Lol! And yet, I'll guarantee that when the "Tier 6 Iconic SOVEREIGN Class" ship is released with 5 Tac consoles AND commander/Lt Comm Tac station, the wailing from you guys will commence in full force yet again. As a matter of fact, It's ALREADY beginning in the General Discussion section of the forum. So yet ANOTHER useless round of "phaser array lengths", "it's the writers' fault", "technical manuals", blah blah blah, ad nauseum will sure to be commencing shortly.
Actually, I'm quite content with what the Galaxy is now. It doesn't matter what the eventual Sovereign is - except people who like it will be happy. Though she won't have 5 tac consoles - that's restricted to escorts just like 5 eng is restricted to cruisers.
She has a playable build now without relying on 4 other players in Recluses spamming beta 3 or exploiting embassy consoles. A third of her powers wont' be stuck on constant cooldown. Her new model is beautiful. I'm quite content.
I hope a T6 iconic Sovie does come out for the people who want it the way we wanted the Galaxy. The most stubborn among us aren't whining about the '3 tac consoles' or anything else. The people who kept this thread alive and kicking are all very pleased. Will a new Sov be better? Maybe. /shrug. But the Galaxy is playable now and that's all that matters to me.
And I'm sorry - the people in general whining are the same people who in real life - you could give a ten dollar bill too, and they would turn and glare at you and ask, "That's all?"
Heh, been thinking back to some of the stuff we went through. Remember the Risian Cruiser? How that tub was better than the Galaxy? I mean sure, having the Excelsior being a superior ship always bugged me but it was more in a facepalm with a heavy sigh type of way. But getting literally a luxury cruiser ship that some Ferengi slapped some guns on being better than a Federation built heavy cruiser? I'll admit that was one of the few times that I raged internally at Cryptic.
Sorry if I'm getting all ramble-y. I'm just happy and all these memories are coming back haha.

I see a certain troll has come out from under his bridge to spoil our happiness and gratefullness of this new Galaxy Class.
All i can say about the ship is "WOW" didn't see the ship turning out as well as she has. Good job Cryptic, if a Tier 6 Soveriegn in the future trumps it, meh! so be it, i still have a very competitve Galaxy that i'll be proud to take in the PvE arena and not feel like a anchor dragging the rest of the team down. I'll be the anchor holding the team together and blowing through NPC's instead.
Thank you again Cryptic for the Tier 6 Galaxy. Not the best ship in the game she never needed to be, but now she is on equal footing with everyone else which is all we really ever asked for.
Oh by the way. Since I'm unable to pick her up right after she launches, I fully expect all of you who do to post up some shots of your beautiful new rides.
I also said back in this thread that all I wanted to do was barrel roll all over space in my T6 Galaxy in spite of the haters. I fully plan to do that, but I'd like to see some shots of you guys doing it too. Totally selfish request, I know. But hey, let's just have some fun with this! Show me your moves! :P

Well, ever since the defensive power creep, the lance has become a trivial weapon in any case, and cryptic is unlikely to make it an inbuild weapon ala dyson guns.
In my opinion, the whole Galaxy x ship should revolve around that one thing we saw it do. Fire a big honking super phaser. For tac cruiser duty, the assault cruiser variants, avenger, and excel always have been better.
Really, the GX is all about the lance gun, and if the gun sucks then the ship has no meaning past being a fancy costume option.
With the reworked boff seating it now has, the Galaxy will be my new staple.
Will i buy a redo of the GX? only if that gimmick gun actually becomes the center point of a re-release of that ship.
Right now, the GX has lost its luster. I used to be able to lance targets for critical death regularly.. nowadays the thing barely scratches anything.
So yeah. Off to the far side of the bus it is.
yes the lance may need an update concerning it firepower right now,mk14 beam array with beam overload do the job better.
the best way to do it would be a 1 iteration shot ( no chance to miss the second and therefore lossing 50% dmg).
because the biggest problem with the lance right now is that the enemy must STAY perfectly align with the weapon for it to hit on the 2 shot.
not only this, yourself of course need to stay still as well for aproximatly 4 seconds long ( recharge time, 1 shot pause 2nd shot ).
so a little boost in base damage and 1 iteration shot would greatly improve the real and perceive effect of the weapons.
but it is not since power creep go to the roof that this weapons was TRIBBLE you kown.
before we use to have only 2 tact console to boost it, and the base weapons damage was down by aproximatly 40% and also the infamous 3 minute cooldown, that was horrible!

are going to be the thing that drives profits, which make TOTAL sense. They have bills to pay just like every one else. As such, ships stats are ALWAYS going to change. Even though I stand by my belief that the GCS was an inconsistent, average to crappy ship as portrayed in TNG, I also said that it would or could probably receive a third tac console. well, i still think that the lance should be an inbuild weapon, facing forward with a small arc.
THe weapon should basically pack a sizeable base dps that will burn through anything dumb enough to remain there.
It should be toggle weapon, that when activated really depricates the X's tanking, but as i said: its gonna burn whoever sits in front of it.
The neghvar should get somethign similar, but with those huge disruptor pods.
The D'deridex needs a specia lfunctino that allows for the same, but with the added twist of randomly battlecloacking while warping around into random directional arcs around the target, leaving warp shadows every time.
As a tradeoff, the ships should have less "conventional" firepower, meaning while the special weapon is heavy duty dps ,the rest of the weapons will be less potent due to less tac consoles.

