So I just played this up through the Azura mission, and dang. It's super rough, and the current Holodeck game is so much better at least PvE-wise, but I am having so much nostalgia here. It was great to play the old tutorial again. Now I'm super excited about revisiting the exploration clusters; won't be long now before I get to level 4 (or is it 5?) and the old Delta Volanis cluster unlocks.
Cryptic, please please PLEASE leave this up.
ETA: Cluster unlocks at level 3! Woohoo, off to go exploring~
Thing is... This is an April Fools but if you were serious I would actually be happy. It was a simpler time and the game was more fun. It was more visceral, more engaging. Sure it was scruffy looking and lacked content, but it was a better 'game'...
In my opinion this is a little bit of a backfire.
Agreed.
The reason this "joke" works is because if you polled the people who were round then, that is if you could find them since most have left the game, they would find a majority in support.
Go for it.... seriously, go for it. I'd spend money once again, for that
So, upon finding out that part of this joke was, in fact, true, if temporary, I had to go the extra step and download another ten gigs to see for myself!
I have to say, I appreciated this, it not only gives me a chance to see the game as it released, rough edges and all, but also some smaller aspects that I do miss. I certainly miss parts of the original tutorial, such as Zachary Quinto's expanded dialog and his character's role, and seeing the things that used to tie into the old, more cohesive Khitomer Accord STF.
Then there's the sensor contacts in Sector Space that chased and pulled you into a fight, which I really wish would return with some sort of revamp to make it more interesting and less "oh bleh, more loading screens," or the silly little details like that odd swirly black hole in the Regulus Sector Block. Would like to see anomalies like that (but obviously better looking and matching the updates) in the new Sector Space revamp!
I'll especially never forget the other pre-queue stuff, like Starbase 24, when you could enter and leave at will, as it and other Fleet Actions would cycle during active/inactive periods, and the mini-missions within them. I still prefer that over the current queue system. Seemed more part of the world that way.
All that aside, STO has come a long way, and much for the better. It's certainly prettier to look at, thanks to all the improved art and customization features along the way.
Good show, devs, double-fooled me with this update, but please, don't make this a one-time-only thing!
As a new player I have been curious about the old school sto so many vets miss, i have enjoyed playing around in redshirt and you know some things i like better, the default ground controls make more sense out of the box, I am one who also wishes it would be around awhile so i could explore it a bit.:D:cool:
I also like the intro story better. the current tutorial is kinda lame.
Howdy all,
Glad I read the Forums I forgot it was April 1 lol. At first I was like no they can not do that the glad to know it was a joke yea. I just bought a new ship last night and did not want to lose it. anyway see you all in game!

Open Instances are a feature I definitely miss. Always having to go through a queue is annoying. Maybe the Sector Space Revamp Enemy Contacts will bring a bit of that back, but ultimately, they are so far only pure shoot-em-up scenarios without any depth. The old open instance fleet missions had at least different stages.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Just make sure you undo it when it comes time to patch Holodeck.
hehe, thanks for the reminder, i have issues with my memory so thought it best to create a seperate shortcut for redshirt.. just to make sure i didnt fluff it up

Ok, now srsly, april 1st is over: Is there really an early STO build on redshirt or not? Cuz I'm really patching right now...
I'm guessing that it might present issues with their Delta Recruiting plans .
... can't have that now can we ...

Love your sig-of-the-day ... , tho I wish there was room for the word "actually" -- as in "...and the players actually love it !" .
... 'cuz u know it's the truth ...
Good Idea - fix incoming soon! (at least sooner as any cryptic fixes)
Cool !
... u can now haz cookie ...

Game on! See you online

are you using the workaround for you patching?
you right click your launcher shortcut and select properties, then amend your 'target location' with the following..
-patchserver patchserverrebirth.crypticstudios.com
would then look like something similar too..
"E:\Steam\steamapps\common\star trek online\Star Trek Online.exe" -patchserver patchserverrebirth.crypticstudios.com
depending on where you shortcut points too
Just make sure you undo it when it comes time to patch Holodeck.
Edit: Ok and where the hell is the Game client??
LOL. Srsly, who would want to play on holodeck in it's current post DR state if you can have an awesome game on redshirt instead
I haven't logged into holodeck for a long time and that won't change until they remove all content since S9.5.
Oh yeah
My problem is more to do with my fast (350-400 Kb/s) Australian internet

Now i've got 92 MBs.. xD
Edit: Nvm fixed the issue.
love this game and lol I dont even have the holodeck version
@dgdolph
nice sig
I'd rather have both, personally. But to each their own
It is tremendous fun. If they don't leave it up, I'm going to be sad.
It's pretty fun and it's nice to see exploration back.
I joined shortly before Season 8 so I never got to see STO like this.
