettle on Brea III will be our concern. I put in a report to command and they've agreed to keep a fleet at Brea to protect the Romulan Union civilians" replied Heath. "They gave us permission for our scientists to work with their on Omega research as well, this will share knowledge between between our peoples" responded Valdez.

"When Soreth found out the Alliance was stationing a fleet at Brea she smiled, she knows we share her ideals on co-operation" replied Heath. "Well lets wait and see until after she's spoken to D'Tan" responded Valdez. "You may have just gained us an ally" replied Heath smiling. "How's Trianna settling in?" asked Valdez, Heath smiled and answered "Naynta, Tamiko and Sydem initiated her into the wolves with a test of skill."

"What happened?" asked Valdez smiling, Heath answered his question with "drinking contest, Trianna won after Naynta passed out." Valdez smiled in approval, "in fact, Trianna is fitting in fine. My Assistant Engineer Alex Frost joked about taking cover when Trianna walked into engineering, she saw the funny side of it and is showing an interest in him in a sisterly way" answered Heath. Trianna walked in and said "dad, I got a tattoo on my arm" as she rolled her sleeve up and showed Valdez a wolf's head tattoo on her right arm.

"I approve but next time just check in before you do something like that" said Valdez smiling. "Will do dad" replied Trianna, Heath smiled. "I see you are moving on with your life, teach Mr Frost patience and be like a mentor to him" said Valdez. "Dad? I may be wiser but I'll get to know my new crew mates and try an be like an older sister to the younger and less mature crew members" asked Trianna smiling to which Valdez answered "of course, be your own person and find that happiness in your life in helping others."

"Well Miss Valdez, we've got to get back on duty" said Heath and Trianna hugged her father. "Make me proud Trianna" said Valdez smiling to which Trianna replied "will do." "Trianna, Mr Frost is thankful you are not crazy" said Heath laughing. "He gave me a nickname, Tri" replied Trianna. "He likes you then, it's his way but he's Tamiko's" responded Heath. "Sisterly role only" said Trianna smiling.

The twins were called to the holodeck. "Girls, listen and pay attention" said Admiral Valdez. "What is the nature of this practice run?" asked Trianna to which Valdez answered "there may be a time you will face a no win situation, in war nothing is definite. Your practice here will be a test of control and composure." "Yes dad" chorused the twins. "This is a test that all cadets must face alone with no help" replied Valdez.

"You and Heath are setting us up to fail" said Marie to which Valdez simply replied "it's done as a test of control, any mistakes you both make here you will not repeat tomorrow understood?" "Yes dad" chorused the twins and Valdez started the simulation and left the holodeck.

After three attempts the twins reported back to Valdez. "I was watching your performances, Trianna you came close to that temper flaring up, you cannot do that in a high stress situation." said Valdez. Trianna agreed that she nearly blew her chance and resolved to keep her temper in check next time. Valdez and the twins walked into the mess hall and found it was virtually empty with only Lt Wildman leaving in a hurry.

Then there was an almighty explosion which threw Valdez and the twins out into the corridor. Valdez picked himself up and checked on the twins, "I'm ok" said Trianna but when they looked at Marie they were horrified at the result. Marie was drifting in and out of consciousness with her left leg hanging off her body. "Medical team to the mess hall" ordered Valdez. Valdez and Trianna went with the team as Marie was brought in by stretcher and put in intensive care.

Teanna took one look at Marie and made her decision, there was no saving Marie's left leg and prepared for the procedure. "Valdez to Enterprise, Captain Heath there has been an incident I suggest you get over here and fast" he said very distressed. "Sir you are fine other than a few cuts and burns, Trianna let's take a look at that head wound" said the orderly. "Nathan, over here. I need you to assist" said Teanna. Valdez asked if Marie could be sedated but Teanna said "not possible, if she loses consciousness it will kill her."

Valdez removed his belt and told Marie to bite onto the belt. "Grab hold of my hand and and squeeze, this will be painful but you must fight the pain" said Valdez and Marie grabbed and held onto his hand. Heath arrived to see Marie's leg being amputated with her father supporting her all the way. "What happened?" asked Heath shocked, Trianna answered "someone tried to kill dad but they missed and now I don't know if my sister will make it or not" trying to contain her anger.