The Lance definitely should be built-in, but with a console allowing it to choose whether to fire it in a spread or in a narrow beam, similar to how the MVAE's console allows it to choose any one of the 3 options (forcing a CD on all 3).
If not on the Galaxy Dreadnought, at least on a T6 Odyssey and/or T5 Mirror Odyssey (still would need a manual update to T5U, like other newer Mirror-level ships; and the console could be on a T6 Odyssey but compatible with the T5, while both carry a default focused beam lance). They're big enough to mount a large lance, and the latter fits with their war-centric doctrine as well as somewhat behind techwise compared to their Prime counterpart.

yes i known that it is what it was in the show, but this is a game.
but if you want to build the galaxy x around the lance at the cost of something this is possible.
matt of the SRS fleet have a build specifically for that, he used to one shot people every 3 minute.
today it should be every 2 minute:)
a inbuild lance would be a lost in build variety for this ship since you would sacrifie a weapons slot for it and the ship would be centered around it.
you can achieve a similar result than what you search for by different means without reducing build ship possibilitys.
So I'm stuck at work - so if anyone can take some pictures of the updated Galaxy and let us know if she has any customization options. (phaser strip nacelles, etc). And how the neck/battle bridge looks with the saucer separated - I'd appreciate it greatly.

I'm getting mine tomorrow cause I need to transfer cash on my special internet card and I'm not exchanging my dil at this exchange ratio that's in game.
What I can tell you so far is that the new Galaxy Class model is excellent, looks really really good, and yes - it has the battlebridge when the saucer is separated.
The new Andromeda also looks very good, in a different weird way, but it's a good looking modern ship. It's also bigger than the standard Galaxy.
Customization options include saucer, neck, main hull, nacelles and pylons. You can mixmatch parts from the Andromeda, Galaxy, Monarch and Venture hulls.

I was planning on taking photos anyways, I'll post them here once I get home and patch.

A cruiser having 5 tac slots? What logical reasoning brings you to this conclusion? Cruisers have never had more than 4 tac slots (just like escorts and sci vessels and everything that isn't a cruiser has never had 5 eng slots), and I don't think that status quo will change. Besides, even if it does, I can bet you a million bucks the escorts will have at least 6+ tac consoles at that point.
And who said anything about the Galaxy outgunning other ships within STO? I certainly didn't. Please try to remember who you're talking to. For the longest time, I supported the status quo set by the Fleet T5 Galaxy of 2 tac consoles and an eng-heavy layout. While I find the LTC tac welcome, I also realize that the ship is still one of the most eng-heavy ships in the game which will not outgun a Sovereign or similar. This is STO, not Star Trek.
The rest of your post (read: "sore loser") is irrelevant to the Galaxy or the game. I look forward to your return to these parts of the forums. Amusement is running short these days.

Agreed on all points. And I'll be there.
It's gonna take me time to get these ships, but I want them ALL in my armada.
well, i still think that the lance should be an inbuild weapon, facing forward with a small arc.
THe weapon should basically pack a sizeable base dps that will burn through anything dumb enough to remain there.
It should be toggle weapon, that when activated really depricates the X's tanking, but as i said: its gonna burn whoever sits in front of it.
Perhaps it should be a mode, for what's fair? 10 seconds? 15? It just spews hot death, like Tricobalt weapon damage per volley FAW style at everything within its current firing arc. Take it from shields if you have to.
The neghvar should get somethign similar, but with those huge disruptor pods.
The D'deridex needs a specia lfunctino that allows for the same, but with the added twist of randomly battlecloacking while warping around into random directional arcs around the target, leaving warp shadows every time.
The Negh'var's main disruptors are straight siege weapons and they torn down DS9's shields, so definitely. That should be her special console or weapon in the vein of the Andorian Satellite Phasers.
The D'Deridex power works for me.
I think it should be a toggle, that selects beam or shotgun.
One tactical slot should be specified as the one that controls the beam, so whatever energy weapon tactical console is in that slot, determines the Lance's energy type.
Or combine the ideas and have that slot be like a kit, where you slot two modules one for the firing pattern type and one for the weapon energy type.
And seriously, the Proc rate for whatever is in the Lance should be like 50%.
And if I'm dream shipping here, why doesn't the Galaxy X or any other ship that should have it have innate transwarp velocity?
whoever? that a lot of firepower!! it goes to the bop up to the tholian recluse.
that sound like an iwin button to me, not that we don't have any in the game but still.
i concur that this weapons, as of today need more firepower, but not to the point were it will automatically 1 shot anything that happened to be on his path.

