Official Feedback Thread for Admiralty

coldsnappedcoldsnapped Member Posts: 520 Cryptic Developer
Please use this thread to post feedback and issues found with our new system Admiralty.

Admiralty:
  • Admiralty is a new system which allows a level 52 - 60 captain to send out any starship that the captain currently has access to for assignments which will reward valuable assets and advance influence and prestige.
  • The starships that can be used are all currently commissioned ships in the captain’s roster.
    • This does not include starships still in rewardpacks are ones which are unclaimed in the ship store.
    • Captains will only ever have access to a single Admiralty Ship per class of ship they have access to.
    • “Fleet” and “Mirror” versions of existing classes are counted as separate classes.
  • Each Admiralty ship has the following characteristics: Tier, Rarity, Stats, Special Abilities, and Maintenance.
    • These characteristics will be used to determine which ships go on what assignments.
  • There is also a chain of assignments called “Tour of Duty” which lead to the largest rewards each campaign has to offer.
  • With the launch of season 11, players will have access to two campaigns each with their own set of rewards:
    • United Federation of Planets
    • Klingon Empire
  • The Admiralty system can be accessed in the Duty Officer and R&D Systems UI as a new tab.
  • This system is still a work in progress and not complete.
  • For more details, please visit the Admiralty blog at: https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9572303-star-trek-online:-admiralty-system

Known Issues:
  • The XP bar does not update to upper tiers without moving to another map.
  • The Available Assignments sort by Alphabet instead of in order.
  • Not all tooltips have been implemented.

The Available Assignments sort by Alphabet instead of in order.
Not all tooltips have been implemented.

A few more Admiralty-specific known issues in the current build:
    - Not all rewards are showing up in the rewards previews
    - Maintenance is not in a finished state, and does not currently allow buyouts (eventually you'll be able to use Dilithium to buy a ship out of Maintenance)
    - Some terminology is not final, and will change. Most notably the term "Bonus" will be changed to something that more obviously ties it to Critical Chance.
    - "Increased Base Rewards" earned by increasing your Campaign Tier are currently not functional.

We're also still looking closely at overall tuning, including durations, ship scores, ship special abilities, score requirements, event rewards, and more. You should feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the system, if it feels "off."

Positive or neutral feedback is also still feedback, so don't be shy. ;)

I'm rather disappointed that someone went to the effort to even put this system in place, let alone spent time on it.

What we have here essentially is Doffing. Only not.

As an out-of-game product on something web based... like the Gateway, a Phone App, or Facebook, this might be an interesting companion to STO for people who are on break at work and want a little extra.

Ingame however, it is nothing more than a tragic UI Grind which really offers no content what-so-ever, requires few assets to make or update (good on your end), and offers the end user nothing beyond the lowest possible rewards for a mind-numbingly repetitive ui interaction.

I know you guys are, as creative humans, capable of coming up with more engaging things to do in the game than cheap things like this..

Glad you said the numbers are not finalised. My KDF has a fair few store ships but still struggled to meet the numbers being requested so I am assuming we are expected to not be able to achieve 100% scores all the time.

Suggestion: Put ship admiralty scores/status under the shipyard stats preview as well so we know if a ship is worth claiming into the system.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

Maintenance times seem a bit excessive, personally I don't feel that they should exceed 20-24 hours, though I'll see how it looks with more testing.

I kind of like it. I feel like I should object because it is yet another UI thing to suck up all my time without real enjoyment like an iOS app. But it is nice to have a point to all of those old ships and the rewards are decent, even if it takes forever.

One big thing I would like is for the ship card to show the ship name. As an Admiral I want to be dispatching the USS Whatever that I used to fly, not generic Thingy Mirror Federation Advanced Assault Tactical Escort Carrier Thing [T5-WTF]. Class names means it loses some class.

Now I understand once you get the card, it isn't tied to your actual ship anymore. But how we are able to rename the cards? I don't know, I just know I'd like the ship names somehow.

Anything else? Well still early as it takes forever (can we get a speed up on Tribble?) so this may well be in there and I haven't seen any hint yet, but to make up for being stuck in the UI it would be cool to have the campaign show a plot somehow. Like when you hit certain tiers you have a Sela-style message pop up that adds some dept to the tiny descriptions of what we're doing in the campaigns. Maybe even a mini-mission (like the New Romulus reputation) but that is probably asking too much. Just something that goes beyond the UI!

