    Qapla'!

About the feathering..it's not really how I planned on it turning out at all - I wanted something along the lines of the Pilot Warbirds or Scimitar, but my wrist decided it didn't want to play at all!

Those sound like reasonable suggestions if we want to see anything resembling these beauties at all anytime soon! EDIT: I've changed the BOff stations ever so slightly..I'm thinking of letting the devs decide on what they want the Uni-Spec station to be, although I wouldn't hold my breath. ;)

Hmm, it occurs to me that the KDF variant you've got here would make an excellent ship for my Delta Recruit! (A KDF Sci)

I would definately like to fly around in a proper T6 carrier! I like the Sarr Theln but it doesn't belong to any specific faction and I'd like to fly something closer to the faction I'm playing as...

A great big NO WAY for me. While I would not mind a true tier 6 carrier, you are NOT putting enough teeth in the hanger pets for one. Frigates or escorts are the ONLY way to go, no sissy shuttles or swarmers. Next the Klingons already have 2 carriers, so why should they get a third? Romulins are OK, I'd let them have a carrier, but really we NEED a carrier that is Federation Only, even if it is only t5u. Some of the other ideas are not too bad EXCEPT a Fed carrier should be at least 4 (using dual cannons) foward and min. 3 aft weapons. Let us not forget all of the ships and lives lost against the Iconians. We need something to even the odds in our favor and a carrier with some real teeth should fit the bill.

4/3? C'mon man, a carrier let's the fighters do the work. So really, fighter pets and the mechanics for those need attention, not the ship itself.

One simple upgrade I wouldn't mind for a t6 Atrox would be the ability to launch Stalker's under MES. That would fit with the stealth theme they have. They could probably adapt the enhanced battle cloak mechanic to use for the fighter launches.

The only problem with a 4/3 carrier is that the only 4/3 'full carriers' (2 hangars) in existance are Lockbox/Lobi ships, ie. P2W ships.

All the Factional Carriers are 3/3, as they should be (my opinion), a ship doesn't need 7-8 weapons to kick #$@ and carriers need the additional firepower even less.

I do agree that the Federation (and Republic) need their own 'in house designed' carriers, the Atrox is nice, but it's not Starfleet, and the Republic has even less for carriers just the Scimitar (1 hangar, not a full carrier) and the Ar'kif (also 1 hangar, not a full carrier).

Cryptic should really look at this thread and realize that many of us carrier captains want/need a proper factional T6 full carrier.

As for shuttles/fighters, yeah they do suck, I think they have low health because they are suppose to be hard to hit in combat, though with BFAW nearly always hitting its target that's not the case. Their general firepower also makes them somewhat of a silly choice for a carrier that can handle frigate pets, as even 2 full hangars of fighters can barely keep up with a single hangar of frigates. Fighters and Shuttles really need a balance overhaul to make them effective, or at least less laughable of a choice for carrier captains.

1- The Klingons were the original users of the carriers in STO; as to why they should get another it was to ensure they wouldn't get left behind - they may have more carriers than the other factions put together, but neither of those carriers are already T6 (which is what these are).

2- In regards to the fighters, yes the hangar mechanics and fighter pet AI needs a drastic overhaul in order to make them anywhere near useful..but as @cmdrscarlet already pointed out, carriers let the pets do most of the work, thus they don't need the forward-oriented loadouts that dreadnought carriers have.

3- About "Evening the Odds", I'm going to assume that you don't have the Xindi-Insectoid Carrier from the last lock box - if you have the advanced Castroi fighters they deal some pretty mean damage by themselves, but the real pack-a-punch comes from the Olaen itself (being an Escort Carrier which the subjects of this thread are not).

Unless they actually want to pull out something like the Jupiter and make it playable, I think if there ever is a Federation Tier 6 Carrier, it is likely to be based on the Atrox.

That would have the benefit of players being able to actually customize that ship more than what is currently possible.

Here's another idea, same 3/3 weapon load out but 3 hangers now only one is full so both frigs or fighters the other two, either one frigs slotted or two for fighters. Call it a heavy carrier.
The other is basically a jemmy carrier/ dread ,4/3 weapons and standard hangers, call the assault carriers.

We also a new range of heavy fighter/frigs carrier pets on par with the newer ones releashed for the newer lobi/lock box ship for the fed/KDF.

With the news that a Tier 6 Fed (and hopefully a KDF and RR) carrier is on the way, I think it's safe to retire this now-necro'd thread. On that note, personally I'll go for the Epsilon design but I hope there's opportunity to combine designs somewhat.

Alpha or NOTHING! Epsilon is good too.
Omega or Nothing. It's the one that looks most inspired by the Jupiter.

I'd imagine that each of them has their individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as a following of some sort.

I've had a second look at Epsilon and (now that I'm more awake) decided that it looks a little stubby to be a carrier - still good, but I'm shifting towards the Alpha/Gamma designs.

Omega looks like it could be the "better" carrier design in terms of utility, but I guess we'll see what folks will vote for later on today.

We shall see through the vote. But if Alpha wins, then I called it :)

I could see Alpha going head-to-head with Gamma, and Epsilon (or Theta) going against Omega..from some of the comments on the polls, folks are just basing their Omega prediction on the obvious hangars and the apparent size of it (that and the Jupiter didn't get all the love it deserved as an NPC Dreadnought).

Who's to say that all the ships won't be scaled similarly? As far as I'm aware, only the shipbuilders have that power. Other than that, I don't have much of a gripe about this contest...apart from some people not seeing the subtle changes in Starfleet design (Intrepid, Norway, Yeager, and Sovereign) over the course of the 24th Century, and thinking that round saucers will be around forever (they appear to make a comeback with the Ent-J, but that's next century..and there wasn't enough of the ship to see in "Azati Prime").

I think they might have some sort of use in quantum slipstream, since the original Dauntless had a rather angular saucer section which might have allowed it to achieve and maintain higher maximum velocities whilst travelling in QS; Voyager on the other hand almost burnt up(?) trying to get to the Dauntless.

Sorry for that rant, this is unfortunately what this thread has been reduced to..my own rant space (all others invited).

@pwlaughingtrendy, would you mind locking this thread after the winning carrier design has been announced? As far as I'm concerned, it's served it's purpose and isn't doing any favours by staying open waiting to be necro'd.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not looking forward to hearing the results on the Carrier Design poll..although it's close now, it could end up being that Alpha ends up with ~30% of the votes and Omega ~70% (obviously not as dramatic as that, but you probably get my drift).