yes i known that it is what it was in the show, but this is a game.
I don't want it to one shot, that's a bit much, but if the two shots don't do 15% damage to targets that are other ships then something is wrong. I want it to do at least eat half of a similar sized target's life. Maybe one shot a Bird of Prey or a T'Varo, but as maneuverable as they are they're also the hardest to hit.
Mind you the mechanics of this game are as you said different to the show. For instance if we could target a warp core then I would expect a lance to one shot, but that's not the case. But she didn't even one shot in All Good Things.
but if you want to build the galaxy x around the lance at the cost of something this is possible.
matt of the SRS fleet have a build specifically for that, he used to one shot people every 3 minute.

I certainly haven't uncovered that secret yet.

I agree on that point, but there should be some way to modify the lance for those who want to use it in the canon style.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
whoever? that a lot of firepower!! it goes to the bop up to the tholian recluse.

Where do you read "one shot" in that post?
I am talking very high sustained damage, think vesta phaser focus beam, but fired i pulses instead of one continuous beam. Stay in front of it too long and it will burn through. The old lance was a oneshot weapon, the phantom lance is a one shot. Thats not how it should be. It should be a siege weapon, not an assasin dagger.
+ with a deprecated tank, its not gonna be so risk free.
I do too. I won't lie, having it immediately on sale is a big incentive for me to buy new ships. Well, I was going to get the Galaxy regardless, but hey I'm not going to complain at all here haha.
Anyone have some pics of the galaxy and monarch with the type 7 material? I'm on the fence about getting it atm, never been a huge fan of the galaxy, but if type 7 looks good on it i may be persuaded.
I like this new trend of immediately putting ships on sale as soon as they're released.
To be fair, they're still frigging expensive as far as "microtransactions" go...

I won't disagree with anyone that says spending money (or time, if you're going to grind the dil) on virtual starships for a computer game is a pretty foolish thing to do.

that sound like an iwin button to me, not that we don't have any in the game but still.
i concur that this weapons, as of today need more firepower, but not to the point were it will automatically 1 shot anything that happened to be on his path.
and i am also not a fan of building a galaxy x around the lance, this weapons should remain a weapon of opportunitie, a good one still, like the gurumba, but not something completely absurd.
yes i known that it is what it was in the show, but this is a game.
but if you want to build the galaxy x around the lance at the cost of something this is possible.
matt of the SRS fleet have a build specifically for that, he used to one shot people every 3 minute.
today it should be every 2 minute:)
a inbuild lance would be a lost in build variety for this ship since you would sacrifie a weapons slot for it and the ship would be centered around it.
you can achieve a similar result than what you search for by different means without reducing build ship possibilitys.

What about the Ambassador showing up with a LtCdr Sci slot?
Agreed on all points. And I'll be there.
It's gonna take me time to get these ships, but I want them ALL in my armada. Perhaps it should be a mode, for what's fair? 10 seconds? 15? It just spews hot death, like Tricobalt weapon damage per volley FAW style at everything within its current firing arc. Take it from shields if you have to.
The Negh'var's main disruptors are straight siege weapons and they torn down DS9's shields, so definitely. That should be her special console or weapon in the vein of the Andorian Satellite Phasers.
The D'Deridex power works for me. Makes perfect sense.
I don't want it to one shot, that's a bit much, but if the two shots don't do 15% damage to targets that are other ships then something is wrong. I want it to do at least eat half of a similar sized target's life. Maybe one shot a Bird of Prey or a T'Varo, but as maneuverable as they are they're also the hardest to hit.
Mind you the mechanics of this game are as you said different to the show. For instance if we could target a warp core then I would expect a lance to one shot, but that's not the case. But she didn't even one shot in All Good Things.
I certainly haven't uncovered that secret yet.
I agree on that point, but there should be some way to modify the lance for those who want to use it in the canon style.

I like this new trend of immediately putting ships on sale as soon as they're released.

To be fair, they're still frigging expensive as far as "microtransactions" go...

They definitely are, but for anyone planning on purchasing regardless, it's nice to get a discount right out of the gate.
I won't disagree with anyone that says spending money (or time, if you're going to grind the dil) on virtual starships for a computer game is a pretty foolish thing to do.
