If Brotherhood of the Sword doesn't mean a new First City, I don't imagine a few fires in promo art means another new ESD.
Is anyone else struck but the horrible, horrible formating of the announcement article? It's to the point I don't even necessarily think it's poorly done so much as accidentally released before it was subjected to a formatting step that's supposed to happen right before publishing.
A remarkably uninformative news. The launch date of the episode is not even mentioned. And by the way, we knew that ESD is gonna have a hard time since the season 11 trailer. And i think that another revamp of ESD is very unlikely.

Well, maybe not... but a revamp of ESD is much needed. I mean, it's about time my fleet admiral got his own office there xD
And it would be a nice opportunity to remove that Trill admiral who's sitting at my desk...
Man they really phoned that one in. The game has been building to this episode since release and this is the announcement?
You must've missed the part where they phoned in the entire story arc.
"Great War! / And I cannot take more! / Great tour! / I keep on marching on / I play the great score / There will be no encore / Great War! / The War to End All Wars"
— Sabaton, "Great War"
So what's this technological advantage that they are scrambling to bring into the field? It can't be the Krenim weapon as that one has already been used and afterwards everyone was all "Eh, let's not do that again..."
If the temporal prime directive is being invoked, it has to be another form of time travel.
The last episode is coming, good to know. Next thread? (we're really drawing from the bottom of the barrel of discussion when the formatting not being up to expectations becomes an issue.)

I'm not holding my breath for either a long, or enjoyable finale. I'm predicting a real snoozer dialog session between Nog, Seven, Jarok, Kagran, and the gang, a warp out of the system. a move for somewhere else, maybe a couple minutes of action, and then watch the deus ex machina solution happen.

After this news, do you know :
- the launch date of the episode ? no.
- The rewards of the episode ? no.
- The length of the initial run (mission playable by lvl 10+ characters instead of lvl60-only) ? No.
But you do know :
- the title of the episode : every person who used to go to a now-defunct source knows the title for months.
- That ESD is gonna be half-destroyed : every one of us who has seen the season 11 trailer knows that for weeks now.
So yes, for me a "news" that brings me NO information at all is an issue.

I think at this point the folks at Cryptic just want this Iconian thing to be over. Five years is an eternity in game development, let alone one story arc. I say drop the damn thing early and be done with it.
Excited about it? Yeah, unnh, no. What I am is very relieved to finally be nearing the end of The War Which Was Fought With Dev Blogs. And that is as jazzed as I intend to get.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
Maybe the walls close in on Earth, Qo'nos, and New Romulus and they decide to point the timeship at Iconia. Mutually assured destruction may be enough to dissuade the Iconians from their diabolical plan. Maybe we would even have the added benefit of them putting off their campaign for destruction for a later time, keeping the biggest big bad available for another, much better Iconian war arc.

Well, it does inform us of the name of the episode and that we're finally rid of those unimaginative iconians.
Six months already with no immersion. Were we even at war?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Well that's entirely on you. Its an announcement, not a blog. Release dates, a full rewards breakdown, and especially a run-time figure aren't customary features.
It's coming, now we "officially" know. Job done. Next blog.

What i do notice, is that this multiplication of announcements / blogs / call it whatever you like has one only goal : to build up excitement (in a very clumsy way, but this is not the subject). It would be much, much more efficient to release one news / blog / ... with all the info than to do 3 near-empty news when one would suffice.
I didn't think the final arc was bad per se; it was 'Trekish' enough (and no worse then arcs from DS9 over it's run, et al.) What they didn't do (which I was disappointed about) was not even attempt to put any of that desperation (IE the Arcs speaks of attacks on major installations, Federation, Romulan Republic, and Klingon colonies, etc.) into the STO meta game. We have Borg Red Alerts, Tholian Red Alerts, but they didn't even attempt to add an Iconian/Herald Red Alert, or really anything in the STO meta game that even hints at this 'Desperation' supposedly EVERY major Star Nation (Fed, RSE, RR, KDF, and supposedly even races in the Gamma and Delta quadrats) in the Milky Way galaxy is supposedluy experiencing. <--- that was probably the most disappointing aspect that the Devs (IMO) dropped the ball on here. YMMV.
Either way, bring on the final episode for this arc, and lets see if they can do a bit better with the new storyline they introduce with the Season 1 update.

I agree. Instead of a Herald battlezone and red alerts, it's episodes with more dialog than action and tales of the war. This is what we spent 5 years waiting for? I would rather keep waiting.
I dont get it. This is the Arc we've been building up to since ... forever. NO RAs? No Battlezone? Patrols? Shuttle Missions? Doff missions????
Now that it's here.. 8 episodes.. done. Half of them are focused on the friggen Krenim. (They should of had their own Arc between the War and Delta rising.)
Why were the Krenim introduced into the "Iconian War" arc?
"The alliance has enjoyed minor victories and suffered major defeats, but they now have a technological advantage they are scrambling to bring into the field."
What? They've been sitting in the Andromedea Galaxy for the past 200k years but only in the past 6 months do they gain this advantage?
With their backs against the wall and the temporal prime directive in mind, the alliance is poised to make an unthinkable decision.
I dont get it. This is the Arc we've been building up to since ... forever. NO RAs? No Battlezone? Patrols? Shuttle Missions? Doff missions????
I fully understand and agree with the criticism leveled against Cryptic, however, wether anyone feels immersed in the war is their own responsibility. Myself, I've been playing the more than 20 mission strong Iconian War Anthology on the Foundry and I can say I'm immersed just fine. I have seen Risa burn, Bajor bombarded, atrocities committed against civilians, have fought epic battles and engaged in crucial diplomatic as well as secret missions.
If you want immersion, just look to the Foundry. And it's not like Cryptic will ever fill all those gaps in the war's narrative with official lore.

Not them. Us.
Wrong. The lack of immersion is on Cryptics head. They were tasked with providing a story. They botched it. They botched it bad. You cant expect people to immerse themselves when everything that has given the player tools to immerse themselves has been tossed out at what could be argued the most important story arc of the game.
The fact that you had to run to that tired and pathetic argument of 'go play foundry if you want immersion' is an indicator that you dont even believe the TRIBBLE you just wrote.
Time will tell. We already know that Franklin Drake is somehow involved so let's wait and see.
Perhaps it's a virus embedded in the iconian gates which drains the energy from the iconians the moment they use it.
Without leadership..
But then again, a stealth mission travelling back in time to warn the preservers and obtain the information required to defeat the iconians is also within the realm of possibilities.

If ESD 3.0 came before a new First City or a Security Officer on New Romulus it would be a travesty!
