The thing though was that the Sovereign was there at STO's launch in 2010 as the standard Lv40 Assault Cruiser. I remember because I dinged Lv40 (level cap at the time of launch era), I promptly bought my Assault Cruiser for 40k EC (oh how times have changed), outfitted it with cheapo Common Mk IX gear, went to PVP, and Beam Overloaded a Hegh'ta BOP and 1-shotted it at 7km
40k EC? picked mine up with the free tokens we got at the time. She was a good ship in those days, refit made her relevant again after the Excelsior hit T5.
Still she was a ship they couldn't leave out at launch, it was the most recent Enterprise chronologically, whatever legal hoops there may have been you can be sure they went through it prior to launch, its just a question of if they need to go through hoops whenever they want to re-release it or not.

Same here, and I still fly my T5U now! It's still the best looking fed ship IMO, I cannot believe after all this time they haven't updated and released a T6! Come on Cryptic get this done!
Its entirely possible a T6 sovvie is taking so long because its still technically the property of Paramount, not CBS. The Sovvie was only ever in movies and has not shown up in the TV shows. Its in the game already because it was the Enterprise, but its likely that Cryptic need to go through a few extra legal hoops since the CBS license doesn't technically cover it.
This probably wouldn't matter if it had a new name and model, like the Regent class, which would match what they've done with all the T6s anyway. However, they might be wanting to update the core model/skin at the same time like they did with the Galaxy(-X), so you could be right.

The way T6 seems to work is that the "new" ship would look different and be called something else. (Ala Galaxy to Andromeda) and then you would have the previous tier skin available. So it would be "The T6 XYZ is based on the Sovereign ... etc, etc, etc" in the text, and would be some new looking design (think Excelsior to Resolute).
So since the Sovereign skin is already in game and already playable and a refit already came out way back when, I don't think legal stuff is in play here at all.
I think the delay is simply due to Crpytic having a list of ships they want to make, and a release schedule based on how often they want to offer new ships in the C-Store. The Sovereign just hasn't fit in yet.
If I had to guess, it might be one of the next ships we'll see, unless they introduce a new ship specialization. If we're unlucky, it will be an stand-alone release like the Excelsior, if we're lucky, it will be in a cross-faction pack also including the Vor'Cha (and whatever ship Cryptic deems fitting for the Romulans).

The Dhelan Retrofit is the only T5 Romulan ship, that has not been released for T6. Even though it is 100 years older, I suspect it may be the third you are speaking of.
I lost hope to see any canon T6 ship any time soon. With the current temporal timey-wimey theme (which I personally find boring) we probably get some more future ships. "Prime" versions of the mirror temporal dreadnaught/timeships. Using the temporal theme for old ships make it to T6 doesn't seem very likely as it's all about the awesome future and their triangular or octaedrical weirdo ships.

The Ha'feh and Ha'nom are also missing so far. (And the Dyson Destroyers, but if they ever get a Tier 6 retrofit, it will certainly not be linked with the Vor'Cha and Excelsior ).

I have been also thinking about it and that could be a great possibility. And as you have already said, given that most of the Enterprise classes ships are already out, Sovereign class is the most appropriate ship for such event.

