How about I have 10 billion patrols to repeat instead of shooting snowmen?
Wow. There is a new KDF Science ship. I'll be!

Well it is fun now :) .

I tried a queue today ,even if I have the accolade, and it was a funny glorious battle because there were not enough people and snowman poured all over the lanes.I enjoyed more than before when we killed the snowman on the lanes.Maybe I will do it from time to time -just for fun but there is no reason to do it again and again.

Probably if Cryptic would add some dilithium to this mission people would play it more.

Edit : And some XP because everybody wants to fill specialization bars.A healty 10000 XP would bring people back in queues I guess

I think the store unlock is because Tides is broken. I was doing it for the accolade anyway. Got it on one character and 9/10 on the second before the patch. I didn't get the completion reward one time before the patch, I think because the queen went down two fast.

Now, no completion reward. How do you go in to make getting rewards easier, and end up removing them.

Cryptic, please hit the undue button.

The stupid thing is i didn't hate this little event, without any rewards tho i don't feel like putting the effort in.
If they do manage to fix this event may i put forward a suggestion, make the snorg queen that little bit tougher ( she dies in seconds ).

I like this event a lot, but since after 2 patches, it's still not giving accolades and rewards, it's soured me to it. Just played it all the way through and got nothing in the end.

At the beginning or WW the requirements were confusing. You had to double click on an item to find out how many events needed to get access, rather than check info. Finally, they put clear explanation in yellow. That this wasn't thought of from the start is mind-boggling.

I'm sorry. The winter event is a nice break and a fun idea, but Cryptic shenanigans and customer TRIBBLE bugs are a massive turn off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if an event is actually fun for the majority of people, wouldn't they do it even without needing to?

I think it's less about "crybabies" and more about "creating fun and engaging content".

I think it's also less about 'crybabies' and more about 'not actually giving you anything because it's broken'.

I haven't read the rest of the thread, though, so this may already have been stated.

At this rate Cryptic had better start putting all events on Tribble first, you know, just to check that the bloody things actually work... ;)

    Just saying.

That's not even just a ToI problem - all the snowbosses in WW are pitifully weak, except for the one in the Gingerbread Village.

Perhaps the event is broken, that is not enough reward pay out.

As with most things in DR, the Time to Reward ratio is out of whack.
I've done this a few times since the patch and got a pitiful amount of ornaments. Less than if I do the recipe quest or the invasion. Those are far quicker to do than ToI. So, yeah, of course they are dead.
    I mean, really?

It's dead because it's broken, sillyheads.

I hope they fix it by Thursday, otherwise we basically lose it for the year.

You are what's wrong with the game. Not the devs, not the systems, not the "grind", YOU and your attitude. You avoid playing a mission that is widely hailed as fun because you can earn trinkets more effectively elsewhere, treating the game like a spreadsheet instead of a game. So, you have abandoned something that people had a blast doing and left it dead, because you stopped being paid and/or coerced to do it. Congratulations, jerk.

    That's funny.
Tells you all you need to know if you have to coerce people to play content, no?

I'm curious, why is it widely hailed as fun?
You sit there, and press two buttons to mindlessly shoot snow borg .. wave after wave after wave. You can't heal, use abilities, any strategy or avoidance. You either have enough people or you don't.

I would argue you are what is wrong with the game

It's pretty fun with say 1 to 4 people.

When you solo it they only come down 2 lanes so you run back and forth and see how long you can hold them off. Then you have all the new toys to play with as well. If you don't like the gingerbread defense squad and seaweed crows feet (from the German) then you truly are a grinch!

Me and one other player did the event alone.
    Now that was fun.
When the Queen is dead before I even reach her? Not so much.

If there a way to get better rewards then why play the Tide of Ice game. What's fun about shooting waves of assimilated snowmen borg mindlessly like a animal chasing a carrot stick? Just saying.

I've actually quite enjoyed ToI more after the patch.... now I am just playing with people who have fun there rather than people whose sole goal was facerolling it for trinkets.

the same can be said with those who don't like the races. personally i'd like to see autographs as part of TOI rewards

It was a mildly entertaining event, before they broke it. Now that you don't get rewards at the end, it just fills up time until something else cools down.

