    Seriously yes it is tedious when meeting up with random people has random outcomes. If someone is being jerky, bail out and find a better behaved team. There is no leaver penalty unless you go through the automatic team finder.

    its very difficult to get rid of these people in a f2p game even if they banned the ip and the usernames and characters.

    In Ultima Online we had gamemasters who actually did a job - they where not just people who copy/pasted spammed responses.

    If somebody reported harassment, they would turn up (invisible) and observe what was occurring before taking action.

    I dot think it can be said this game is to big to handle this kind of interaction, as LOTRO also has a large number of subscribers and employs a similar policy (their game masters also actually turn up to help out if you are stuck or a mission bugs out).

    that is fine but its the free accounts not subscribers and they do get rid of gold spammers :)

    Judging by the fact that there are numbers at the end of those usernames I would say they have been banned before lol.

    Question: Why should we be inconvenienced because he finds it more fun to f**k with people than play the game? Shouldn't it be the other way 'round?

    The early leaver debuff needs to be got rid of, or seriously curtailed. To many people abuse it in order to troll. The very people it is meant to protect at being abused through the system.

    LOTRO is a free-to-play game just like STO. If they can make it work there, it can work here.

    Or they just like sticking random numbers on the end. My usernames alternate between StarSword and StarSword-C because sometimes StarSword is already taken and sometimes it isn't.

    That is a seriously good shot, especially the 'fly away'. We need a 'dirty harry' to get rid of certain 'diva's' in this game.

    Love Dirty Harry :)

    So you want someone to be shot because they don't do what you want in a video game? That's what Dirty Harry does, right?

    He's right you know.

    Seriously, though, what ability removal or nerf to Tac and Sci captains would you apply to balance the loss or nerf of Cover Shield. It's one of the most useful abilities an Engineer has available, capable of defending the (irritatingly) stationary emplacements they use, a specific point against enemy action or passage, and the Engineer or a party member if they are taking heavy fire. There are doffs specifically designed to interact with it, which came from the Romulan Survivor Duty Officer Pack. Properly used, it can be the single most useful captain ability an Engineer has on the ground due to the strategies it allows.

    What ability would you give up on your Tac or Sci captains to balance against this, or what ability would you suggest granting to Engineers to replace it? Would you give up Tactical Initiative, or Tricorder Scan? Would you give Engineers the ability to grant temporary hitpoints and/or make all of their Turrets/Generators mobile? What would you be wiling to give to the non-trolls to make up for letting those trolls win even harder by getting Engineers that weren't even on the map with you nerfed?

    That is what removing Cover Shield would do by the way... it would let the trolls' antics affect players they didn't even team with. You, OP, are helping them to troll by proxy. Good job.

    Yeah that was a film and this is a game. Both are imaginary. So take your dramatic indignation elsewhere :)

    FYI: 'Shot' also refers to a very good directors 'shot'. Thus the 'fly away' comment.

    THis "TROLL" has been reported to cryptic, and they apparently have not acted:

    Player (been named before, cryptic has not cancelled his accounts (all are the same person)

    @Diabolica191
    @Diabol1cal91
    @joecool82
    @badname1234632

    I know of at least TEN (10) different players that have reported this issue to Cryptic, but it seems he is still playing. Why does cryptic not act to block him? he does not play STO, he only disrupts other players trying to play.

    There are multiple threads on this forum about this, but it seems paying players have to suffer through this.

    The main thread for this is:

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1304241

    But since you posted here I would like to point out the problem is not as simple as banning a single address, addressing the root of the attacks that have been ongoing for months and the methods they use to abuse takes work and planning. I suggest patience meanwhile, I have been in touch with devs, they know the problems in full and know what to do. Those of us who know will continue to observe and provide devs with all the support we can. If you see new attacks and fresh duplicate names, record it and report immediately under the Game -> Report a player category. STO is a strong community and it will overcome this threat as it has many others. As they will find, time is running out for those who menace STO.

    In this case that ship sailed a long time ago. Even Geko himself posted in the main thread on this TRIBBLE without apparently caring that people identified him.

    2) Without getting proof, it would be a bad idea to ban people. Images and videos can be modified. The ONLY way to get people banned would be if we had actual GMs who when called about this can go in the instance, see for themselves and then ban said person. We do not have GM in game.
    There is a stack of reports from a zillion different players about this particular TRIBBLE a kilometer long. How much more proof do you really need?

    Cover shields last two minutes but the ability has a one-minute cooldown, right?

    Drop the duration to 90 seconds and increase the CD to two minutes. Problem solved.

    Eh, I'd rather not have my cover shield gotten rid of, thank you. I use it to hide my medical and shield generators from fire, as they usually get targeted before anything else.

    This.

    The Cover Shield ability is just too useful, and too big of a life saver, to get rid of.

    On another thread CrypticFrost confirmed they are trying to deal with the individual in question.

    Now, rather than trying to turn this into a donnybrook (Coldnapalm), lets see what results can be achieved by Cryptic. It appears they know the seriousness of the problems being created by "STO Enemy #1"..... can I call him this Coldnapalm?

    It took us about 15 min jumping around, but finally with some luck we successfully pushed him back with another cover shield. Far enough so that two of us could slip trough and finish the map.

    Why not make the cover shield a little lower. Turrets can still be protected and players can dug behind it using crouch. In the mean time you can jump over it.

    The only problem I see is that it is difficult to use on an npc.

    I recently saw two players do a very similar thing at Delta Quadrant Command. They had initially set up two cover shields on the bridge leading from the transporter room into the main hub, and stood their toons with dance emotes on behind the shields watching crowds of players running out of the transporter area, but unable to get into the hub. Eventually people started being able to jump over the shields, so they ran off, but soon reappeared, setting up two shields in the actual doorway to the transporter room, so that everyone beaming in to DQ Command was totally trapped in there. Similar dancing and taunting of the trapped players ensued.

    In my opinion, I support the idea that cover shields should only block fire and AI characters, and that player characters should be able to pass through them at will.

    This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

    Why would anyone want to block other players from accessing certain areas?
    Just to TRIBBLE off other players?
    Laughs?

    I've never witnessed it but really seems like a huge D I C K manuever to me.

    Uhm where is the point in having those covering shields not being able to simply be passable for players? I mean enemy NPCs or PvP opponents could still be hold at bay just not “none-opponent” ones.

    This happened again on the weekend in the Klingon Academy.

    Three bubble shields at the entrance to the building that houses the lore terminal, banks etc. No one could get in or out.

    Simple fix was to change to instances, but still it shouldn't be allowed.

    Given that some posted the handles of players (against T&C's) in this thread last year, I'm guessing Cryptic ain't reading it no more...

    I was just thinking the same thing...

    There's no reason that cover shields have to be a solid object for players, provided the shield is between you and what ever it is you're seeking cover from, there's no reason for it to be solid...

    Making cover shields passable to players, but not weapons fire and NPCs removes the ability to use them for trolling, while still providing their intended purpose...

    With the Summer Event only a month or two away, this may indeed be something to consider as they were being used last year to disrupt players during the surfboard races - if they haven not already been disabled entirely on Risa that is...
    The entitlement is strong in these forums...

    They should just make it so that player characters can move through the shields but NPC's and weapon fire cannot.

    This isn't a recent thing, there was a troll years ago that used to sit in the narrow entrance of paradise lost on nimbus and block access too and from the town using a shield almost 24/7. Fortunately it was easy to get around by simply switching instances, but it was annoying, especially to a low level player who might not know about instance switching yet.
