five ships sitting to one side... wait for the dreadnought to spawn... pop that... and...
126 marks ... repeat.
Wait, that's impossible...! I did it yesterday, we closed some rifts (a dozen?), we activated defenses (up to level 3), we killed dozens of enemy ships, in the end we were overwhelmed and the base died but I still received only 126 marks...? We played it actively, all 5 of us!
Next time i'll be sure I AFK the whole thing, doing stuff seems pointless... is there an afk channel or what?
You are missing the point here most (if not all) of the people who are admitting to afking in this mission, don't afk in other ones. We don't do it because they like to afk, we just object to the way this mission is set up (especially considering it is the only way to get the event item.
Compare this event to Crystalline entity, the way that is set up it is extremely alt friendly for it's event and you never afkers there.
But what's your reasoning about deserving a reward without doing anything for it? Well, okay, you'll go after the dread in the end. But that's only a technicality. Cryptic says "Do X to get Y". You do want Y but don't want to do X, so you have to make a choice - either do something you don't really want or skip the reward. You have found a way to play Cryptic on this by taking a third option. And that would be okay with me (as would it be if this was nerfed somehow, because you are not entitled to that third option working) as long as you do not ruin other players' (especially my) fun doing it. Go gather in a channel, do it in a group. At least that bit of effort for the reward cannot be too much if you really want the reward.
Wrong. "X" is "kill the dreadnought." There is no third option.
The game tells us we will win phase one in 11 minutes regarless of player action.
The game tells us we will win phase two when the dreadnought is dead.
Thus, to earn the reward, we need to wait 11 minutes and kill the dreadnought.
Some of us simply choose to skip the distracting little sidequests that award peanuts along the way.

Mechanically, yes, that's why it is a third option. From the mission statement: no. That's why people want to do the other stuff, too.
And it's fine if you want to wait out the first part. But do it with like minded people please.
My mother was an epohh and my father smelled of tulaberries
Then that's the solution. The mission needs to be adjusted so that it cannot be completed without those earlier objectives, and that you must measurably contribute to those objectives to receive any reward.

I'm not responsible for other people's wants. The game says 11 minutes + dead dreadnought, everything else is optional.
If you don't want to be teamed with players who take the mission objectives literally, run a private queue.
Then that's the solution. The mission needs to be adjusted so that it cannot be completed without those earlier objectives, and that you must measurably contribute to those objectives to receive any reward.
That would be a terrible solution because then half the time people who are playing the mission as intended would not get the reward.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.
Tbh AFKers make no difference to me in a queue. 3 escorts require 1 TBR 1 to kill and close the Rift and move on to the next one and repeat. Science vessel or cruiser? 1 iso kinetic cannon shot. Massive zerg pile? GW1 and DRB3 with a sensor scan and watch the fireworks. Tbh it's all too easy.
I've actually not seen any afk this year. though i've been doing mostly normal. normal is good for me because i try to get my doffing and admiralty done in the 5 min deadtime.

Oh, horsefeathers. Completely incapable of closing one rift, transferring power to one substation, killing one bad guy? Please. The transparent enabling of effortless entitlement is growing tiresome. Why such a strong aversion to earning your keep?

I do earn my keep. I don't care about marks and that's all the first section is for. Once the dreadnought spawns I'm all in cause that is all I am there for.
If there was a version of the mission that was nothing but the final wave to get the transponder, I'd be all over it, but this is my only option.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.

No...you have the option of don't play it if it is that unfun for you. What is wrong with you people?!?
Not if I want the transponder.

Yes you WANT something...that does not equal you have no options. Seriously people, get a grip.
Ok, I want the transponder, but can't stand the mission. I have no other way to get transponder but to play the mission. If I have to play it, I'm gonna do it in the way that I find to least annoying.
You got a problem with it, take it up with the people who designed the mission. In the mean time I will play it in my way, you play your way.

Exactly this.
People complaining about AFKers don't seem to understand WHY they AFK. The AFKers dont go into ISA or Borg Disconnected or other maps and AFK. IT IS JUST MIRROR.
So why?
Because CRYPTIC MADE the map with a time gate. This literally means nothing you do matters. T1 ship or T6 fleet ship, doesn't make 1 SECOND of difference. Mk1 gear or epic mkIV gear, doesn't make 1 SECOND of difference.
THIS is the problem.
Blame cryptic for this, not the players.
So stop ranting to AFKers, they won't change, because there is literally no point in changing. Rant at crytpic to make a GOOD mission event.
People complaining about AFKers don't seem to understand WHY they AFK.
I understand that just fine. I just dismiss your irrelevant rationalizing. Nobody cares what excuses you give yourselves.
Courtesy? For not helping you maybe get a couple of extra marks? Please, the difference in reward between a good or bad performance are so negligible that it is laughable.
And anyway if marks are why you are there, well you are just dumb. There are plenty of better places to get the marks you need.
Try again Pal.

I'm sorry, but you would be absolutely incorrect here, as players do afk in every single mission you just listed. The only reason they tend to afk slightly less, in the regular pve queue missions, is they can actually get an afk penalty, while the events do not penalize them what so ever!
Borg disco is time gated, gateway to grethor is time gated, there are a few queues that are time gated [not all, but a few], and yet people still tend to try to do only just enough to avoid the afk penalty, while the rest of the time they sit doing nothing, or being a pest!

Got my first during Assault on Terok Nor during the "protect the engineers" phase which is also a timegate and for most of the STF they fired a shot every 3 minutes and went into corners or ran into walls. What is the excuse, this time?
People complaining about AFKers don't seem to understand WHY they AFK.

So...showing off how you lack common courtesy in spades I see. How about YOU try again. You know how many times I have been told that people who AFK were going to do it during the 1 min premission can't do jack time? ZERO. I'd be WAY less annoyed if you said what you planned from the start. Hell, I'd probably just join you at that point and chat.
I actually used to do that in previous runs, but I got too much abuse. I just do it quietly now, and people don't seem to notice 90% percent of the time

Maybe. But I couldn't care less about whether I get 5 marks more or less. What I do care about is whether I spend a quarter of an hour of my spare time having fun doing the mission itself or whether it is useless because there are two or three guys just like you. Preferrably even being there just to click "need" on every drop.

So Cryptic made a queue you do not like. Happens. Still does not mean you should be ruining my fun. If you don't like the terms of a shop, do you annoy people actually shopping there? "Blame the shop owners, they did not have that raspberry chocolate I want"?

Heh. I had a guy on my team who did just that. He spent the entire time cloaked and was always the first to click need on loot drops. He also didn't lift a finger to help when the dreadnought arrived.

The fact "what is it that rewards" is the dreadnaught at the end is a meta game aspect.
And since it is you diminishing other players' enjoyment, it is your job tun run the private queue.
Then Obisek lies.
No, it's you looking to control other players' playstyle who should run the private queue.
That would be a terrible solution because then half the time people who are playing the mission as intended would not get the reward.

So best defense anyone can muster is that you're not physically prevented from doing it. Common courtesy is something that must be coerced from you.
