Edit: I'd just like to add that retiring the Sarr Theln (a T6 ship) does seem rather mean toward people who were counting on it being available this year.
I started playing STO last year and it was really disappointing too have missed the Q event for this ship by about 1 month. I kept playing like 4 months before taking a break and just logged back in a few days ago, specifically to prepare for this event so i could finally acquire this nice Sci ship.
I just rejoined reddit last night and to my sad surprise was greeted with "Should we tell him ...." and a link to this blog/post.
I mainly like sci based carriers, so after getting me a Tholian Recluse Carrier i was looking forward to acquire this ship for over 10 months now, just to find out the sad news. The last lockbox sci carrier (Herald Vonph) where way to expansive for my taste and i hate the lockbox gamble mechanic.
So at least put the Q event ships in the lobi store, so we can decide if we want to spend 50-80€ for one.
PS: Even if there are new sci carriers planed in the near future (i doubt it), i like the strange look of this carrier and hope there will be some new way of acquiring it without spending 100+ €.

I'm simply going to reiterate what many have already said. I'm a lifetime subscriber. I have spent several hundred dollars on this game. I do not like that Cryptic is retiring ships from the events. New players will not have the opportunity to get ships/consoles/mastery skills that other players have access to.
If you want to offer, "exclusives," then give us exclusive costumes, ship decorations, bridge layouts, etc. You know darn well that we'll grind to get those things because we're die hard fans. Just don't lock away content that affects game play. It's not fair, and it hurts your reputation with the player base.
I do want to say one more thing... This is the first time in a while that I didn't jump at purchasing something for this game during the sale. I'm not happy with where this ship is headed Cryptic. I will vote with my wallet.

I don't think there is a time limit on when we can trade them in. I remember with the Summer pearl turn in store, it was stated that the store would not be getting removed at all it'd just no longer be visible to people once they no longer had any of the old currency to trade in. So I assume the same principal will apply to the summer one.
Official conformation one way or the other would be welcomed though. I've still not had a chance to go through all of my toons and trade in the old currency.

Actually I think it would be fun to do a xmas theme on Risa, just take a small island cover it with snow in shorts and t-shirt weather. Even better, do a summer theme on a snowball planet. That would be more Q's style.
I was looking forward to getting my self the entire breen collection this year after I only got the Chel Grett from the last event. But this blows. It would of been better if they gave instant access for all the old ships they retired.
Yeah, I have thousands of photos (I was good for the next 3-4 years!) that I'm miffed that I can't use for a ship. And now where's the 'consolation prize' store for em?
For me, that's greyed out. But most of my chars don't have Qpics.
The Winter buyback tab in the event rep store only shows up on chars that have any Q-pics to exchange in the first place. Same with the old summer currency (whatever it was). When you exchange all of your old Q-pics, the tab will disappear.

I just came here to read all the "boohoo the 960 photos I saved up last year so I could have this year's ship on day one was done for nothing!" comments I knew this announcement would bring. I'm not disappointed.
Only 960 ? I had 1300 on multiple toons for this, but heck- the race is so easy and I get 6 specialty for 'free' on each of those toons for the trade-in. The magic was last years decision to make those previously claimed Breen ships account unlocks, . My new rommie toon that got gyped out of the new dawn givaway (sub 50 cannot claim the T5 ship) has been flying the T6 carrier since lvl 42, and never had to play the summer/winter games.
The big thing at the end of the day that I really want to know that I don't feel we've been given adequate explanation for is why, after so many years, is this just now being considered an issue? I get it that they want people to run the event and what not so making the currency exclusive to that particular year I can get. However overall I still see no legitimate reason for the ships themselves to be removed with no plans as of yet for alternate acquisition.
Look up some of our "new" EP Salamiinferno's posts from the Risa "debacle".
In them, he said things to the extent of:
To please the almighty metric, we need those 25 logins this year, not last year, not next year.
So, to... "encourage"... as many people to give those 25 log ins on an semi-annual basis, we're making all event ships exclusive to the year that they're being offered. No more "well, I'll run 2 alts next year and get 2 ships". You want the Rezreth, you need to be on this year, aka now.
Didn't give the logins for the Samsar last Risa? Sorry, out of luck. We needed them then, not on your alt in 2016...
Of course, he provided an out - to those who have the previous ships still slotted. If you never slotted the ship (aka shown interest in them during prior years), then he seems to have felt that you wouldn't necessarily want it this year.

It gives no reason as to a player who Couldn't event for whatever reason, or you know, NEW PLAYERS, who never had the chance to get said ship, and will not have it staring them in the face every time they go to the rep store with no way to get it
Getting the event ships required nothign special, you are not special for having it, it literally JUST means that you were playing at the time, you won no tournament, won no contest, nothing.
Lord yes must appease the metric or aka, the guys in china want to see us playing 25 days every year to earn the ship or they'll pull the plug on future events and possably the whole game. Like i that movie with michesl keaton where the japanase company took over an auto manafacturing plant and demanded no less than 1000 cars a month be built.
I for one can show where i not only played 25 days pls year one but also year 2 nd year 3. so they had my metrics. so if they would see even if i had not completed it by the last day each year not only would i earn the currency next and apply it to the old one, but i'd also try to earn it for the current year so if i still needed 40-120 photos to finish (1-4 logins0 i'd still need 25 logins for new ship. alsdo this seams to be an attitude of how dare you let real life cuircumstances keep you away from game?
heh, I'm running the event on 4 toons. Not that I can claim the ship 4 times but lets see how their hamster wheel likes 4k vouchers input for a single award.
So STILL no fix for this after patch today! What are you guys waiting for? The end of the event? Only thing worse than not getting a ship with my 5000 stockpiled photos is having these things sitting around while Cryptic trys to figure out how to do what they did already at the summer event! You guys lose the code or something?
