Considering how it already had about 3 years of production and post production time, it does make you wonder where all that went...
And as far as it only being a browser base like BSG because of the numbers...
well I don't recall too many people knowing what the hell w a r craft was until world of w a r craft came out...
since SG is more explore/shooter/easily set up for multi faction pvp, it is highly likely it would have had a huge amount of people playing regardless if they were fans are not.
Id rather have a good Stargate MMO then what we got here, I cant seem to find the 8th or 9th chevrons on these iconian gates still....
*edit, seriously? that was bleeped automatically...talking about a paranoid company.
Well worth pointing out. Unfortunately, they're unlikely to be able to post a significant offense (or defense for that matter) against the heirs of Asgardian technology. Hence my suggestion of an outside group that brings new discoveries with them. But I'd be onboard should someone create a reasonable excuse for local snakeheads getting the tech needed to stand against the Tauri.
Well, some Goa'uld are less evil than others, and unlike the Borg, the Goa'uld actually invented a lot of stuff. So if a Goa'uld did get their hands on advanced tech they might use it in ways it's creators never intended, or even combine it with a different tech to make something new.
Like the Sarcophagus.... It's actually a Goa'uld invention. It's based on Ancient tech, but it's not a creation of the Ancients.
So if a Goa'uld was to salvage Replicator tech.... They might learn something interesting, even from a non-functional Replicator.
EDIT: It seems that at least one Goa'uld queen survived Ba'al and Anubis's idiocy. Morrigan
Well the Stargate is getting rebooted. People saying this is a bad thing, but I never cared about the Ancients. It was Ra who created the Stargate in the original movie. Anyways it be nice to see Goa'uld/Ra and Egyptian alien technology coming back, quite excited.
It's billion times better than that SGU (Stargate Universe) abomination.
The problem is humans became too overpowered after the series, advanced Ancient tech, all Asgard tech including freaking replicators, plasma beams that pretty much destroy every other type ship in a couple of shots and a wormhole drive which is basically an Iconian gateway.
Hell, they had to make the setting of ST:U a ship with outdated systems and limited resources for that reason.

Forum rules state that if a thread hasn't been posted in for 1 month... its dead and better to start a new thread. So basically... anything over 30 days is necromancy territory.
I was always wondering why there aren't SG based MMO out already, but this topic answered my question. I can remember now that I was playing that SG game on Sega, and 2 or 3 years ago I have also try to find some newer SG game, but to my disappointment found out that all of them were cancelled. It is really sad and confusing how can a setting for MMO like SG end up being a failure. There are endless possibilities in SG Universe and I'm hoping someone will restart that project in the future. Hell, if I ever get outrageously rich, I'll try to do it. Same thing applies for Babylon 5 and Farscape. Those two could also yield great MMO games.
However, do not let your hopes down so soon, because just a few days ago a campaign for reviving SG Universe on Netflix has been started and if that succeeds I'm hoping someone might try to also revive SG MMO creation.

Oh the hypocrisy is strong in here. So it's a dead forum, seemingly the only ones it attracts are moaners and whiners that pass on the 'Rules of Conduct'. I'd say the same thing for several threads, yet they are still being used regardless of the fact they are not on topic or related at all to the original post. Nor does it compel me to comment on threads that I have no interest in, while telling off fellow members.
Creating a new thread of a similar name would probably get frowned upon (notably by the same individuals that created drama in this one).
If you're still not satisfied, you have number of options:
1: Flag my first post and get it removed.
2: Ask a moderator to close the thread.
3: Do not post. It's plain as day you're contributing nothing, but being know it all.
4: Ask me to create a new thread, instead of continuing to point fingers at me.
Thank you to the ones that actually didn't make a fuss over a old thread being used.

I think most of them failed because the studio creating them went bankrupt, due to poor management and fraud. Ex-employees left the studio and founded a new one, taking some of the assets and equipment to make Stargate Resistance to help raise money. Ceo from CME started to sue it's mirror company and you kind of know the rest.
Stargate Unleashed is there, but it's mobile game.
What do you mean by reviving on Netflix? You mean continue the series? I am kind of glad that it ended, it lets Roland get the licence back and it might get steered away from the wrong direction the show was heading for.

Eh, SGU can walk off a cliff for all I care. Not only did it bring itself down, but it also took any planned or unplanned SG-1/SGA content along with it. On the other hand, if that abomination is brought back to life... maybe it'll keep dragging the rest of the universe?

Honestly, between Stargate and Independence Day, one has to wonder why Emmerich is revisiting his previous successes after twenty years. One must also question his wisdom in taking a well-established franchise like Stargate and dumping it in the trashbin. Abrams and Disney, respectively, could afford to do it because Star Trek and Star Wars are famous enough to attract attention even if they alienate a good deal of their fans.
Stargate's big, but it's not that big, nor do I expect it'll get the chance after Universe. (Besides which, from what I understand, fan outcry over Atlantis' cancellation had some part in Universe's low success rate - it wasn't just the series itself that was responsible for its failure, but the context as well.)

I don't hunt for Necro Posts to point fingers. I was just letting you know for future reference based on your post count. Others might rant and rave, but I don't.
Also... its the weekend. Forum Mods and Trendy take weekends off so things get a little more interesting.
Now if it was someone else with a larger post count I might call Necromancy for some fun. But newer people I don't do that.

On the contrary, I never asked for nicknames, or crude remarks to be directed towards me. I've been pretty civil up to this point. But please go ahead and keep aggravating the situation. Or you can take your own advice and stop bringing this up.
You ever heard the phrase: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all? Uh, yeah that kind of applies now. It's been already established you and your friends don't want the thread to continue, so be nice and stop derailing.