I think Cryptic is more apprehensive in releasing a T6 Sov with all the reactions on their T6 releases being negative at most. They might do another contest and let the community decide on how the Sov T6 would look like or for anything that we might want to throw at it. But that's just a speculation if they want to be on the safe side.
But even though people are requesting it we do not know if Cryptic still has the rights to make a variant of the Sov since we only hear CBS rights/permission on this forum and none about Paramount's Permission. My best guess would be that the use of the Sov has a limitation or has expired already hence they couldn't make a new variant.
But if it's going to be released I think it will be after they release a new specialization. Well according to what I read the new specialization might come soon a long with... Well... More Temporal ships. Remember I just read it and have no idea if it will be released or not. But they where right about the Flagships being released so I'm not that much skeptical after that.
And lets face it. If a T6 Sov was released today then everything would sky rocket for god how long and with the Dil exchange as it is now I don't think Cryptic would want to add to more things that might push away F2P's anymore since like it or not this F2P's are needed to fill in the servers.
The new movie (Well technically it's old now) didn't exactly boost the player database as far as I know and I doubt people would jump and play this game because of the new upcoming movie. Watching and playing is still a different thing when it comes to each individual person.
Still one can dream that a Sovereign will be released as a T6.
Yeah, intel or pilot maybe since there are still no pilot cruisers, but there are pilot sci vessels.
Don't forget chances are we get a new specialization as well, after all we'll get a .5 season update and we get a general skill overhaul soon. And frankly, the Sovereign fits in neither of the specializations we have atm in my opinion. A Nebula however is a prime intel candidate, I don't get why they didn't release one yet when they gave the Galaxy her makeover.

I don't think that there is a legal restriction on releasing a T6 Sovereign. The Assault Cruiser Refit was released on August 16, 2012. JJ's Star Trek was released in 2009. The decision of what CBS had rights and permission to use was decided around 2009. If the rights for the Sovereign had truly expired, so would have the rights for the Scimitar; as the Scimitar was only seen in Star Trek Nemesis and never on television. The T5 Scimitar was released in May 2013 and since they have just released a T6 Scimitar, the rights and permission have not changed.

While the Assault Cruiser Refit (Regent) came out in 2012, the Sovereign-class itself was among the skins of the Lv40 Assault Cruiser when the game launched in 2010.

I understand that the Odyssey is of course going to be the main flagship, but the Sovereign with its tactical bias is a very attractive prospect. The Imperial skin for the Sov, while not the prettiest, is certainly the most badass-looking variant- I would love a T6 version. It should have at least 4 tac consoles (5 for the fleet version), or 5 forward weapon mounts. This would distinguish it from all other Fed cruisers.

You can pretty much guarantee a T6 Sovereign/Assault Cruiser will not have 5 forward weapons. 4 TAC Consoles, for sure, but not 5 fwd weapons. None of the ships that have been converted from a lower tier into T6 have had such a drastic change in setup. T6 conversions tend to be a "natural evolution" of that ship into T6. You can look at a few of these converted ships from T5->T6 and see the change isn't that drastic. The real changes, improvements are in the BOFF layouts.
I'd really like to see a nice T6 Sovvy version. Maybe if it looked like this draft for one of the intel ships...
It's very similar to it, and very FED style. Would love if it had a Lt.Cmdr Univ/Univ Spec (I'd go for Intel, Override Subsytem Safeties III is pure gold to me); so we could fit in anything we wanted. And the rest basically like every T5 ship upgraded to T6...

Assimilated Assault Cruiser [T6] (Gold, 66 Engineering, 49 Tactical, 20 Science, +20 ENG per Any Ship)
...could that be a hint that a T6 Assault Cruiser is on the way...?
No. Since there is no T6 Rhode Island/Nova, despite the Admiralty card having existed since Admiralty was introduced (given upon reaching level 10), it isn't safe to assume that Admiralty card for unreleased ship = C-store version of same ship.
Have to agree with you here.
We've had the Rhode Island card for months and no sign of a T6 version of that ship. I think there is a chance we'll get a T6 Sovie at some point but it's far from guaranteed.
But it's still disappointing to me at least that we have several true canon Fed ships that have been in-game at low ranks but that still haven't made it to T6:
Nova/Rhode Island - it's in Voyager and heck it even appears in-game as a hero ship flown by Harry Kim!
Sovereign - obviously....
Olympic Class - seem in the same episode as the Gal-X but gets barely any attention, it could be a refreshing addition as a science ship.
Luna Class - (semi-canon admittedly) would be another great option for a T6 science ship.
Nebula Class - come of Cryptic, this is one of the most commonly seem Fed ships in the films and shows but yet still no T6 version!!!!
