I only managed to play a couple of hours.
hopefully there will be enough positive response from it to get them to bring it around as an event from time to time on a semi regular basis i kinda pulled for it to be a permanent shard at first... but on mature consideration after the novelty wore off (aside from maybe the pvp players if you beleive them) it would probably be a ghost town.. but as a rotating event? probably be pretty popular my opinion others can feel free to disagree

It was fun while it lasted, I suppose... but no, I'm not over this. Bring it back!!
What would be cool is if they released it as a stand alone single player game. No multiplayer support, just release it for archival purposes to showcase the game when it was in it's infancy.
I wish I could have played it for a bit longer though, I only managed to get past the tutorial part.

While I had no actual interest to do this and play this version of the game and while I pretty much knew that this thing wouldn't be permanent since it would make no sense - I have to agree that it's really poor form for Cryptic to hook people into downloading 10GB (or whatever the size was) patch, only to take it down almost immediately and have people that didn't even get to play after downloading it.
They could've left it for a week or at least few days for people to catch up with their nostalgia. Hooking people to download a huge patch which would be removed the same day is, in the lack of better words, pretty dumb. They'd done better to leave it completely as a joke and not have all those dissapointed and aggrivated people that downloaded a patch for nothing now.
What cryptic just did from a PvPers point of view:
Imagine you are a little boy who is disabled and cannot walk. You don't have cloths and nothing to eat. You're doomed to dwell in a dark pit that you cannot leave on you own.
For many years, you've been telling your parents that you would love to have some warm cloths, something to eat, some light and a way to leave the pit or at least be able to move a bit on your own. But your parents keep on telling you that they can't afford helping you and nothing ever happened, and it's getting worse and worse and worse...
Then suddenly one day, on april 1st, your parents show up and they bring you:
- some warm cloths, 2nd hand and slightly worn down - but still better than nothing
- some cheap rice to cook - nothin special, but still better than nothing
- some candles to light up the place - not many, but it's at least some light
- and finally even a wheelchair - an old one, but still it will improve your life a lot!
You enjoy these things all day long and think to yourself: "Hey, life could be worse, I'm finally starting to smile again and have some fun!"
On April 2nd, your parents visit you again and tell you: "HAHA, april fool! You cannot keep any of those things!" And then they start burning all the stuff to ashes and walk away leaving you hungry in that dark and cold pit.
And that's what cryptic just did!
If the launch build wasn't actually on the server. It just would have been a bad joke. But it was there, they were proving that what lot's of people hope for is possible. But they didn't do that to make us happy, they only did it to laugh at us and to show us what we cannot have!
Yeah, I enjoyed what little time I got to be nostalgic on the server. Though I must say, it's a poor show that they didn't tell people it was gone again so there were many people wasting their bandwidth allowance on downloading a 10GB patch for no reason what so ever.

True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!
This was really an upsetting joke... For the first time in a long time, I was actually excited to patch STO on redshirt, but by the time I saw the news article, redshirt had been reverted to the full holodeck build.

I don't do pvp matches anymore because there aren't any, and all I do is grind my ship to keep it updated in the sheer hope that you will make some changes that will bring pvp back to a balanced state and I can again have fun playing STO.
But if you think I care about the grinding, or the delta recruit, or new reps, or the crafting to epic, then perhaps you need to get to know the player fan base that has left this game, but still checks back just in the hope that you actually truly mean your April Fool's joke.
Please, for the love of all that is holy, give us a PvP only server starting at season 4 or 5, and make it a PvP centric server!

Ok, both posts from the producers caused sheer panic for possibly so it would be nice if someone would explain if we are losing our characters and ships if the Holodeck server is shut down. I may be the only one who does not understand, but I don't want to lose all of my stuff. The way I understand it is that we well be reverted back to the beginning of the game, like the last 5 years didn't even occur.
Can some one explain this a little better than the dev's did, or is it a true April Fool's joke, because I don't like those. :mad:
Will we get to transfer over unspent zen? or do we lose everything. some people put alot of cash into the game, some just a little. do we get compinsated for that, or is every thing just lost?
so we all went on and downloaded the patch on the 2nd and it change nothing?
but what about the time travel thing and we are to do the missions again, but this time we are to locate iconian tech for the future fight with the iconian but what's the end game with the new characters we made how does the story end now, do we get it all the tech and start again were we left off? what's the end objective? any help guys
this threads about a patch they did on the first to redshirt where they took the server back to day one not the delta recruit time traveling storyline all your thingymuffins on holodeck are perfectly safe
this was the devs april fools and a lot of us old timers wish it had been less foolish... for myself i think perhaps the devs weren't quite prepared for how much positive response this was going to get remember they put this up literally the day before they launched a major event on the main server how many people would have dropped out of that event just to play around in nostalgiaville? i don't have the numbers obviously but they might have been worried they created a monster i would say that for now the best thing to do is chill out wait for the delta recruit event to end.... and then get on their cases to bring rebirth back to us!