Well he couldn't exactly make anything Stargate related if MGM has the license, can he? He has stated on numerous occasions he wanted to revisit the franchise. MGM decided to make SGU. It failed to capture the new edgy audience it thought it would capture.
"'SGU' seems to be a love it or hate it sort of show. You obviously fall in the latter camp, but fortunately there are enough viewers and reviewers who think 'SGU' is neither boring, poorly plotted, or sexist to keep us on the air long after 'V' is just a letter in the alphabet again." - Brad Wright
He goes on to insult Stargate fans that they are not cable of understanding the shows new direction. He states that he doesn't need Stargate, SG-1, SGA fans to make SGU successful.
“I don’t think if we for any reason go away, it is an issue necessarily of the quality of the product that we’ve been making. And the fact that some of the fans that liked SG-1 and Atlantis were so angry that they have deliberately hurt us, which is unfortunate.” -Brad Wright.
Then he blames the old fans for the horrible show for failing. Anyone else see the irony?
MGM had no problem alienating it's base audience, changing the theme of Stargate to something unrelated for the chance of BSG popularity. And you think the original director is going to trash the franchise? Before Stargate became successful a lot of people, including the investors thought the movie would be a huge disaster. They sold it to MGM on that sole reason. It proved them all wrong.
MGM is struggling to make a profit, it's close to bankruptcy. Now they have partnered up with Warner Bros and managed to get the old directors and writers to make the new films. It's a lot better than sulking and letting the franchise fall into obscurity.
Stargate needs this reboot, otherwise it is dead for both new and old fans.

SG:U felt WAY too much like Battlestar Galactica with a Stargate. It was starting to get better near the end, but it was too late by that time.
The problem with SG:U is that it threw away the magic formula that made SG-1 and Atlantis so successful, using humor to break up the drama. SG-1 and Atlantis were serious shows, but they didn't shy away from using humor to break the tension. SG:U... was almost constant drama, drama, drama, with NOTHING to break it up.
And before you brush off Stargate, consider that there are fans out there who will keep it alive. Babylon 5 hasn't really had anything new since they tried Legend of the Rangers, which was a bit of a mixed bag, but the fanbase is still very much alive. Another example is the game series Wing Commander. NOTHING new has been made since Wing Commander Prophecy: Secret Ops back in the late 90s, yet the fanbase is still very much alive and making fan projects and keeping the franchise alive.

Well it seems it's the only thing you're currently interested in, certainty not anything to do with the topic. I think you and dalolorn are quite finished.
Unless you intend to escalate it further, I suggest you drop it. Because I can assure you, if someone has the need to mention it again, I will take it directly to moderator once they get back from their holidays.

I had already given my opinion on the topic long ago. And I have no intention of escalating anything. The only thing I wanted to do was give you a heads up for the future. That's it.
On topic: I agree with everything you said about SGU, and Stargate. I forced myself to get into it, but it never once reminded me anything about the show. They also broke some of the rules about the gate, when Eli put his arm into the gate to stop it from deactivating. The second episode of SG-1 has a similar moment when Teal'c kills Kowalski by holding his head partially inside the Stargate horizon.
It broke my immersion and made me want to stop watching, not to mention the unnecessary sex scenes in almost every episode that brought nothing to the story or development to the characters.

Actually... it wasn't the first time that an arm in a gate kept it from closing. There was an episode of SG-1 where O'Neill helped track down some bad guys for the Asgard, and he kept the Earth Gate open by leaving his arm in it until they all came through.
Also... in Ep 2 of SG-1, they manually shut down the gate from the control room. Normally the gate would have stayed open until the traveler went through.

It was precisely because MGM had no problem alienating its audience that Stargate fell apart in the first place. Even so, I'm fairly sure a lot of fans would jump at a continuation of Atlantis - they shot the franchise in the foot not so much by making a mistake, but by making a mistake they didn't have the budget to start fixing.

The magic formula is definitely the best part. One might conceivably lose it without the humor. Go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of one's faculties, three fries short of a happy meal... WACKO!
Anyway, I didn't brush off anything. For any part of my post to be construed as 'brushing off', one would have to assume that I'm speaking from experience as an ex-fan who was so traumatized by Universe that they gave up on the franchise altogether. I am not - but I did give Universe a wide berth, and it's the combination of Stargate's relative obscurity and the ST/SW approach that worries me. As was proven by Universe, there's less room for error, and alienating the fanbase with such a thorough purge of canon seems like a dangerous maneuver.

They really should hire Obsidian to make the game, or some studio that won't end up going bankrupt.
I think I'd like Bioware to take a shot at it. They're one of the best IMO when it comes to story. KoTOR, Sonic Chronicles, and Mass Effect being examples. Granted those games are RPGs, but still. I can see a Mass Effect style game set in Stargate.

Bioware is kind of overrated, and they are not really the same people that made Kotor (most left). And I really don't like the silly three option wheel cinematic people hype over. I like the traditional script options, that way it isn't dummified.
i can't stand the dialogue wheel either - in ANY game; mainly because what you see in the choices ISN"T what your character ends up saying, or they say it in a totally different tone than expected

Its more the story than the interface that I'm interested in. I want a company that can do a good story, and in my experience Bioware is one of them that doesn't skimp on story.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
It broke my immersion and made me want to stop watching, not to mention the unnecessary sex scenes in almost every episode that brought nothing to the story or development to the characters.
Also... in Ep 2 of SG-1, they manually shut down the gate from the control room.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Looks like even Osiris fell victim.
Seems like Stargate theme games are doomed where ever you go.

After SWTOR, it left a bad taste in my mouth.
