The "PvP Winter Glitter Games 2015" (T5U PvP-Tournament) +++ Rules & Registration +++

Dear PvP-Community,

Ever since the release of Delta Rising the STO playerbase has been getting overwhelmed by the new PvE-content, intense grinding of ressources and expertises/specialization points and long-term R+D school leveling leading into decreasing pvp-activities. Can't have that!

Are you getting tired of the extremely time-consuming and one-sided grind-fest? Are you bored of empty PvP-queues and inactive pvp-battlezones? Then the coming PvP-tourney could be a great possibility for you to experience an adventurous event rich in variety. ;)

All the credits go to the hoster @mcgosmo1 who has initiated the first steps and took it upon himself to organize it. Great work!

Why has the number of players per team been limited to 3 and why are we able to use T5U-ships only?

The organizers have decided to execute the competition in a 3v3 PvP-system due to the shortage of actively playing PvPers. In addition to that, the implementation of a new tier of ships and a new Bridge officer class has impacted the pvp-gameplay significantly. For this reason it has been determined to restrict the maximum tier of usable vessels to T5U.

All playable factions (Klingons, Feds and Romulans) can take part on it.

The following rules with further explanations are listed below:

01. Use of T5U-ships only

02. Not more than 1 of the same ship type and 1 ship with an integrated cloaking device

(Multiple variants of identical ship types such as claimable ones from ship bundles
(odyssey, andorian escort, Vesta etc.) will be counted as equal type of ships and may only be
used once per team)

03. Not more than 1 of each captain type per team (1 Tac, 1 Sci and 1 Eng)

04. A maximum of 2 hangar bays per team (a recluse carrier already comes up with 2 Hangars)

05. No D'Kora EMP burst (its CD can be reduced with aux2batt)

06. No scramble doffs (the ability itself is allowed)

07. Temporal Inversion Field and the stated clickable universal consoles are disallowed: AMS, Fluidic Phase Decoupler and Subspace Integration Circuit (also known as "Black Hole")

08. No Hangar-Yellowstone Runabouts and Elite Interceptors

09. No Neutronic torpedo (Broken) -> automatically excludes the utilization of its 3 piece clickable set bonus "Isokinetic Cannon"

10. All starship traits + the lockbox trait "Failsafe Scrambler" are banned except the ones that can be unlocked via the specialization tree

11. Swapping 2 copies of the same console to bypass cooldown timers is prohibited

12. Gateway has to be accessible (in exceptional circumstances only)

It is much appreciated if you don't derail the thread. You have the opportunity to ignore the rules in case you don't like them.

The tournament is going to be held in 26th of January 2015 - Time 18:00 UTC and will presumably last until the 8th February at the latest.
The assignment of the teams to their groups via random group generator is going to take place in 25th January at the same time.

- German Time: 20.00 Uhr
- British Time: 19 o`clock
- East Cost time: 2.00 p.m. (EST)
- West Coast time: 11.00 a.m. (PST)

The STO-Center Teamspeak will serve as a hub during this event.
Address: ts.scifi-center.de

Check this link to calculate your local time.

Tournament structure:
The competition will be divided into 2 phases: The group stage and the knockout-round.
In the group phase each team has to play each opponent one-time. Once the group phase is finished the first 2 teams of each group are going to qualify for the ko-round which is composed of the semifinals, the battle for the third place and the finale match. The match duration for the first round is set to 20 minutes while the games in the knockout round will be limited to 30 minutes at most or the first team that achieves 15 kills.

Each evening a total of 2 matches are going to be played out and published in McGosmo's Youtube channel subsequently. His channel can be viewed >> here <<.

As opposed to previous tournaments an unique and special feature has been implemented that enables spectators and participants to watch all the matches live via Twitch TV Livestream in HD quality with commentators who will report about the matches! (german language only) So make sure you do not miss one of the games! :D
Moreover, there will be conducted interviews with participating teams after each encounter.

The rewards for the winners will be announced in the last tournament day after the Finale match.

The most important thing is not to win but to take part and to have fun. Show that u are part of the PvP-Community and participate!

If u want to join you can comment this thread or simply contact me in-game.

Please put down the name of your team/fleet and its members.

I am serving as a mediator for the english-speaking playerbase so if further questions persist, feel free to ask me in-game via pm or in-game mail (@usshannibal). :)

Team registration will close if either the objective of 10-16 teams is reached or in 22th January at the latest date.

Kindest Regards

Been so long since I have even flown in a PvP match where I didn't either blow up in a second or visa versa that I doubt I would or could do much in a team setting lol. Good luck with this though, hope it doesn't just taper off like the last few attempts.