"Trianna, I know you want to find whoever did this and hurt them but revenge will solve nothing" advised Heath. "Tell that to dad, he's supporting Marie" said Trianna with mixed emotions. "Admiral, my people can investigate, you are in no fit state at this moment" said Heath concerned. "Heath, I suggest your people start with Lt Wildman, he was the last person in the mess hall and he left in a hurry. I see that as suspicious behavior" said Valdez trying not to lose control.

"Admiral, Marie needs her family now more than ever, be with her" said Heath. Trianna rolled up her sleeve and offered to donate some of her blood to her sister. Teanna had an orderly get an transfusion kit and Trianna donated a sample which was then synthesized and administered to Marie as Teanna cleaned and cauterized the wound. "I'll keep her in for a week to keep an eye on her" said Teanna. "I'll have a 24 hour guard attached here to protect her from any attempts to finish her" said Valdez.

                              I.S.S. Agincourt

Admiral Valdez had been keeping a bedside vigil with Marie for three days when Heath walked in and asked "how is Marie?" Valdez still depressed replied "not out of the woods yet." Heath sat down and told Valdez that he had to stay strong now more than ever. Valdez was not going to let whoever did this get away with it. "Trianna, work with Paris. Lt Paris, you will have the full support and resources you require" said Valdez and both Trianna and Paris noded in agreement.

Meanwhile Lt Wildman had been arrested and brought to the Enterprise for questioning. Teanna and Heath interrogated Wildman with no respite. "You were seen leaving before the blast, who set the explosives?" asked Heath to which Wildman replied "why would I tell you Fedrat." Teanna looked at Heath and whispered "he's hiding something." Heath changed tactics and said "if that young woman dies you die. If she survives, I will make your life a living hell."

"Who's going to miss a mongrel orphan?" answered Wildman laughing at the distress Marie was in. Teanna just glared at him with the look of she wanted to hurt him but Heath calmed her down. In the Agincourt's mess hall Trianna and Paris examined the crime scene looking for the slightest shred of evidence. "Judging by the angle of the blast it must have come from the replicator here" said Paris and Trianna had a tech team check the replicator.

They found what they were looking for, the replicator had been altered to explode when the targets had entered the room. "Paris to Heath, source of the explosion found. The replicator closest to the door has been altered" Paris reported. Wildman heard all this and began to sweat. "Got you" said Teanna as she grabbed him and pinned him against the wall. "That young woman who's life you ruined, the good doctor here is her mother" said Heath as both Trianna and Paris handed over the evidence they had discovered.

"Now what was the motive?" asked Trianna as she sized up what to break first. "The admiral is a traitor for preferring Betazoid witches over his own species, he had to die" answered Wildman and Teanna let go and threw him to the floor, she replied "I'm not the one you should be afraid of, thank you for your honesty" as Wildman was subjected to a beating at Trianna's hand. "You hurt my sister, that makes this personal" said Trianna as she beat him to a bloody pulp. "Trianna, cripple him" said Teanna and Trianna made sure Wildman would never walk again.

Teanna got a call from Valdez with an update on Marie, she has woken up and was sitting up in bed. "Mom, tell Trianna I'm alright and tell her to make Mr Wildman suffer" said Marie over the channel, Teanna and Heath heard her crying at the loss of her left leg. "Marie, what happens if you are knocked down?" asked Teanna over the channel, Marie answered "you pick yourself back up." Valdez asked for an update on Wildman and Heath answered "we got a full confession, Trianna is delivering some justice on Wildman." "Give Wildman to Naynta, she can have a new toy" said Valdez over the channel, Naynta smiled and said "thank you admiral" over the channel.

"Ma'am, I still want to carry on with my training" said Trianna to Heath and Heath replied "I will personally train you myself."

Trianna had been called down to engineering to fix a computer fault, "Tri, our engineering computer grid is acting up again" reported Frost. "I'll take a look" replied Trianna and she got the bag of tricks ready. "Mr Frost what is this?" asked Trianna looking at the clutter on the grid. "My entertainment when I get bored" replied Frost. Trianna just gave the look of disapproval and told him straight, "Mr Frost these computers are not here for your entertainment, some of this is not exactly suitable is it?" she asked in a stern voice.

"No ma'am" answered Frost. "If I was to tell Tamiko or the captain of this, you would be in trouble. Next time be careful" replied Trianna as she purged the waste files. "Will do, you would faint at Cmdr R'Shee's collection" Frost joked. "I don't want to know" groaned Trianna. Trianna then left engineering and met up with Tamiko and Naynta. "I see you discovered Frost's little collection of contraband programmes" said Naynta laughing to which Tamiko said "I'm going to make him wish that collection was not discovered, thanks Trianna" said Tamiko smiling.

