chuamishaelchuamishael Member Posts: 69 Arc User
I Just like the Devs to double checked/confirm this.

I heard this rumor from another source. that PWE database got stolen.
okaygoods and mmook are part of this. (thats what I heard)

another thing is, try to find out if you have disappearing EC, Zen dilithium and items.
or even your own toon is being used to spam advert.
then,you could have been TRIBBLE.

My fleet mate EC, got disappeared from his account bank.

but currently. I dont have proof or data for this, only cryptic can confirm this.

just be careful guys.

The worst I've seen was the past month when I kept getting emails from PWE that "I" was requesting a password change (which I wasn't), which went from a frequency of once a day to TEN times a day up until a week or so ago when they suddenly stopped. My account remains secure.

My friend bought some stuff from a shady site and got his account stolen.

It's good for folks to hear the horror stories so perhaps they will think twice about doing that.

If nobody's buying, then nobody's spamming.

Welp, looks like I'mma have to block you pre-emptively now, don't want no ec spam coming from your account at me. Clearly, if you're having loadout issues, your account's been TRIBBLE. :P

    Rumors from single digit posters...

Skeptic mode activated. Requesting more evidence or word from Cryptic Devs.
Besides... Its Cryptic that has our accounts. Not PWE. They got their own games made by their own people.
If PWE gets compromised, that doesn't exactly affect Cryptic as technically, although owned by PWE, Cryptic is a seperate entity.

Not sure if it is coincidence, but my account was compromised late yesterday. When I logged in this morning all my Zen/Dil/EC was gone. Strangely they didn't seem to touch any of my gear. I raised a ticket and a GM confirmed my account was compromised. Luckily they were able to roll back my characters so most of what I lost was restored.

However, I have no idea how my account could have been TRIBBLE. I've never shared my password with anyone ever. And I know my email was not TRIBBLE, so I have no idea how they got past account guard. This is the first time I've ever been TRIBBLE in any MMO (out of dozens I've played). I definitely lost a lot of confidence in the game. At least the GM responded fairly quickly.

Have you set a protect for your email , if not , you email must be got TRIBBLE, they have a super hack soft to get your email password. and dont forget close your email POP/IMAP . they can thought that to get your email without protect.

It would be bad press...and I can't remember off the top of my head what kind of breach they're required to notify customers about.

I'm curious though, putting this and that together, but for the life of me I can't remember since I created my account and stuff a bazillion years ago. Do they prevent folks from choosing in-game @handles that match their account names? Cause mine doesn't, but I can't remember if that was my choice (good choice) or they enforced that.

To be honest, I can understand that believing an account was stolen because it was used to spam others, and the user didn't do it themselves. However, with the problem this game has had with Dil, EC, and items disappearing, it is most likely just the bug in the game that some people get sometimes.

Either Dil (whether refined, or not) will disappear (usually after a mirror event, CC event, or bonus Dil event), or EC will after getting a lot of it in a short amount of time. But if you put in a bug report, they just tell you that there is nothing they can do about it, so you are screwed.

This doesn't mean that their account wasn't TRIBBLE. If the only problem someone has is something disappearing, it is most likely the bug that pops up now and then. It is best to just change your password for both the game, and your email account to be safe.

Actually they centralized login just before LoR I believe. It services Neverwinter, Swordsman and others.

Since then we've had account guard added, passwords were updated, and I would assume that most of us now use email systems that have 2-step authentication at this point. If you don't I'd look into it.

If the OP thinks he can trust his 'source' I would do the following:

    1.) reset your password.
2.) provide any actionable information, not matter how small to support.arcgames.com

The only thing that doesn't bother me is my CC information. I use Google wallet to buy from PWE, and frankly it's about as secure as you can get. PWE never gets my financial information.

Well, this would explain the recent influx of constant spam plaguing everywhere.

The spam has been coming from accounts that were clearly player owned at some point(non-wargarble @handles) and new accounts don't immediate access to zone-wide chat channels.

Thanks for the heads up. I'd advise everyone to change their passwords, regardless.

I think it happened at about the same time as Archived Post stole all our ideas which was June 2012. So that would be around when Fleet Starbases were introduced.

Considering that PWE were out, within practically no time reacting to the break in under Atari when they found out, and making sure everyone fixed their passwords so they weren't compromised, I find it highly unlikely that they would keep this under wraps.

PWE takes a c*apload of steps to make sure their valuable income... I mean... Customers accounts are safe.

Not exactly a big fan of PWE, but they DO take account security very seriously.

OR... They really LIKE the attention, so they deny the rumor, knowing that someone like you would call the bluff thinking they are just covering it up, so that everyone else thinks its just a conspiracy theory and ignore it.

As I was reading this thread, I kept thinking to myself that, of all topics, a CM needs to pop in on this aaaaaand...here we go. 😄

Honestly, and I've been frustrated with the poor communication for years, we all should realize that there has been more of an effort as of late. Its not great and I often read things I don't like from them, but there has been an upswing that should be acknowledged.

I get nervous about a account hacks since there is very little GM support in STO and what's there is pretty weak. Im thankful the rumor was put to rest quickly.

I am pretty sure there are legal ramifications to a data breach, to include mandatory disclosure in the US. However stupid some of the game design and PR decisions have been, that is a pretty black and white area. Not disclosing a breach is a risk I really don't think PWE would run.