Funny how after so long, this still needs to be a rule. Another little snippet of proof for how little the devs care about pvp now.

It is pretty sad actually. On the other end, it's also kinda funny. Even with ALL the TRIBBLE added to the game, the EMP from the D'kora is still dangerous enough because of that bug to still need a rule though.

Anyways, Hannibal, while I don't have a level 60 char atm, and cannot sign up with a team, and probably wouldn't really be as ready as others might by the time this gets around...I will at least sign up by myself for now.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

    Greetings Mimey,

I have added your handle to the registration list, glad that you are willing to join :)
Dont worry about the progress of your char regarding expertise and level, you still have plenty of time to work on it ;)

you are absolutely right, due to these circumstances the core of this rulebook is still based on several No BS rules.

There is only one glitterpony. ...

    His name, was MT.

He was dutch, and he frequently had to "go feed his guinea pig" .... which I believe was code for some sort of hax.

Most of the time he was very quiet, but when he did speak, visions of hulls being blown to bits danced in your head....like kids and sugar plums from the Christmas songs of yore....

Just asking, are there any "mark" restrictions? I mean, considering the boost to mk 14 weapons, having those ones in this type of tournament would be game changing i think...

Why won't you ban three most powerful ships in their class: xindi escort, wells and recluse? Thus we won't know all the ships in finals right now.

Apparently, there are no restrictions to the mark of weapons. The rules were made before the devs in charge decided to buff mk 13+14 arms. Besides, it would have taken alot of efforts to examine each player's equipment one by one via gateway if they introduced this condition.

Variety. These ships are great. Too great. Just like in old no bs tournaments all top matches contained temporal ships, bugs, recluses with several other ships. Sure it's extremely cool to fly the wells but if players themselves don't encourage diversity how can we expect that from cryptic?

    10. All starship traits are banned except the ones that can be unlocked via the specialization
tree as well as the lockbox trait "Failsafe Scrambler"

So this means that all captain traits, that are on the trait list by default when you level a character are banned, along with lock-box traits (pattern recognition, inspirational leader etc), along with t6 ship traits, leaving only "fail-safe scrambler", possibly the most controversial and annoying runaway trait that could be used in an arena situation.

You may need to elaborate on that rule.

    Those are Captain Traits.
On the other hand, Starship traits are the ones unlockable through T6 ships (e.g. Reciprocity, Viral Torp). :)

What Hanni is saying is: "no Starship traits (look above for what they are) and No failsafe scrambler.

They are good ships for sure and probably the pinnacle of its ship class in this tier since they outperform all the other ones, however they also have their weaknesses in certain situations. The ships you named may represent the vulnerable point in a team if falsely used against specific strategies, for instance a recluse isnt the best choice against vapers. a wells isnt the best choice against damage-heavy team setups dealing constant suppression damage such as faw teams etc.

Meanwhile these vessels have adequate substitutions in its rows. The variety of usable ships in pvp keeps increasing as cryptic releases more ship types. During the era of the No BS tournaments the amount of varied ships was by far lower than nowadays leading into less diverse team configs and that's the reason why bugships, recluses, wells were commonly utilized and why they formed the backbone of most premade team.

If the hoster decides to exclude the above mentioned ones he would even effect the opposite of your desire for variety in pvp: Less possible options of usable ships for the tourney.

hi, thx for posing this important question.
You may have misinterpreted something. The rule implies that all starship traits that can be received by completing a t6 starship mastery (T6 ships being purchasable in the zan store or obtainable from special events like Q's winterwonderland, R&D promotion) are forbidden except the starship traits which can be unlocked in the spec tree (Pedal to the Medal, Predictive Algorythms)

The traits to which you are referring deal with the captain traits and lockbox traits and all of them are allowed to be slotted apart from the Failsafe Scrambler. The scrambler is disallowed ofc.

    Example:

    Captain traits = http://i.imgur.com/Ghi6p6F.jpg

    Starship traits = http://i.imgur.com/l0uC2s6.jpg

I rephrased the rule for your convenience and for a clearer comprehension in order to avoid further misconceptions ;)

1 rule I would like to see added is No TDF because it is not a fair playing field since KDF don't have access to it and the Feds already have all of the good KDF consoles.

If not completely removing TDF, at least limit it to 1 per team, because having 3 of them on a team while limiting the team to only 1 cloaked ship is imbalanced.

Like I said though, it would be better if it was banned altogether since it is the most powerful console in the game that is not cross-faction.

Agreed. Allowing TDF is going to put off alot of kdf teams.
