but the vengeance is from the time period TOS took place in, so any mirror version of it would still have yellow markings
and i think the red was a VERY recent development in-universe - likely around the same time mirror leeta was possessed by a pah-wraith...which are ironically ALSO represented by the color red since they're all about fire and stuff
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"

A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

I just sort of assumed they'd be getting it about the same time and for largely the same reason as we have - pillaging neighboring realities from here in the present .
I like the Enterprise pic - they added racing stripes and CLEARY it goes faster because of it .
But Yellow for "Imperial Loyalists" might make for handy color coding if we do get a dedicated Mirror arc.
i just prefer the yellow coloring because the red = aggressive trope is even more overused than black is evil/wicked/bad/etc.
although...i just had a thought; so far, all the terran ships we've seen are from leeta's fleet...whatever cryptic's reasoning for changing from yellow to red, in-universe, it might just be HER ships that have that coloring and other terran fleets might have different colored markings

Oh, wanted to add I've just equipped the Elite/Fleet Drones... Dear lord, those things are a pack of rampaging piranhas. Smaller ships VANISH without even a scream.

Hell yes to this!
I added the Elite Kelvin Drones on my ship and was very pleasantly surprised. They're hands down my favorite pets in the game, right up there with Elite Romulan Drones which I also LOVE. They can be a little squishy.. which is fine, they're fighters, but they can actually dish some damage. They also tend to stay with me better then any other pet that I have (though they still ignore the dock command just like everything.)
This thing is the Fed answer to the Scimitar in every way, right down to unique and fantastic hangar pets.
On another note, I tweaked the look again. The white was cool, it made it look like a large fed ship, but in the end, White just doesn't fit this monster. I went back to the Dreadnought pattern, used the Aegis Deflector and shield for highlights and that splash of blue. I ended up turning on the Visual effect on my Iconian impulse engines because the red fits the ship and matches the red on the underside of the hull. I need to grab some images to update my sig pretty soon.
I love everything about this ship, best 300M I have ever spent in STO hands down. I'm actually kind of glad I can't unlock it for my account because every captain I have would be flying the exact same ship.
I've always had reservations about the Terran Empire skins Cryptic chose. I have watched the TOS episode Mirror Mirror a bunch of times over the years. To the point where I've almost got it memorized. Fellow usernamed Jetfreak and I did a TE faction for the old Armada 2 game back in the day. We decided to stay with the TOS theme for the ship skins. The TE Enterprise in Mirror Mirror was gunmetal overall with a large Terran Empire symbol center forward on the saucer and at various other places. We went with this and used gold as a trim to accent the line of the ship. Wish I had kept pics of them to show you.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
I headcanon that the colour change in STO from yellow to red is somehow meant to portray different political groups within the Terran Empire. I think what we get from dialogue is that Leeta isn't the Empress (at least not all the way through) but still strives to become. So yellow ships belong to a different subfaction than Leeta's red ones. And does anybody remember the first STO mirror universe ships, the purple ones?

"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Mine would be nothing special. I watched Into Darkness again last week and decided that I just like the look of the Default Vengeance. I put mine back to the regular Dreadnought pattern with no item visuals.
Sometimes things just look best the way they were originally intended.
Though I do have to say, the default look for the Deflector looks wrong to me. It's not blue enough, it's a different color then the movie. Not by much, but enough to bug me. I might put the Aegis Deflector back in the visual spot.

That seems to be common thought for what's been going on with the NPCs. Especially since the admiralty cards for our ISS mirror ships (lock box runner up prizes) are still in yellow livery.

Vaguely. It's been a while . That one looks like it's got a purple version of the Aegis set FX... which I would love to have access to .

It's the texture that gets me. I may be being mislead by the ultra-grade museum model, but the texture on the STO default hull material just doesn't look right to me.
((oh, and I've been running around on my Arbiter to unlock the ship trait... it's a beast. ))

It bugged me at first too, but I grew to like it. The texture gives the ship the 'raw' unfinished look, which makes sense because it wasn't entirely done when Marcus took it out in pursuit of the Enterprise. Being that it's an Intel ship though, it would have been nice if we could use Intel materials on it.
I'm inclined to believe they got the texture right (for values of 'right' that actually mean 'perfect'). The Eaglemoss figure has a very similar 'blotchy-blocks' pattern though at a predictably lower level of detail. For some reason the STO texture just feels off. I'll look at it again though. I could be crazy (or crazier than usual).

Holy god, that model is $10k?!?!?
I mean it's cool.. it's REALLY cool.. but that price is nuts.
It's gigantic (36" long x 18" wide x 8.5" high not including the base). It's essentially the same quality from the same artists as the one used to make the movie, only 100 were made, and near as I can tell they sold out almost instantly. A cool $1,000,000 for the prop shop.

Why was Star Wars VII shot with practical effects and models instead of CGI in many scenes? Same reason - when your models/props are the best in the world they still look better than CGI.
@nikeix Indeed it does. I'd wish that a mirror ship could choose from all three templates (Old STO, canon, new STO) so non of it is forgotten, but they could explain it at some point maybe making the headcanon "STO canon" by having all three factions of MU goons clash in a battle for speriority.
I always thought it would be nice to phase all old STO Cryptic designs out to the mirror universe so their ships actually look different from the canon and canon inspired newer ships Cryptic designed. As if the Mirror was also a glimpse into STOs past

Depends on what you want. CGI works a lot better for fast and busy action scenes IMO. The effort in trying to set up real models is ridicilous. But a physical model just tends to look better on close up and for beauty shots, where you notice all those CGI artificialness.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
So the default dreadnaught skin still bothers me, but I did find that the grey is sufficiently neutral you can paint both highlights and undertones on to it if you use flat-out black and white for your two paint colors.
The extra lines, especially on the nacelles give it much needed pop.
I've also just started using the MAKO adapted shield over that, and it's looking really sexy. No pictures yet, but soon.
I feel like it doesn't matter what material I use, the Dreadnaught never looks good with any of it. It tends to lack any detailing, or it has detailing I don't like. Particularly a problem with the Dreadnaught skin itself.