"Why's Thyl running towards the bridge?" asked Trianna with a bemused look on her face. "Has the captain set the self destruct again to get him to leave engineering?" asked Tamiko to which Naynta replied "Yes the captain has" laughing. "Self destruct?" asked Trianna with a shocked expression. "Thyl put up a shield around engineering to keep us crazy women out, his words not ours" said Tamiko. "The captain has a sense of humor" replied Naynta. "I see" said Trianna as all three ladies heard an "OW!!" as Paris ran knee first into Trianna's prosthetic leg.

"That's called not paying attention to surroundings" said Trianna. "What is that leg made of? Solid neutronium" complained Paris, Tamiko asked Trianna to show her the leg and Trianna obliged. "Dad kept telling me not leave the spare leg lying around" said Trianna laughing. "Wait, you are Councilor Valdez's daughter aren't you?" asked Naynta. "Yes, I'm the reason dad is getting grey hair, it started when I nearly got expelled from the academy" answered Trianna laughing.

"What did you do?" asked Tamiko. Trianna answered Tamiko's question with "I broke into the Academy commandant's computer with nothing but a PADD because I got bored." Naynta and Tamiko just laughed and asked "does the captain know?" "Dad told her" answered Trianna smiling. "We're going to get along just fine, you are our kind of crazy" said Tamiko smiling. "Should we tell Trianna about the nanoprobe tribbles?" asked Naynta and Tamiko nodded. "Nanoprobe tribbles?" asked Trianna.

"We had a tribble infestation a while back so we tried to use Borg nanoprobes to deal with them, turns we nearly assimilated the ship and some of the tribbles exploded" replied Naynta. "Took weeks to get the fur out of the bulkheads" added Tamiko laughing. "You are all mental" joked Trianna to which Naynta replied "guilty as charged."

Renegade is the way to go on Mass Effect, I'm a ends justify the means type.

Admiral Valdez taken taken time off to assist Marie in her recovery, Trianna had taken time off from her studying to help her sister. Valdez had brought in a chess board to keep Marie's mind occupied. "Marie, you want a game?" asked Valdez and Marie accepted, "You know I defeated and broke your Federation counterpart right?" asked Marie smiling. "I know" answered Valdez smiling.

"Mom, I want to know how dad keeps his cool. I've got two months to sort my temper, Captain Heath put me and Marie on probation so we have to watch our tempers" asked Trianna. "I know, Captain Heath told me and I agree with her" answered Teanna. "It's a new perspective, what happened to Marie changed how I view the world and myself. I've got to be more like dad on anger management" replied Trianna.

"Solat to Valdez, Our new MACOs have arrived from Betazed. Their commander said something about time to reunite the brothers" said Solat over the channel, "bring him to sickbay" replied Valdez. Solat entered sickbay with General Iblim Wray and Iblim shook his brother's hand. "Little brother, what are these?" asked Iblim sarcastically looking at Valdez's admiral's pips to which Valdez answered "back at you" seeing the general's stars.

"Teanna, hows my favorite sister in law?" asked Iblim and Teanna smiled and answered "the usual family craziness." Iblim smiled, "Teanna, that's normality" he replied. Trianna stood to attention and saluted as Marie sat up and saluted their uncle. "At ease girls" said Iblim and the twins obeyed. "Uncle Iblim" said Trianna and Iblim hugged her. "I heard about what happened, how's your sister doing?" asked Iblim and Trianna answered "she's struggling to cope. She will never be the same again." "Be strong for your sister" advised Iblim.

Iblim then sat down and talked to Marie. "What can I do? My life is ruined" said Marie depressed. "No it's not Marie, your father will tell you the same thing. You got knocked down but life carries on and you pick yourself back up stronger for it" advised Iblim to his niece. "Mom and dad taught us that lesson, they taught that if you get knocked down you pick yourself back up" added Valdez.

"I'm going to start work on a project in my workshop" said Trianna hold a PADD. "What are you working on?" asked Valdez. Trianna answered "a new leg for my sister." Both Valdez and Iblim smiled and agreed. "This is what makes our family strong" said Iblim and Valdez added "indeed."