@borticuscryptic gave a formula on that look like this 10*(Tier^3)= Minutes
wich whould calculate as the the following for T6 Ships 10*(6*6*6)= 2,160min wich is 36 hours

    Original Ships - Common
    Mirror Ships - Uncommon
    C-store Ships - Rare
    Fleet Ships - Very Rare
    Event Ships - Ultra Rare
Epic - unknown (for some reason my free Bortas was shown as Epic, but nothing similar on my Fed character).

This ship rarity bothers me. Because after testing. Common ships that most F2Pers have in their shipyards, are really useless (even in with the very easy missions at the beginning) and Very Rare / Fleet Ships perform way beyond. I can't help but to think that this is a new money scheme for whales to buy and discard fleet ships just to get a whole inventory of Very Rare quality ships to do these missions.

So for a system I thought had fun potential, I no longer want to do anything with it. I shouldn't be required to drop hundreds of dollars to do this Admirality system.

EDIT: Also I like to point out that due to the lack of Sci-Heavy Ships with the KDF, they can't do these Sci-Heavy missions.

I have to check that out. It did seemed on the low end the ships was honestly TRIBBLE. Then the stuff you have to pay for was better off.

I'm just saying I feel it's excessive, I mean I don't think any ship should exceed 24 hours of maintenance personally.

I am going to test it some more, but it just doesn't feel right, if you get my meaning? It may well be I decide otherwise later but we'll see.

My KDF DSDs -- the event one, and the C-Store ones -- aren't showing up in the admiralty system KDF-side. (I noticed that, when I claimed them, the little "received item" popup notification had a Starfleet icon next to it, so maybe their faction is misconfigured?)

Also, this system is demonstrating, yet again, the dire need for more sci KDF-side.

ETA: My Samsar isn't showing up as an admiralty ship on my KDF, either. (ETA2: Map-moving made some of them appear, but most of the "cross-faction" ships still don't show up for KDF.)

ETA (again): Never mind; I'm wrong. Seems this is a bug with the game not properly awarding new admiralty ships in general unless you specifically click on the tab. I posted about it further below.

I could be wrong and I'm patching to have a look for myself but maybe the intent of this system is to stimulate interest/demand in lower tier ships while higher tier ships have the obvious advantage of being usable more in gameplay?

    1) I'll agree, there's too much of a difference between low-end starter ships and Lockbox/Lobi ships. In fact, there's too much of a difference between C-Store and Lockbox/Lobi ships, just based on my informal observations. Lockbox/Lobi ships seemed to fill some of the lower-end missions quite nicely and were decent additions to the mid- to higher-end lines, while C-Store and free-from-leveling ships struggled.

    2) If maintenance on some ships is 1.5 days days, that's way too long for what others have described as a "UI addon with no content." If I've gotta wait 20 hours on a Tour of Duty mission to complete and 36 hours for the T6 ships to come out of maintenance, why should I have to have that ship out of service for effectively 2.3 days?

    3) This does promote the "need" to buy T6 ships from the C-Store just to keep the system running constantly. If you want me a F2P to use this system regularly, you'll have to either offer considerably lower timers (maintenance = time of mission) or higher rewards for the longer wait.

As for practical suggestions, 2 things:

    1) As someone else said, make the Admiralty Ship stats available as part of any ship's basic information from the Reward Packs, C-Store, and Ship Vendors. Let us see what their stats are before we purchase them. As I said in Point 2, if we're effectively "forced" into buying T6 ships just to keep rolling the Admiralty missions, I'd like to know what I"m getting in advance.

    2) Can you make it clearer where the Admiralty Ships are located in the DOFF UI? I had to search to find them under Roster, but I'd imagine a link from the Admiralty UI would help as well.

It's a good theory, hopefully I'll be able to cover everything before it releases, but if the projects could be completed quickly for testing purposes that'd help a lot.

I really wish we could reclaim/claim ships from the c-store on tribble. I went to the shipyard to claim my c-store science ships and could not. this will make testing this part of the system impossible, and limits my choices, since when this launches that's the first thing I'm going to do (reclaim all of my c-store ships). Is there a technical reason we can't claim our ships?

I don't see the issue. It does not take much to use fleet ships, and fleet ships seem to get a nice boost for these missions. What I think you need for this system is variety of ships to get to needed numbers, not op t6 ships. Mirror ships seem to work just fine.

I don't think it's a technical issue; I think it's just that Cryptic doesn't want people to be able to buy ships on the "wrong" server.

You can just do what I did, and claim C-Store ships on Holodeck before copying your character to Tribble. It's a pain, but it works.

