Going to have to make a note to myself that playing STO on Thursdays is impossible from now on.
I know for a fact eve online servers are A LOT more high end then STO and are under a lot more load and only go down for 10-30mins each day, yet this simple server has to be down for 5+hours every week and it doesn't really fix anything. Your IT department needs to be fired and find some better people for all the money you guys are making off us.
Maintenance will be extended further into this morning. We will post an ETA as soon as we have one. Sorry for the further delay. Our Engineers are working as fast as they can, but we made sure to order them into the warp core, so they won't be coming back. This is the price of further extensions. Geordi knew it. This was exactly what Troi had to do to him on the Holodeck.

I agree. There is no reason that a for-profit gaming company should have 5+ hours of maintenance/down-time every week. I'm a network specialist and I manage 17 servers. I have about 12 hours of down time every year. Granted, my servers are of a different world, but servers are servers, once they are set up PROPERLY, they should need little maintenance.

And you do a major overhaul and testing of the software on your servers how often?
And your customers would notice if you dropped to half-capacity to swap hardware out, right?

You now I already enjoy the message in the launcher...."Please check forums"
For what? Since quite some time Cryptic was not able to hold their own promises in terms of server availbility after patches and usually they don't show even up to tell the people.
This was one of the reasons I left this game after 6months of launch (not mentioning the other issues) and even after 4 years exactly the same major issue is happening. Really there should be a company getting a license for another Star Trek game and you guys would be out of business before you could say anything.
This is not brainmelt technology...its a repeative task every week and it's known to you weeks before it is even conducted.

cooldown - as Long as i get no competent communication i will not spend a Cent on this game - even for 1 euro i would not buy 1000 zen atm - i enjoy the game in some aspects, i dream of a season 9 Server, but again with this communication between Players and cryptic - not a single more Cent
nice u wasted so much time in your sig - i do not see it anyway
And the server will be even more laggy for some folks than before the patch. I like that. Especially since I dont have connection error. Oh, Schadenfreude...

World of ******** suffered 4-6 hours of downtime every week, sometimes as long as 12, and I shouldn't need to tell you the difference in customer satisfaction budget between a hundred-million-dollar a month paid subscription outfit and this nickel-and-dime FTP bullcrap is night and day.
I don't think these server downtimes are avoidable for an MMO.

You never do testing on the main server, you do testing and overhauling on a "TEST" server before you do it to the main server, then you tell your playing/customer base that the server will be down for a overhaul and give them real answers not childish things like "we are working on the warp core" are 15 year old's Role players running this company or something?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Mine says 6-10:30 but 10:30 was 7 minutes ago and it's still down.
If you look at it now it says 6-11.
I can understand that things happens that causes the maintenance to take longer then expected, but multiple "stealth" extensions with no explanation or information whatsoever always make me question what's going on.
It smells to me that PWE here is also hugly involved. Beside STO and CO the games are not developed by Cryptic. So its quite possible that the PWE system is loading extra fun into this server mess.
Regarding lag...I complaint recently about it, and you know the answer was...run a file verficiation and start the games through the broken ARC Games client. Sure...I have steam purchased via Steam use Steam...and for STO I should use another lol client of a game company.
Not in a 1000 light years. If you have a game live on steam take care its playable otherwise remove it and compensate the customers.

^ This. And one of the things you are taught when dealt with customers is professionalism.

Fair point, but on the flip side of that, we're not talking reduced capacity, unless you count reduction to zero in that.
If they need the time for updates, that's fine. Just give reasonable estimates on the timeline. Then, you make people HAPPY being being up and running "early" instead of late. And if on occasion, it does run over... less people will be irritated.
They should pay attention when Montgomery Scott talks about how he makes Kirk think he's a miracle worker

You Craptic Defence Trolls all are citizens of Hy-Brasil, are you?
Can't see total failure if it spits in your face for half a dozend consecutive times.
You really deserve this game. 8-P

Cryptic takes the time to do it right: "Dammit where's my game, craptic?!"
It's fine to be critical, but jeez, you can't have it all ways.

I really suspect that they have combined account/login servers for all their games
10+ years in engineering and I do say, it's not at all difficult and shouldn't take long for maintenance, even with top notch software.
