    I just don't get why the non-Intel Ship Hybrid seats aren't Career/Universal...so those ships with a Hybrid seat that aren't Intel (or Command) could use either. Otherwise, they're saying all those ships are Intel or Command ships, and as such - they should all have the Intel mechanic, yeah?

    because they not could tie a full line of new ships to new specializations and would sell less (my bet is next lockbox/lobi round will carry cmd-lt's hybrids).
    cryptogic (cryptic logic; pun intended), as i said. they always want us to get the new stuff, not the stuff that we want. very clever (not really :rolleyes:)... they even want to choose what content to play for us. it's not our choice, it's theirs. at least this impression grows from my experience in here.
    a clever salesman may would act different, but hey: they're pros and i'm a nub lol! ;)

    Why are they trying to sell you a brand new ship before letting you play with the new toys?

    Cause last time they tried we bought them. And many even defended the concept.

    "releasing a new one is not meant to imply that we won’t continue to support previous selections."

    Does this mean that Intelligence team will be fixed finally or does this mean you will "continue to support" just releasing new stuff and forgetting about the broken stuff?

    Personally, I misunderstood the concept. Basically along the lines of how I've explained/complained here recently.

    T6 Intel Ships...yep, saw those ships as having Intel Hybrid Seats.
    T6 Ships...nope, saw those ships as having Hybrid Seats.

    My expectation, faulty as it now appears, in picking up some of the non-Intel T6 ships was premised on those seats being Hybrid seats...not solely Intel Hybrid seats. After all, they were not Intel Ships, right? Thus the expectation was that as new Specializations and new Specialziation BOFFs were released in the future - that I would be able to continue using those ships. No, I would never have the full access to abilities that the specific T6 Specialization ships would have...but not that I would have to buy additional ships to make use of a Lt BOFF station of all things.

    So I get how the Command stuff is meant for team play. That is beneficial in space when we can be in five man groups and have access to our BOFF's abilities. However, has anyone given thought to how this would really work on ground and would really be limited since group size is five and we DON'T have access to all of our BOFF's abilities?

    I just see this as far far less useful as a group thing on the ground. Space, really makes sense.

    Cryptic,

    I have two thoughts on what I read regarding the skills for the Command Specialization.

    1) The drain power from life support skill, should be a basic skill for all Captains, similar to Abandon ship.

    It is not a desirable skill to ever have to use, and has huge consequences. So, I think rather then a Command Skill, it should be a skill all Captains possess, as a basic command decision, like abandon ship. Personally, as it sits, I would never train any of my officers in this skill, as I would not want the consequence coming with it. However, if it was a Captain's ability I had to choose to use, I might use it from time-to-time, if a worst case scenario, which is the whole point of using it, similar to abandon ship.

    2) Bridge officer seating - Players buy the layout, and seating they would like

    It had been suggested before, that STO developers at one time, toyed with the idea of selling bridge seating layouts apart from ships, which you could then merge together. I would highly like to suggest a return to this course of thought, as STO beings focusing on Specializations.

    I would really like to be able to pick which specializations, if any, the seating can include. I would also like to choose how many of any one, or several STO professions I want. It would also be nice to be able to pick the level of bridge officer abilities, this paying more to have to seats of three skills, then 3 seats of 2 skills.

    Ships could then be specialized even more, for synergy between bridge seating layout, class specification or profession, and type of ship.

    Just saying, I am getting the point of having way too many ships, for the very few Captains I use. I think the better course would be to start allowing customization of ships, to be the dream boat of your dreams.

    That's much better feedback on that particular BOFF ability than my lol at there has to be the lame ability feedback.

    At the same time, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place based on warpdustdev's comment:

    - Either I should now train all my available Boffs with TS3, BO3, Tyken3, Polarise3, etc. using the dozens of Boffs I have stored towards that purpose --> thus TRIBBLE myself of pretty much all current builds till the new BOFF system hits.

    - Or I shall get rid of the Boffs with rare abilities till they have value --> thus being later in position of hardly getting those useful abilities if I need them.



    So any clear indication on how those abilities (only available on rare Boffs) will be obtainable in the future? Is it worth rendering all my Boffs useless now and filled with these rank 3 powers?

    Ohh.. baby! Now these are my kind of abilities. I can already see a dozen or so really good synergies.


    That said, I'm going to be very disappointed if we don't get a T6 Command version of a Vesta(my Plasma Torpboat) and Bortasqu(Ambush Marker+Subspace Snare will be great).

    I read the dev blog. I was all excited about the powers, especially since my favorite way to play is in a team! I'd actually been feeling like the devs have been sticking it to team players, particularly in story missions. Yay, another solo story mission that we can't play on game night!

    Then I saw the seating restrictions. So, I need to buy a new ship (and drydock the ship I ALREADY BOUGHT) because there's a new seat that didn't exist when the ship was designed in the first place. Not cool.

    I get that ships are probably the cash cow of the game (after lockboxes), but this forced upgrade is getting a bit ridiculous. Up until Tier 6, this problem didn't even exist. It's as though a problem was created just to sell ships.

    this again? seriously?

    Waiting for the Command package... 5 fed ships and 2 rom and 2 kdf ships =)

    Same as intel, except that wasn't tied to an anniversary event. I'd be surprised if the ships we get this year won't be able to seat at least one Command boff.

    Hopefully they will work on ground and not need the ships. This is how I can use my Intell BOFF. Since I still use T5 ships.

    Also, since the BOFFs are still tied to a particular Career - even if one does not use Intel nor Command BOFF abilities, they can still use that BOFF in that particular Career slot. I run the Hierarchy guy with his Efficient and Pirate traits in a non-Intel Sci slot. I run a Talaxian Eng with Salvage in a non-Intel Eng slot.

