Do we have any news from the devs about what's wrong?

Considering that there's still about 30 minutes to go of maintenance I think that might be your problem. Try again in half an hour.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.

Well, It has been a while since today's maintenance window ended, yet lag is absolutely killing me. The weekly patch download was awfully slow, though when it was done I took what it looked like a normal time to log in and get to the character selection screen, but that was it.
It took almost a full minute until I could star moving on the sector zone, and was totally unplayable when I joined an STF, as more ships entered the map it only got worse.
I thought it might be my lousy Argentinean ISP, but now I'm downloading files at speeds over 720 Kb/s and I have no issues watching full HD Youtube videos.

    Edit:

Well... in my haste to complain I skipped the responsible thing to do, which is actually reading the forum guidelines before just posting the complain.
Now after finding the server I should be checking I had some interesting results:

    Tracing route to patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.185.41]

Seems my lousy ISP is doing just fine for a change but just after the verizon jump things go downhill with pings over 180ms, an awful one of 617ms, and a couple of straight out time outs (these could be servers with network control protocol configured to not respond to pings/traces but can also mean SERIOUS trouble)
