Not talking about new skill system but rather the fundamental concept.
Do you want a Skill Revamp period? Or are you happy enough with things the way they are?
Just curious to see where people stand.

People still have every right to voice their support or displeasure with the change, optional or not. Do I want a revamp? Sure. Do I want Worlds of TrekCraft? Nope.

I would vote for this too if it were an option.
In addition to that, I'd want them to refund every respec ever done in the past on every toon.
It should also allow for more customization, not less, and only after a balance pass on the game.
The current skill system actually looks and feels dated. I don't know how much of that is having grown used to it and how much of it comes from it looking much like a lot of older systems I've seen/used. It clearly needs something done to it but I'm really unsure about combining skills in the way outlined by that post. I mean, with the current system you could say that Grav and Particle gens are a 'grouped' skill, but you at least have the flexibility in only taking one and whether you want the necessary defense by taking Inertial Damps in the next Tier up after having spent points getting there.
Still, things to be glad about. Ground and Space point separation and perhaps a move away from lvl and rank being weirdly combined when they're clearly not directly related currently, to either being combined or separated properly.
Next up, could someone please sort the mess that is the ship tier system and perhaps finally undo the childs-bedroom-styled-state that is Lower T5 (lvl40), Upper T5 (lvl50) and T5U (50-60)? Possible hint: Lower T5 = T5, Upper T5 = T6, T5U = T7 (assuming we don't actually get a T5U should be T6 without a mastery trait thing), T6 = T8 because more HP and boff abilities...
Stop new content until quality returns
But there are two things that, based on the information we have so far, I'm not going to like: I'm not a fan of combining skills, especially science ones. And the loss of an option to specialise more in ground combat is disappointing too.
Why is it that every time someone has a complaint on here you show up and basically tell them to **** off and accept it? IRL do you just roll over and accept it any time a company you do business with does something you don't like? If your cell phone bill was twice the rate it was supposed to be for no reason, and they refused to change it, would you just accept that? I know its a completely different situation, but the point is when you don't like something it is your every right to voice your opinion even if it won't change anything.

Oh dear... another person who thinks that balance only serves the interests of PvP'ers.
How many times does it need to be explained: if no one PvP's, as people tend to say here, then their influence would only be marginal. If they do have a lot of influence, then they're more important than you make them out to be.
The discussion on the importance of PvP is irrelevant anyway. Viability of different builds and balance are as much a concern of PvE'ers as they are for PvP'ers.
This...........
People have wanted this for years? I haven't seen those folks; and I sure as heck wasn't one of them.
What I do NOT want is to see my characters' capabilities nerfed in the name of making it easier for new players to learn, or to chisel out another way of monetizing every mouse click.

Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
Exactly, but every other MMO out there is still heel bent on copying the Vanilla WoW skill system. I've played several MMOs, back in the day SWG had a VERY intricate skill system, but they switched to the vanilla wow model with the NGE, SWTOR launched with this type of system, and LotRO switched to it a couple years ago as well.
I would have much preferred a new and original system.
