I'm going to assume you're in the industry, or know someone in the industry. Decent and polite is effectively silent. Decent and polite is unlikely to generate the level of attention necessary to prompt change.

If that means I'll never get to be buddy buddy with a dev I don't know IRL, whatever; I don't live to brown-nose devs. And, it's worked for me in prompting change in several MMOs, including the behemoth.

In space it could double as a ev suit or protect against NBC threats....Aid in movement in space or underwater..........It could have tools installed like the welder torch like in Aliens

It can also serve as threat or intimidation with a mask or spikes Or even show off status rank decorations

For your information, I am a 3D model designer along with other things. As a 3D modeler I sure as heck know the unlimited amazing things with visualization that can be done for this game for the new items that are added. This fact that I know about 3D models and have ideas for it and at least standard common sense that can be added to it make me even more furious. I can very well easily create far more impressive 3D models for this game then anyone in the Development area of it, designs for Star Trek is common sense > STAR TREK. Not Tron, or Warhammer, or Firefall, or Call Of Duty or Halo!

Why did the Samsar get such positive likes?.. Because it actually made sense!
    1. It is a ship of Kobali.
    2. Not many ships of Kobali is known.
    3. It is an original design.
    4. It actually makes you want to get it.
    5. It looks totally different from everything else in the game.
    6. The ship can be of original design because Kobali is a race that is really not all that brought out so much.

I can sit here and tell you all the flaws the new T6 ships which include the new FED ships and KDF ships, at least the ROMs got nice ships, it goes with what they are "Warbirds" - the ship look like what?.. Birds. Now we got the FEDs, the same old HUGE round saucer and long sperm-like hull doesn't always make the ship Federation. And the KDF just look like lego blocks snapped together. You don't have to be a 3D modeler/designer, just from looking at it alone you can tell > This was placed on here rushed and to get this over with.

So back to the main point - the point is not how creative you are, the point is actually GETTING the job. And judging by all these ships and outfits that look just horrid and on top of that scream "This will do" - it is obvious they aren't looking for talent, they are looking for people that just stick together TRIBBLE from things already in the game instead of making fully original content.

People are mad for a reason, people are calling them out for a reason.
It doesn't matter how they do it, the point is that it is being done - and each new thing done to the game is just worse and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it other then EXPLODE like many have done already... Thus, typing the offensive way they do.

So take your "adult" acting ways somewhere else, because some people and things just don't deserve it.
    Cross, strikeout, period, final.

OOOOOOOOOOH SNAP! valoreah just got TOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLD!!!

I think they're speaking your language. Also, your avatar...I have seen that pic on Deviant Art. The full size version, that is.

I'd have to say, since you do either visit that site or submit to it your own art, you should provide the new art team with examples of how a Trek armor looks to you, in your mind.

I have some examples I'd like to put forward. Yes they are old but I like them, and others here might too. Here is the link to get anyone who follows it started:

I have one question for the devs: whatever happened to the reputation armor?????? Its just been on a downhill slide. You have Omega which has GREAT armor that we continue to love to this day and its the OLDEST rep out there. You have Nukara which is good, I don't do it much but its alright. You have New Romulus which is a replacement to the RSE rep and it has crappy ship visuals and it lacks a ground set. You have Dyson which I consider to have the last good armor visuals. Undine which I think looks pretty sleek. Delta whose costume lacks a helmet against the Vaadwaur bombs and Im not really a fan of. And now Iconian which looks just plain STUPID.

What I want is ARMOR, real ARMOR, look at the MACO one, thats real badass ARMOR right there. Or Omega Force: REAL, TRUE, BADASS, WELL MADE, ARMOR. Thats the oldest rep. Now you have the Iconian rep: I dont know what would look better on me: the Iconian rep armor or the Club wear? They both look similar.

So please cryptic do me a favor: fire whoever made the Iconian rep armor and the command ships and bring in an ARTIST. please

P.S: You can see my sig for my favorite aromor

For that matter we don't have lances for blowing up tanks...
Now I'm curious as to how hard those (and other) hairstyles would be to add to the game. As for lances... I was surprised they retained that form factor, as opposed to resembling bazookas/panzerschreks (with 'lance' hanging on as a slang term)... but that's a discussion for elsewhere.

To be fair, the writers for the actual episodes could be said to have lost track of this too. Still, the design team here has given us better, so accusations of backsliding would be fair.
In space it could double as a ev suit or protect against NBC threats....Aid in movement in space or underwater..........It could have tools installed like the welder torch like in Aliens
Which raises a related question: shouldn't the MACO armor count as an EV/NBC suit?
It can also serve as threat or intimidation with a mask or spikes Or even show off status rank decorations
Which, as I recalll, the KHG regalia does well. As for variants that show off rank/status... those, sadly, fell victim to the current removal of their associated elite-difficulty ground STFs,

After looking at the posts for the Rep and the Intel file for the Heralds it looks like 1970's disco for Metropolis meets the Chaos Space Marines, unfortunately this is the problem when you try to introduce new items into a long running MMO in that in one way shape or form everything has been done!

