I finally got it to the point where I can log in but it won't accept my user name and password. Any suggestions? I tried my current username/password and my original Cryptic username/password. It still won't let me log in.

This was a great joke and an even greater experience being able to play the old version of the game on redshirt... eventually. unfortunately having never tried before redshirt was invisible to me and i had to jump through several hoops including looking up an old non ARC launcher because arc refused to acknowledge it existed.. or tribble for that matter although apparently i could have launched the test server for neverwinter just fine... >.> despite the fact I've never played that at all..
its amazing how much things have changed and i hope they keep this up a while... and fix what are obviously some glaring server detection errors in the patcher system now that I've got redshirt installed through the secondary launcher arc is showing it and tribble (might be they have patched the code while i wasn't looking i was... occupied) but how many people who might have enjoyed this event have so far missed out because of the fact redshirt is hiding from them? (posting a short tutorial on getting the server options to come up again might be good too since its off by default in ARC meaning most of the players don't even get the option to switch and may not know how to bring it up took me a few minutes to find)
again i hope you keep this up for a while i for one would like to see it become "a thing" though you probably cant afford a server to run the older version all the time
Just got off, and man, did I ever forget how clunky the controls were before. Was a great experience playing around with the first build, hope it sticks around for a while, I'd love to get to level six and try out PvP. Shoutout to whoever that was that I was doing patrols with, them pesky Orions. Pity the chat doesn't work.

Are you getting "connection to the account server timed out"? because that's what I'm getting.
Patching Redshirt for the first time since... gosh, I can't even remember!
I mean. I love STO as it is now. I don't miss the old days for the most part. And I know that this Rebirth thing is "just a joke". Nevertheless, I really super hope that (1) this stays up, (2) it gets updated to include pre-order items, the old STFs and hopefully also the KDF exploration clusters, and (3) lots of people play PvP on it, because PvP was actually good back in the day.
I haven't played since the anniversary event ended, and I haven't posted in much longer than that, but I had to come back and try this. It brought back memories of all those times I played through the tutorial because I knew I couldn't afford to actually subscribe to the game. And it was really fun to get to play an exploration mission again. Yes, I know, they come out sloppy, but that doesn't change the fact that they're fun. I really hope it's up long enough for me to hit level 10.

I had to hit the hay before being able to figure out the download, hopefully it will still be around later so can get a pewpew down memory lane, but if not, its still fun knowing they actually did it. cool beans im patching now, it is slow, but steady.
"was very cool, to april fool an april fool..."
well done Cryptic, and on top of an already very busy schedule too *removes beanie and claps hands!*
I like how the first 30 or so pages were all angry ravings at cryptic for this 'joke' when it was actually real.
Nobody came back and apologized for their lack of fact checking and casual insults thrown at the devs either.
terrible forum community
unfortunately, there does often seem to be players who keep themselves busy, looking for any reason to hog tie and roast the devs. there will always be players, or ex players, who automatically see the negative or think the worst in any given situation. this attitude isn't just endemic of many players in games forums, it is endemic of many payers in life. but, the reverse is also true, i think there are many who would rather try and see the positive in all things, and just deal with the negative whenever they turn up lol
So I just played this up through the Azura mission, and dang. It's super rough, and the current Holodeck game is so much better at least PvE-wise, but I am having so much nostalgia here. It was great to play the old tutorial again. Now I'm super excited about revisiting the exploration clusters; won't be long now before I get to level 4 (or is it 5?) and the old Delta Volanis cluster unlocks.
Cryptic, please please PLEASE leave this up.
ETA: Cluster unlocks at level 3! Woohoo, off to go exploring~
Thing is... This is an April Fools but if you were serious I would actually be happy. It was a simpler time and the game was more fun. It was more visceral, more engaging. Sure it was scruffy looking and lacked content, but it was a better 'game'...
In my opinion this is a little bit of a backfire.
Agreed.
The reason this "joke" works is because if you polled the people who were round then, that is if you could find them since most have left the game, they would find a majority in support.
Go for it.... seriously, go for it. I'd spend money once again, for that
So, upon finding out that part of this joke was, in fact, true, if temporary, I had to go the extra step and download another ten gigs to see for myself!
I have to say, I appreciated this, it not only gives me a chance to see the game as it released, rough edges and all, but also some smaller aspects that I do miss. I certainly miss parts of the original tutorial, such as Zachary Quinto's expanded dialog and his character's role, and seeing the things that used to tie into the old, more cohesive Khitomer Accord STF.
Then there's the sensor contacts in Sector Space that chased and pulled you into a fight, which I really wish would return with some sort of revamp to make it more interesting and less "oh bleh, more loading screens," or the silly little details like that odd swirly black hole in the Regulus Sector Block. Would like to see anomalies like that (but obviously better looking and matching the updates) in the new Sector Space revamp!
I'll especially never forget the other pre-queue stuff, like Starbase 24, when you could enter and leave at will, as it and other Fleet Actions would cycle during active/inactive periods, and the mini-missions within them. I still prefer that over the current queue system. Seemed more part of the world that way.
All that aside, STO has come a long way, and much for the better. It's certainly prettier to look at, thanks to all the improved art and customization features along the way.
Good show, devs, double-fooled me with this update, but please, don't make this a one-time-only thing!
As a new player I have been curious about the old school sto so many vets miss, i have enjoyed playing around in redshirt and you know some things i like better, the default ground controls make more sense out of the box, I am one who also wishes it would be around awhile so i could explore it a bit.:D:cool:
I also like the intro story better. the current tutorial is kinda lame.
Howdy all,
Glad I read the Forums I forgot it was April 1 lol. At first I was like no they can not do that the glad to know it was a joke yea. I just bought a new ship last night and did not want to lose it. anyway see you all in game!

Open Instances are a feature I definitely miss. Always having to go through a queue is annoying. Maybe the Sector Space Revamp Enemy Contacts will bring a bit of that back, but ultimately, they are so far only pure shoot-em-up scenarios without any depth. The old open instance fleet missions had at least different stages.

lemme think......
nope.
You're all going to be unemployed when this rotting behemoth finally sinks and time working on STO will be a stain on your CV.
Because jokes are funny like that.

Ok, now srsly, april 1st is over: Is there really an early STO build on redshirt or not? Cuz I'm really patching right now...
I'm guessing that it might present issues with their Delta Recruiting plans .
... can't have that now can we ...
Love your sig-of-the-day ... , tho I wish there was room for the word "actually" -- as in "...and the players actually love it !" .
... 'cuz u know it's the truth ...

Good Idea - fix incoming soon! (at least sooner as any cryptic fixes)
