I play Federation because when I first started playing the game during open beta Federation was the only faction you could immediately start with and I was never interested in the PvP to begin with. Add to that the fact I'm VERY much in the "one primary character per MMO" party, the character I made first was pretty much the only one I was going to regularly play. I'm still playing that character to this day. I do have Romulan and Klingon characters but I've done little more than play through their unique story quests.
The universe has a wonderful sense of humor. The trick is learning how to take a joke.

12 characters, all finally at level 60, but none with even a single Spec Tree filled. I think 2 Feds, 2 FedRoms, 4KDFRoms, 4 KDFs. When I started playing it was Fed-only until level 20, so I made a Betazoid Engineer because the team regen buff and abilities seemed useful based on other MMOs; it wasn't until later that I learned how ineffective passive regen is in this game, the limited value of tanking in Space combat, and that shield bypassing damage became widespread in Ground. Anyway, by the time I made my Klingon Sci I'd already joined and left my first Fleet following a break among the leadership. My second Fleet had not just a Fedside, but a KDFside as well, so I started spending time over there and found that I liked the community. Between that and the understaffing of our KDFside, I started spending more time over there, and as I started making more characters (I'm generally an alt-o-holic in any MMO I play) they were mostly KDF. The addition of the Romulans didn't change that, and so my characters tend to lean more heavily towards KDF/KDFRoms. I have an even split amongst the various Professions (4 of each), though just to stick it to the metrics I have a grand total of 0 Federation Science captains (I do have a FedRom Sci, though).
Basically, I play KDFside most of the time because I like it there (mostly because of the other players), and because I feel like I contribute more to my Fleet on that side of things. I still prefer to maintain characters of every faction, though, because... well... I like playing every aspect of a game rather than pigeon holing myself.

My mains however are Fed, Rom-Fed, and Orion.
The Orion has fallen far behind as it is much too grindy/expensive to get stuff across 3 characters while also playing the other alts.
I no longer even look at KDF ships except for a T6 BoP which better be a match to pilot ships.
Even the Rom that I identify most with is struggling because of being cornered in the sense of having zero T6 science ships and zero carriers for so very long that most of the good gear's going the way of Fed.
My Roms are actually 'aligned' with the RSE and would jump at the chance to blow their cover and be independent.
Explain Why: I started out as Fed Sci because after always choosing 'warrior' classes in other games I started liking mages that don't rely on weapons and blunt force but on psychokinetic/ESP/stealth/illusion type approaches.
Fed because they have some real great ship designs, like the prometheus, dauntless, wells, sovereign, and intrepid.
Romulan Tac because the species looks real interesting, tactical because they had no science ships and I grew to liking Tac as much as Sci. I also associated better with their plight, their unusual nature, and the creative potential the species has. Plus, who doesn't find intrigue in RPing a secretive, overpowering, and also mysterious species that can be either a formidable villain or a welcoming and passionate people driven by freedom. Diversity, perhaps more so than any other species, makes room for creative interpretation, and many ways to play without having to fall out of character, and I'm still learning about them more.
Orion because seduction, and that explains more than you need to know, but also because despite not following the Klingon code of honor or being a warrior, it fits in that society which has greater tolerance for differences and the natural order of letting anarchy run its course and find its own balance so long as it doesn't destroy itself in the process, or something of the sort. There, you watch your own back, and no one rules over another among warriors, so exploitation or oppression will meet their own ends swiftly and by one's own blade.

So, an Orion or are you a furry?
Similar here: I have 3 Feds and one Reman. My KDF toon didn't even get through the KDF storyline before I was repulsed by the Klingons even to the point of despising having to set foot on QonoS or do DOFF assignments, no matter how lucrative.

I also have 2 Romulans, 1 is Fed alligned and one is KDF.
I don't have any Klingons because as many times as I tired to play one, I just can't get into them. Their entire story is an after thought, there are hardly any KDF players for fleet ques and I didn't like any of their ships.
Like many players though, if they developed some actual KDF content, I would create a Klingon and play the content.

But yeah, Blues (x3) and a Red.
Fed, well because its called star trek online.
Klingon because they're badass.
I have one romulan but after the storyline I couldn't get into maxing him out. Not sure why. Maybe because they're not real romulans?
Define "Real" romulan. Do you mean to say only the elite powerhungry evil mustache twirlers were "real"?

My Fed Alien male was my original character and my main until I replaced him with my Klingon female DR as my new main.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.

Yeah, and there was no way my Reman would lack in self respect enough to ally with the Klinks either. Why would she, having experienced slavery at the hands of the Romulans, get in bed with another empire that would make her people be second-class citizens at best? The Federation is not perfect by any means but it would be much more in line with her vision for Remans with full rights and self-determination.

I guess "real" was a poor choice of words. I like the romulans of the TNG era and would have preferred them to be more that style.
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the romulan arc but once it's done it feels like you're playing fed-lite.
It might have helped if Roms were their own faction but it is what it is.
I have one rom I levelled to 50 and one remen who I created then never played. I have about 4 or 5 feds and about 5 kdf. All 5 kdf are level 50 plus and only 2 feds are level 50 plus.