The specs of the new rep look quite good, but there is no way in blue Hades am I going to enable the visuals given the chance!!!

You're still not getting it. It has nothing to do with brown nosing or kissing up to the Devs. It has to do with treating other people with respect, regardless of who they are.

I'd agree with that. I'd also point out that there are ways of expressing extreme dissatisfaction that don't involve bashing the Dev team and don't run afoul of forum rules.

"I don't like it because... {reasons in stark detail}. I'd never grind for it."

      Is a lot different from:

"OMG! That's ****!!! The Devs are {insert random insult here} and those look like {insert vulgarity here}. The local village idiot could do a better job! I'm quitting STO now!"

They both get a little Dev attention, but the second version is the one that allows a person to file it away as "just another troll" and ignore it.

The first version has the advantage of sinking in faster when a lot of players are saying the same thing. THAT is what gets Dev attention. Overwhelming response, not overblown responses.

There is not one single, solitary design element in these entire outfits that says "Star Trek" to me. It looks like Commander Shepard met Tron, took a bunch of LSD, and sat down to collaborate on a bathing suit for use on Europa.

Actually, if you really want to see the inspiration from this, its def Mass Effect, more specifically, it is EDI's armor style with very very slight modifications. In fact id rather have hers because the colors are more subdued with more stylized yet subtle line features in the costume.

I mean, I can go on forever posting nice starships that can be in this game, doesn't have to be done by me. There ae people out there that do a heck of a better job and charge even less. Heck, most of the pictures I linked are probably freelance 3D modelers trying to get by, while PWE got their own 3D modeling team that probably get paid even less then what these people who created these great ships get paid for a commission job.

      When you are a 3D modeler of a company you are one of 3 things;
      1. Dedicated to making something really original and great - which lets you know people will love.
      2. Make the first thing that comes to mind blindly because you know you are going to get paid anyway.
      3. Make whatever just to finish up fast and get your payment in and the job done.

I'm going with the 3D modeling team for STO going for #2.

      And I will say another thing;
This "armor" is supposedly the next reputation gear we need to get. We need to work to get this gear that is coming up, what the heck would I want to work for something that just looks... Ugly? We are supposed to be made to play the game and get things that are nice - not play the game because we don't have no other choice.
      This armor isn't nice.
The new T6 KDF + FED ships isn't nice.

In fact, imagine when we get T7 ships, and every single ship is just plain ugly, T5 are obsolete supposedly now because they are just dropped down on the Tier already - so now you find yourself having to work up to get a ship that you know you don't even want but you have no option but to get because it is the "next best thing".

      When something new comes out and you have people looking at it... If you are playing Star Trek and your expression to the new items added are;
      A. What the heck am I looking at... Are these people serious - that doesn't even look like Star Trek...

      There is a problem.

Now, if you sit back and:
      B. Wow, that is real nice, that looks like something seriously fit for a FED/ROM/KDF captain just like me.. I really, really want that!

Then you are onto something, and you will see people working their asses off for it. I seriously just don't understand why companies just cant be more original.

Hell, 90% of the ships in the game aren't even in the Star Trek series and made imaginary for the game alone to begin with!

at first, i thought they were just trying to rip off EDI from mass effect, but no... this is more like they're ripping off a syfy channel ripoff of the actual ripoff of EDI from mass effect.

As if we needed proof (any, not more) that Cryptic was out of touch / didn't care any more. The Club gear was bad, but at least it was free. This stuff just looks terrible. If my team brought this to me as a final version, I would just open it up to the fans/players to design.

Champions did that and churned out three of the best costume sets in years. This though, just isn't good. Especially after seeing what cool pieces Taris and the heralds are wearing.

The bodysuit is fine for people that like bodysuit like costumes.

      BUT

They should add some stuff in there like some belts and maybe a tactical vest. Not belts as big and bulky as the ones on the MACO gear set, but something similar only slimmer and smaller. Like i included a pic of an IRL tactical mesh vest (pic #1). Make something like that that is form fitting and goes over the bodysuit. You can trim away some of the mesh portion in the back and front and make the pouches on the vest as small/slim as they need to be for Trek. Another option would be to add a form of "Load Bearing Equipment" (pic #2). The buckle, fasteners and shoulder pads can be changed to be more Trek-like. But the belt can hold the pouches, grenades and tricorders and whatnot. And smaller pouches can be added to the shoulderpads too if needed. Whatever you do make it an OPTION and allow people to turn them off and on at the appearance/costume guy. That way they can go with the regular bodysuit look or a more tactical looking bodysuit.

Also i dont know if the helm has been finalized, but i think its a bit too big and bulky. Maybe make it so that it isnt as thick? so that it is closer to the skin? Maybe reduce its overall size just a tiiiiiiiiny bit too. I'm guessing that its an open air helmet for a reason. Maybe so that people can still look at their hair and stuff i dunno. And even though we have touch-to-activate communicators maybe put a single and short mic boom on there too attached to one of the earmuffs?
