I also don't care for PvP, in a game I play because of Star Trek. I'd rather see QoL improvements, bug fixes, re-vamp of the old content, more story-content, more customization for ships, characters, Foundry improvements, exploration, less obvious grind... not particulary in this order, but, there.
Best of luck to the new guy at the helm.
...welcome to an ONLINE-GAME.... how can one come to think pvp isn't a fundamental part of ANY onlinegame?!?!? i don't get it...
but, yeah.... more costume options, pets, blublub

I think it's because it's no longer 2009?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
But what good is all that, if the majority of the player base has no interest in PvP???
Do you mean to suggest that Cryptic should force players to PvP?
forum pvp haters are a tiny minority of players. there are legions of former players that if they heard pvp was getting major attention would at least come back to have a look. and the silent majority of non forum users that would probably be open to giveong it a shot if they heard about some kind of enhanced approachability.
like if match making was done based on leader board balancing, after a few weeks super elite premades would never encounter weekend warriors that decide to que up. combating a thinking opponent is infinitely more interesting then a brainless sack of hitpoints npc, no mater anyone's skill level involved
Not that anything in the blog or this threads topic is actually about PvP......
To some folks...
It's ALWAYS about PvP.

Welcome to the hot seat Ricossa! I'm actually glad it is you. You've been with the product since the start like many of us and we need someone who understands this game and its player base. It's great to see we have someone who isn't splitting his time between two jobs.
As for the news about the making space travel more seamless this has been a long time coming and I'm glad to see it finally happening. Could this mean we will be getting the rest of the Alpha quadrant systems added (Fereginar, Betazed, etc.)?
As for everyone's banter on PvP... whether its a minority part of the game or not its still a necessary part of an MMO. I haven't bothered to waste my time upgrading anything or grinding my life away on gear because its not necessary in this game to be successful at PvE content. Despite thoughts to the contrary, there is lots of money in some form of PvP play. The folks most likely to spend money in droves to be the best are those playing PvP.
PvE has to be marginalized to meet the needs of the low end gear folks. I want to see a PvP update but a full revamp so its more of an integrated component of the game. I might even consider wasting my time earning the superfluous gear and traits that have been added.

Within Stephen's very last paragraph, he said nothing about including or removing PvP.
We need more information.
Alpha, Gamma, and Delta Quadrants?
Alpha (everything to the "right" of the Sol N/S line, Sirus, Regulus, Eta Eradani, etc), Beta (everything left of the Sol N/S line), and I assume Delta.
Sector Space getting combined... either gonna be awesome or a complete disaster, I wonder how doffing will be handled by it...
I'm probably a little biased, being one of the people working on this for a couple months, but I think it's going to be amazing! Obviously can't talk much about it yet, but there's more to it than just smooshing things together.
And for the record, the initial maps will be Alpha, Beta, Delta.
Congratulations on making the captain's chair Mr. Ricossa.
You got your work cut out for you. Maybe you can do something about cleaning up this mess. Merging sector space down to 3 maps sounds interesting. I hope the 'hamsters' are up for it.
Because yeah, everyone *must* enjoy Red vs Blue... Lol...
u still don't get it and won't, so i'll just drop this:
njoy every addition to the game. as an hardcore pve'er i've seen em all (like every other serious pvp'er).
the part i totally prefer to all that "content" was promised to boned out for years and NOTHING happened.
so again: njoy smashing dumb npc's, voice-overs, new missions, costume options, mini-games and whatnot else will get added while everyone interested in pvp gets nothing.

That's a reasonable assumption, but I'm not really sure most Trek fans come to the game looking for PvP.
But I agree, if They build it some will come... Just not sure it would be worth the investment.

I don't personally care for PvP and can't think of a single person who does, so I'd prefer development efforts be spent on other areas.
I'm encouraged about the redevelopment of sector space. While I respect that you can't reveal all your plans just now, I do hope they include additional quality of life improvements, and a reduction of grindy elements. I would also encourage continued communication.
I find myself suddenly cautiously optimistic about the future of this game. Which is a great improvement over how I felt about it yesterday.
Thank you for the T6 Galaxy Class. - I support Tovan Khev. - Please bring back the exploration missions.