They seem to break 3 things for every 1 thing they fix. Glad I don't own their stock - they fail to produce deliverables consistently.

That would not be a half bad idea - multiple ways to get autographs! Because (in my view) more options are always a good thing.

That is, it would not be a half bad idea if Tides of Ice wasn't flippin' well broken.

I'd happily do it - I was happily doing it - for the accolade. Now I can't get the accolade, so, y'know, I'm not going to bother. (OK, yeah, it still rewards a few winter commodities. It's not like I'm short of those from other sources.)

Worth pointing out, too, that the mindless repetition does get to be a bit of a pain. This is a fun event, yes, the first few times, as you figure out what's going on, and work out strategies for coping with it. But after those first few times... mindless grind, again. I'm not one of those people with 45 different toons (how the heck do they find time?), but even so, the number of times I'd have had to run it, to get that accolade on all mine - well, it would be enough times for me to get heartily sick of the whole business.

Of course, that's an academic point right now, since the event is flippin' broken.

I enjoyed Tides of Ice, even with the the stupid requirement of 10 runs per alt.

I also loved the discount on buy the ships - THAT - was a great idea. Have tricked out 2 breen carriers with the core, and am very happy with them both.

And I have no desire to return to WW. There's no need for me. Im not into costumes or nano-pulse weapons. I have 1000+ Q 8x10's saved for next year. The race is fun, for the marks - but I can't seem to be there at the right time. The mark rewards for the effort are nice.

WW interferes with the countless hours needed to upgrade. The clicking, the sorting, the choosing of the right doff. (Don't forget the doffing) The failing of pugged missions. And the NOT PLAYING of DR. And the hours spent on the forum endlessly pointing out the player base has declined, and the game has become 'Talaxian Personnel Management in Space'.

It's taken me a month to get my ships and gear on 7 alts to a point where all 7 could participate in the very missions needed to upgrade them in the first place. Even with a year of grinding on 7 alts prior to DR, I still forked out 350$ and am not quite done.

Don't think I'll ever be done.

And guess who I share this fountain of abject joy and peace? Not my fleetmates. They have left in droves, and started a new guild in RIFT. Not with my friends list - that's dropped from an active 100+ to less than 6 at any given moment.

And not with the hordes of players that are NOT in WW. They're hidden due to a reporting glitch.

I am done with my FED on this Tide of Ice got what I wanted from Winter Wonderland. I don't see anything else I would need from it. So now on to my ROM and KDF to complete two prizes I seek. I am not after the Breen Ship don't need it.

I personally think some autographs should be given for all Winter Land activities. Queues and DOFF should give a.minimum of one and then three by chance.

    That's my personal opinion.

To some degree, that's what the game has become and that is what is wrong with it. And no need for insults, not exactly mature.

At the start of the event I think people were really getting into TOI, zone chat was always full of people talking about it and during it, enjoying themselves.
The requirement for 10 runs to unlock things I personally think was fine, if you insist on having so many toons that you need to devote hours and hours grinding out every single item for them then that is your choice - deal with the consequences.

Now though everyone has the items unlocked, they have the core for their carriers, they have the ground kit items. So nobody is playing anymore.
There's just no incentive to play the mission now so hence it dies.

If it just offered a reasonable chance for some extra glossy photos or even dilithium I think it would draw people back in. The mission itself is not too bad realy and can be fun.
But were back the the same problem with the PVE queues again - no incentive to play due to poor rewards.

I can't see it getting better though, the PVE queues have suffered a similar fate and they (devs) have ignored or outright lied about the problem and that is true endgame content not some fun winter event.

It became Spreadsheets Online when I suddenly needed one to keep track of the constantly ner... updated XP situation and to get an idea of how many years at my current progress rate it is going to take me to accomplish my goals.

As for ToI, the thing I will be doing many times is the race. I need 1000 autographs. I needed a handful of trinkets and 10 runs. Now I don't need 10 runs and have trinkets enough to buy the kit modules 10 times over and still get the core.
