New Patch is Brilliant - They Have Removed the Grind!

The time gated lockouts on patrols have solved STO's grinding problem.

Now y'ins can't grind.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=MiXgOQ9_-RI#t=112s

Nobody has to worry anymore that they are wasting time playing non-DR-patrol content, nobody has to worry that they could be doing something more efficient with their time.

Now, you just play what you think is fun, and there isn't any nagging bitterness that you could be progressing faster if you did something else.

They removed the grind from STO by removing grinding. Don't like grinding? Now y'ins can't grind.

Problem solved!

This also removes the issues with hardcore vs. casual gaming.

Locking the patrols so you can't grind them means that everyone is on the same page, everyone is in the same boat, and that boat moves at a casual and leisurely pace.

You couldn't be more correct, because taking the options away from players to interact with the game the way they wish to and have fun is always a great idea!!! Please .... If they keep this nonsense up you will have the game to yourself!

You seriously underestimate how many chars I can park outside of Argala and grind up. I won't, but don't tell me there is no more grind.

I don't like being "herded" like cattle when it comes to this game. And I feel like that is how Cryptic is treating us. They want us to play the game, yet they are making things to where we are playing "THEIR" way. I'm not one to farm patrols, but that's besides the point. The point is, they WANT us to play more of Delta Rising, and by making everything else time-locked, they are giving me the impression that locking everything else out behind a time-wall will accomplish THEIR goal.

Wrong way to go about keeping players "playing". IMO

The option to go back in and play Argala or any other patrol all day if you want, should be a BIG who cares and why should cryptic care if that's how someone wants to play the game? All they have done lately is take options away and as one player brilliantly pointed out here herd us into a pen to play the game a certain way. I thought we were all here for fun not to be given a rule book of regulations of how to play cause most people will move along when faced with restriction vs open game play elsewhere. Take a look around you, I see a lot of emptiness in the game these days in terms of players.

Their reasoning was pretty clearly explained as wanting to bring those patrols in-line with rewards from playing other aspects of the game. In fact, if you were playing the patrols because that is what you love to do, I'm sure Cryptic would still be happy if you kept doing it.

What they're stopping is the feeling that you must play those patrols to get the best return on your time. Actually they're trying to let you play the game your way by making other methods of progression viable.

I would bet that the time gate is because of the dil they added to the patrols.

why they did that I have no idea, except to quiet people complaning about the dil sinks. I don't play fantasy games, can you get XP, gold, gems and mana from one mine?

Why do people feel they need to get every thing (marks, mats, dil, and XP) from doing one mission? Maybe if you could only get one thing from one place at a time Cryptic would not feel the need for time gates.

Nope. The patch places a lock on the patrol missions so that of you do them once, you can't do them again afterwards,

I understode it to be foe that one patrol, that you could go do a different patrol.

I understand the reasoning and all, but the reality is, they are doing the 30-min lockout to force players to do something else for those 30 minutes.

Their ultimate goal is to keep people playing and paying. That's how they get their money and I am fine with that.

That's how I am reading this and I may be wrong... but that's just my feeling.

This is the only way to prevent the grinding that people hate so much.

I'm really not trying to be a jerk but do yo realize how dumb you sound?? Those who don't like to grind will not those who like to will WHY DO YOU CARE? should someone from thestate department come over and feed me vegetables because I like to eat a hamburger once in awhile which isn't good for me? Cryptic shouldn't be in the business of steering us away from the grind cause it's bad some people may like it!! Anyway you are entitled to your view of course I'm sorry I ranted at you but just be respectful of how other players may see this as not such a good thing!

When they removed the exploration clusters whenever people complained or asked why they removed it ten people stormed in the thread tellin ghtem to shut up because the missions sucked. Just saying.

Don't get me started on exploration, that was a huge mistake! Oh newbies end up there and are lost, I don't buy that one bit and if it's true boo hoo, they will figure it out, hell I started with closed beta and nobody knew what the hell they were doing and we managed. Anyway the topic creator he doesn't seem to understand that yes a segment whines about the grind and others don't mind it so cryptic should either keep their hands off restrictions or increase rewards across the board without locking people out of content they wish to play! I'm done commenting on this we're going in circles like STO is down the drain!

Now if they could only bring back the old STF tech drop system, requiring people to play all the STF's for full sets instead of repeteatedly grinding ISA. :P

Newbies get lost because they are newbies.
This game has a bewildering amount of technobabble that is in no way descriptive of what things actually do which compounds things but learning is inherent to any game that has a slight chance of being fun.

    Welcome change..

About time people actually play the game instead of farming XP singleplayer gamestyle.

    @ repetitiveepic:
Your wrong. You can go back and redo them as many times as you want! They are time gating it so there is a cool down period before you can do it again. The mission's that players had to go do patrol's are going away, not the patrol's themselves, Cryptic has never historically speeking locked content that you could do once since they have started adding things to the game. The old patrol's in the other sectors are an older story from when there were missions to go do them.

Unless I read those patch notes wrong and really missed something Patrol missions just get a cooldown timer and some dilithium...thats it. It's like a single player PvE queue mission now.

Delta Quadrant and Tau Dewa Patrol Systems:
Dilithium rewards have been added to all Delta Quadrant and Tau Dewa Sector patrol systems.
There is now a 30 minute cooldown for replaying a patrol in these sectors.
All patrol rewards of Skill Points, Expertise and Dilithium are relative to the amount of time they take to complete.

    From the patch notes.