D'Angelo has been our CTO for years.
a few times now ive been placed below the sector block exiting the kobali space map. i took this opportunity to fly unrestricted for like a half hour wile AFK until the sector block was a tiny dot in the distance, and i hadn't hit any kind of wall yet ether. so, it seems like gigantic wide open spaces are more then possible, maybe even non empty ones!
Some of you wonder why the STO pvpers are so bitter towards Cryptic. The reason is, Cryptic has lied to us for years. We aren't complaining over nothing, the lies have stacked... Over a dozen promises to fix PvP have all but been broken. Pure blatant lying, if it wasn't lying, where is the effort put into correcting pvp? Nowhere, infact their game breaking cash cow content has made PvP even worse... far worse. They've broken the game for casuals and PvErs that want big boom booms.
The guy who screwed up the shuttle release and we could all get the engine over and over... so rather than fix the bug ASAP he sat around BUYING Back all the the ones on the exchange allowing some of us to make MILLIONS and MILLIONS of EC by putting them up for outrageous prices knowing he was buying them????

I try something new here, as I have no actual data to support any claims of hundreds of people just wating to get into PvP, I'll speak for myself only. I have no interest in PvP, that won't change, ever.
But I believe since Cryptic put it into their game, they should support it.
Well done making it to the top spot Stephen Ricossa.
Its no secret that the rift between the player base and the development team is now the widest it has ever been but you will get the benefit of the doubt from me until your decisions start reaching us on holodeck.
Hear is a priority list for you:
1) Transparency.
Some times your going to have to make choices that we don't like. It may be because of a need to generate revenue. Or maybe something can not be achieved because the code is 5 years old and who ever wrote it left no notations.
We are tired of being deceived manipulated and lied to. If you are 100% honest and open with us about why unpopular decisions are being made we are far less likely to place blame on you and more like to place blame on the economic reality.
2) Polish.
STO is broken. STO was released broken and every single feature and episode since has likewise been released broken. A year and three days ago Loadouts were released as the new big thing. I am still waiting for them to work for me.
Maybe making loadouts work is too big a job but there are much smaller easier fixes going ignored for far longer too; such as the combat supply duty officer who most certainly dose not reduce the cool down on combat supply.
3) Power disparency.
I used to be able to recommend STO as a true free to play game. Friends would join the game, enjoy it because they didn't feel they had to spend, then spend money any way. I cant recommend this game any more though as the gap between a player with 5 years development or a bit of money to spend, and a new free to play player is insurmountable. Even if I can persuade a friend to stick with the game they will never be anything but a hindrance in elite content now.
4) Bug ticket system.
How many bugs ignored for the past five years would have been fixed by now if this system worked? Experience has taught me that the only way to get a bug fixed in STO is to make a fuss about it on the forums. That's not right. Lets get the ticket system working so that you guys can lean about and fix issues before we bring them to the forums in disgruntled posts.
no idea how many already left, eh? there've been a healthy pvp-community. but i guess u don't know, cause why?!
Get back on your chat and bring out the other 3 to help lobby. You only brought 16 so far.

The more PVE updates the better. If anything I hope they add more diplomatic options and more exploration options.
A for the pvp discussion, PVP can die in a fire from ALL MMOs imho. Let pvpers go back to call of duty and stay there . PVP causes too much toxicity to be of any worth in any cooperative game.
I just gave the same game winning cheer I gave when the pats won last night! Sector space as one big map! something I have wanted since year one. I am excited! If something of this calibur is what we see in the opening act I cant wait to see what the new lead can bring to the table. I cant wait to see where the game goes to now.

Maybe not now but later on...
next expansion could lead to the gamma quad... Dominion and playable Cardassians.
It is a Quad and one we can not get to via normal travel...
even in ST ships from the Fed/KDF/Roms can get to the Beta quad (Bajor and to the wormhole) via normal means... regular warp speed.
gamma is only thru the wormhole and now delta only via the gateway...
normal travel to those 2 locations would take decades under normal warp speed.
if they want to divide alpha and beta up into 2... thats ok but the map for STO is off. Would they fix that as well then?