So I figured out how to get all my ships to show up. You have to actually explicitly click the Admiralty tab to get newly-unboxed ships added to the system. If you just claim and then immediately dismiss (because you want to keep ship slots free), you won't get the Admiralty ship. You need to claim, open the Admiralty tab (so the ship will be added), and then dismiss.

Sometimes map-moving does it too, but clicking the Admiralty tab consistently does it. It works for the aforementioned cross-faction ships, too.

I'm gonna assume this extra step isn't WAI. If it is, it seriously needs rethinking.

As we have discovered it only checks for 'new' ships once you open the admiralty UI. So you currently can commission and delete a ship without it going into the admiralty system if you 'forget' to open the UI.

To make it a bit more foolproof maybe add an additional check for those whenever you interact with a ship selector. In theory that should make it impossible for someone to remove a ship without it going into your ship roster while at the same time not putting huge footprint on the servers.

Some overall thoughts on the system:

Even though I haven't gotten to see much of it yet, I like it. It gives me a use for all those zillions of ships I have laying around and, up until now, haven't needed. Hopefully it will have the longevity of doffing, which -- UI timesink or not -- is one of my favorite bits of the game.

Low-tier ships need to be made more useful, though. I get that the whole entire point of having higher-tier ships is that they're better, but one of the things I was most hoping to see from this system was a way of getting more use out of my lowbie ships. And yeah, low-tier ships have lower maintenance costs and some special abilities added, but these things really aren't much use when what you really need to complete these assignments are the huge numbers that only higher-tier ships afford. Maybe if there were more assignments that didn't have such exorbitant requirements, lower-tier ships would be more attractive to use. As it is, even the basic white assignments seem really expensive.

Also, I have to agree that maintenance times are waaaaaaay too long across the board. They should be at least halved, IMO.

Guys, guys. The system has been on Tribble for <8 hours. Claiming it takes too long is a bit silly, doncha think? It's not like we want players to blaze thru the whole system in a weekend.

There's some good feedback here already, but I think some of you have forgotten that this is an MMO progression system that's completely intended to have a long lifespan.

Also, this won't be all you do when logging in under normal circumstances. Try to keep in mind how it fits in with the rest of your daily gameplay flow, instead of examining it in a vaccuum.

T6 Battlecruiser is classed as a Tac ship.
Fleet T6 Battlecruiser is classed as a Eng ship.
Also both use different naming conventions.

Will the system (as a quality of life improvement) be able to simply draw from the pool of c-store ships you don't have currently commisioned? I really don't want to have to cycle through all the ships i have thrown out, just to get the system into 'working order'.

To get dilithium you either spend money for Zen to convert or grind endlessly to get dilithium for Zen for ships which is already inflated.

So yup. Its pay to win with heavy built in monetization.

I'm curious: what's the lore justification for the limited-use ships? I can see how they work gameplay-wise, but from a plot standpoint it seems weird to just suddenly have a ship join my fleet, only to disappear again as soon as it's done a mission.

The maintenance time gap between T5 and T6 ships creates an odd effect. ~21 hours means I can use my T5 ships once-ish per day, while the ~36 hours for the T6 ships means I can use them once every other day, because I don't play 12+ hours a day. While lower T3-T4 once are still long enough to really only be once per day. (T1 and T2 might cycle fast enough for multiple uses a day, but I don't know if there are enough easy missions to bother?)

This creates a rather sharp of a "peak" of value for high rarity T5 Admiralty ships. Not sure if this is intended and have not played enough to know it is a serious problem.

Last time I checked, Dilithium was free.

Last time I checked, you could buy DIlithium with real money to "speed up" the process
Last time I checked, you could only refine a fixed number of Dil a day per character.
Last time I checked it takes over 20K dil just to upgrade a single weapon to Mk XIV.
Last time I checked it takes 34K to buy rep Dil gear.
Last time I checked your Starbase doesn't progress unless you give it a nice lump of Dilithium every day.

Bort do you play this game? Do you know how hard it is to earn refined Dil compared to how many things use it? I'm really not trying to be offensive, but the vast majority of players get discouraged because of how much these things cost, especially if they haven't spent money on LTS.

What do you suggest we do? As it is right now I spend the vast majority of my Dil on upgrading my Fleet, I rarely have the opportunity to spend it on anything else because of how utterly expensive things are in comparison to how little you can refine every day.

I have enough unrefined Dilithium to last me half a year, and so many Rep marks that I have no reason to spend, yet I have next to no Fleet Marks, and barely enough Dilithium to do anything with.

How is it "pay to win" when you're just saving time, though? The maintenance mechanic isn't stopping you from completing the campaigns, and you don't get any special reward for completing them more quickly.
