I of course knew that it was a joke... I simply clicked to read the number of outrage posts that I knew would be posted. To me, that is the best part of the joke... shows how many people here have an overwhelming sense of entitlement and think the game revolves around them specifically.
Right now, the game is far superior to what we had back in Season 1.X. Yes it has bugs, yes it has issues... but it has come a long ways. I hope that the game continues to evolve and that Cryptic/PWE finally finds a balance between greed/profit and playability.

It's currently downloading which is taking longer because this is NOT a patch.. It's downloading STO 1.0 And I have my original STO install DVD-ROM.. size it about right. (its flat impossible to patch off a current build folks.. too many core code changes..so, fresh install of the original game)
The joke is.. it may not be a joke...
And yes, be prepared to have hostile contacts CHASE YOU DOWN in sector space..... carefull of the PvP.. the first folks to unlock KDF toons are going to be horrifying dangerous folk.. because this is PRE_BOP NERF STO...
and of course a bunch of other odds and ends.. Not to mention that horridly retro ESD..
I wonder.. is the original captains table back with its now missing vendors? We shall see!
And trendy, just to let you know that most of the most of the people that I know will enjoy this thoroughly.
And if we notice bugs or problems, and we file a bug report on the server, will we get listened to? Seems to me like a good idea for Cryptic to listen to what the players are complaining about and find the problems that need fixed. So long as the fixes get taken to holodeck, since bug reports from tribble server have been ignored.
thats a thought.. maybe, just maybe some of the old nasty bugs hidden down deep in the code that are still with us can be dug up and killed at long last.. might be an additional method to the madness..
I am giddy with excitement that we could start fresh and find the problems and stop them out as long as fixes ACTUALLY GO LIVE TO THE HOLODECK SERVER, which tribble was intended for but never actually used.
I remember way back then we didn't have enough story missions to hit the level cap so we had to go grind and...
Oh wait.
Hehe, I remember trying to speed level before F2P. I actually DID run out of story missions before I finished the Klingon War arc. After F2P, Speed leveling became a trivial task.
Only other question I've got is if it is true that the holodeck server is going to get shut down, what about all the Zen we've spent? Will the items and everything we've purchased over the years be transferred? If not, then a full refund, or it will be a very bad joke.
Ok, if this really isn't some kind of practical joke I'm getting concerned about the following excerpt from the Dev Blog:

What does this mean for Holodeck, is it going to be shut down or reset in the near future? If so, what does that mean for all the current characters currently on Holodeck? Do they just disappear or do they lose everything that didn't exist in STO 1.0?
Is it taking anyone long to patch the game to its original condition on Redshirt. Im at 3% lol, should it be patching slow or is there anyway to make it faster? at this rate I will be here until my next birthday lol

Your not going to be x-fering any toon to red shirt.. to many changes in the character files since launch. SO be prepared to create a new toon under the old nasty original rules.

KDF play is an unlock.. I think at level 20 or so.. its been a very long time.
PvP is against the other faction period..
Prepurchase stuff, special edition stuff should be there.. a lot of ships will not be. No T5U..no T6
You'll get a free ship token at rank up... this is pre dilithium.. extra ship cost EC.

They may have thrown in the exploration stuff or maybe not..if we do the early crafting system will be there to. Crafting is done at memory alpha.. mats are gathered pretty much everywhere.
Many things will not be obvious... use yer eyes, use yer map.. AND READ THE MISSION COPY.. there are hints.. and many of the missions you see are still in sto, but are no longer part of level progression.