    You will be able to craft a doohickey (or buy it from somebody that did) that allows you to add a Specialization to any BOFF.

    However in order to apply said doohickey it appears you will need to earn a certain number of points in the specialization.
    so players will need to advance in the Command Officer Captain Specialization in order to train their existing Bridge Officers to make use of Command Officer abilities.

    It seems you will still be able to train existing command bridge officers (such as those white quality officers available from the Boff contact) in command powers but to make one yourself you will need to invest points in the specialization.

    I've actualy been thinking about that, the origanal Oddessy and Bortasqu class ships were given away as Annesversary ships, or at least weaker prototype version of them anyhow. So maybe we'll get t6 Command versions of them (and probaly a Scimitar for Romulans) this year, followed no doubt by Tactical, Enginering, and Science versions in the C-Store.

    Further since they're doing all this with the BOff skill revamp and the Command Officer skills doing this would let them just reuse the old models rather than having to make a new ship or three.

    I was thinking the same thing, although I'm hoping if they go for T6 flagship refits there's going to be some tweaking of the visual design.

    I too like many others already stated similarly am concerned now that the ships I just got done PAYING for to upgrade wont be able to use this new Command BOFF feature. Talk about possibly charging me for a feature knowing very well it'll have a deflated value because of a decision already in the pipeline. Again, though, possibly. Besides that the Command feature itself sounds like a good addition to STO's progression, & I look forward to learning more about it.

    How about making all commander seats on the ships command/specialization hybrid seats, and calling them First Officer seats?

    So say my Vesta First Officer seat would have to either be a Command BOff or a Science BOff.

    Looks like another set of powers I will only be using on the ground, since I have no intention of buying a new ship just to support this powerset. I'm perfectly happy with my Narcine, and will continue to be.

    This has me curious because of the specific disclaimer of universal stations which to me since I liked to play bops. So given the way Cryptic releases things this pretty much feels like a new grind for the federation players out there but not KDF or Romulan Republic. So roughly being that I'm a KDF player when I do play that these new updates are not meant for the players like me out there heh.

    This is kind of my feelings on it as well. If they want to keep devoting development time and labor hours to power sets that can only be used on fancy $30 ships without a discount... well, hey. I'm perfectly fine with my first-hand experience of the Intelligence officer powers consisting entirely of the Lt. hybrid seat on my free T6 Breen Carrier.

    Start putting these power sets (even on a limited basis) onto currently-existing ships as hybrid slots, and maybe I'll change my tune on whether or not I want to fork over $30 for a ship just for more access to that power set.

    So, I need a paid ship to get these new slots. Meaning the whole system is behind a paywall if you plan to play in space (where most of us play because ground combat is still not that fun).

    You know, you could make it possible to add this seat to an existing ship, or sacrifice a console slot or two to add a seat, so that players who don't buy ships can still use it.

    May I jump on the "bandwagon" of this whole buy a new ship every time a new powerset or whatever comes out is getting old, fast.

    For as long as I've been in this game (aka joined just after 2 year anni event ended), your "identity" and "class" in space has been determined by the ship chosen, however, especially as time went on (can we say 3 pack ships? Universal Command seat? 2x Universals on 75% of the later releases?), the exact power loadout has been customizable...

    To wit: I see a "Vesta" in PvP. Which can be semi hard to recognize, if much as I do, said target takes and shipyards it to use the Vesta saucer, Rademaker hull, and Aventine nacelles. At this point, I'm still unsure as to which "baseline" hull it is, is it tactical, science, or engineering (to advise me as to what potential second LtCmdr power I'm needing to counter. Say it's the Science Vesta (so Sci Lt Cmdr), did the player outfit it with a Luna layout (low end tac uni), DSSV (Eng) or Intrepid (Sci)?

    So the "see a hull, know it's power loadout" has sailed long ago, can we have the ability to "look" as we want in space and have the loadout we desire?
    Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

    That's old news really, because they already did that with the Intel Stuff. Business-wise it's actually a good decision. The customer side would like more reasonble prices than 30 bucks per ship. :o

    On the one hand I've been looking forward to training my boffs in command as I already separate them in my mind depending on who's officers/enlisted/specialist.

    But on the other hand I like the ships I've got and after grinding to get them all to Tier 5U I'm not going to grind to get Tier 6 ships I don't want. And I'm certainly not going to pay for updated versions of ships I ALREADY HAVE PAID FOR. So I guess half of these new command abilities will be out of reach to me?

    What idiot decided Intel seats could only be sat in by intel officers with the right specialisation? "I'm sorry, you can't use your sweet intel powers at this station because you have to be an expert in science as well for some reason. As you previously studied engineering instead you can't use this computer."

    Well, I dropped sub when they overhauled crafting, and only came back for the Winter ship, only to find out that every ship I've ever had/bought is now sub-par, and now they want to limit my options even more?

    It's not good business if no one is buying, and participation numbers are tanking across the board. I'm certainly suffering no desire to re-sub or buy a ship or anything else for that matter. I fail to see how it's a "good decision". I might have bought ship ugrades if it allowed them to actually be upgraded, but that's kind of useless now.

    Now, a $5 upgrade that lets me add a hybrid position, THAT would be good--a relatively minor charge people are more likely to buy, and buy multiples of. But what incentive is there to buy any of the other ships now, that don't have this capability?

    They devalue every ship purchase ever made, as well as render smaller purchases useless, meaning there's only one thing worth buying, but everyone's feeling taken advantage of so fewer buy it... this is not good business.
