One thought though. If more players go for the upgrades now after such an incentive do you have any plans to increase space critter hit point in the foreseeable future again?
Just asking. I enjoy playing games and spending time and money on them but, as you can imagine, would like to understand the rules which seem to simply change a lot as of late.

Yay - Aux2Bat BFAW becomes even MORE OP. Wonderful.
Yeah man, I know... it totaly sux:(
Mr Geko, how about making also all the cannons to use the "hidden" weapon energy overcap as beams do? Beams, with almost 360 degree area of efect skils like Beam Fire at Will greatly outperform cannons right now, and on top of that they drain from the overcap, players reaching easy 160 weapon power overcap or even more. I imagine with new breen core, oberth console (or kdf equivalent) and OSS probably even 200  So we are forced to put ap beams on an escort to even have a chance at some of the harder content??? Its ridiculous and its against the canon too...
Still not going to upgrade weapons. Tac consoles, yeah, but I like to switch weapon's type/version around; so upgrading the actual weapons themselves, is out of the question..
Totally agree. Upgrading is still far too expensive given the across the board dilithium nerfs. I can see the weapon damage buffs compensating a bit for the increased hp critters got but even if the modifications are appealing, the grind to get enough ec/dilithium is simply too much, for me anyways. I upgraded one weapon type to XIII along with a few consoles and one engine set. It drained all my resources from 11 alts.
If I could resupply with moderate effort, that would be one thing but I can't. The only ways available to me would require too many hours of grinding content that isnt fun for me or dropping large amounts of cash into the game which Ive chosen not to do anymore until I see some easing of rewards on Cryptics part.
Thanks for posting this clarification Mr. Rivera (no sarcasm). It's always appreciated.
So, could someone quickly tell me whether the +8% for cannons vs. +4% for beams was bull? Or is it real? Cuz that's what kinda what I foremost wanted to know: whether one weapon type is getting a nerf (or a buff vs. the other, however you want to put it).
One thought though. If more players go for the upgrades now after such an incentive do you have any plans to increase space critter hit point in the foreseeable future again?
It is more likely that - when their metrics say enough players have upgraded - they will just nerf this mechanic (they like nerfing). Oh and of course because we like upgrading so much they will then just release some other expensive stuff with slightly more base dmg and we will happily buy these things and upgrade them too. Then they will repeat this a few times (they also like doing repetitive things) and then .. we get the critter hp/dmg increase - and more non optional optionals (because they like this too).
no, seriously - i just dont see the carrot anymore. just the stick. and the stick says do what we want or i'll beat the f*cking sh*t out of you.
This still does nothing to address the massive power gap between fresh level 60 players and level 60 players with maxed out spec trees. In fact it kind of makes it worse. Remember back when you totally overhauled the Rep system traits because you didn't want a 'huge divide between fresh level 50 players and long standing level 50 players'... Then you did this...
Geko logic, because metrics.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.

Thank God, I was afraid we didn't have enough DPS focus in this game...
I'd have much rather preferred that the PRICE of upgrading to Mk14 was lowered instead of making players feeling forced to spend gobs of Dilithium to stay competitive. Obviously the current price wasn't worth the increase in damage to most players who would see a Mk 14 and go "Eh, I'll just stick w/ my Mk 12s". Just more Star Grind Online.
The result (if not the intent) is a bit worse than that.
I think their real intent is to make the improvement more noticed because people are making do with Mk 12s and they aren't running the upgrade and DPS treadmill. This is an attempt to move things closer to the point where running that treadmill will be required if you wish to advance at any significant pace in the game. This will worsen long term as a they rebalance the game around the top end DPS. Those Nerfs to NPC hit points we saw? Expect them to be walked back to some extent.
The long term result however will be a bit different from Cryptic's intent, at least for most of the user base. Alts will be even more sidelined to being DOFF runners at best, more casual players will leave or drop to doing nothing but DOFF and social play until there is a another sea change in the game design (which is already basically where I'm at currently).
Money wise, they may make up the lost income with Whales. so Cryptic may be happy. The rest of us will have to examine individually the costs and outcomes of this game and decide if we stay with it.
Thank you for the communication Gecko. This damage boost will certainly help the folks doing 4-7k damage on their mkxiv gear. However, aside from incentivizing players to upgrade their gear it does not remedy the fundamental issue in my opinion that the gap between those that know how to build and those new players that don't have a clue.
I still see folks doing 1.5 to 2k dps in pugs, this will do nothing to help these players. How about adding some in depth build tutorials in game designed by expert players? A tutorial on damage, tanking and science builds such as drain and control I believe would be very helpful.
I think it's awful for anyone to sink their time and money upgrading a 1.5k dps build which in the end the player will derive no satisfaction from. if I was one of those players I would quit. I can't imagine that you want to lose new players, but would rather see them stick around maybe create an alternate character and spend more money in your game.
Am I correct in saying these changes will also be applied to already upgraded weapons after the patch is in place? I won't have to upgrade new ones afresh?
u guys ever heard of a phrase "never change a running system"?!... u redo what did work allover again and again while not touching once what is in need of fixes loooong time...
nubs lulz.... can i get some real and caring lead devs on ebay?! :P:rolleyes:.. get those dev-bots to another game plz!
Ditto. I'm not taking part in the upgrade lottery. Seems like a desperate ploy to get people to use the upgrade system to me.
This is my feeling too.
If they're getting this desperate for our cash then the game can't be doing as well as they keep saying. It's like a man pretending to be a millionaire while holding up a sign asking for your spare change.

Without wanting to make you waste dilithium on somethnig you may not need or want: There is no lottery to get to Mark XIV. And the changes only affect the upgrades from Mark XII to XIII and XIV.
This is not about boosts for Ultra-Rare/Epic (TheOtherBlue/Gold), which is a lottery.
*tehee* Geko said "PvP"
so how does this help with getting rid of powercreep as it was planned for DR and the level cap increase? I m honestly asking, as i just dont see it. Fresh lvl 60 toons vs. EPIC VET Mk XIV toon seems at an even bigger disadvantage then pre-DR?
thx for the explanations. but personally i don't care about power, weapons and "who have the biggest?".
i want more communication about your future projects and also some explanations about the dilithium nerf.
this game isn't just only about power, weapons, guns, etc; it is also an experience where you can imagine to be in the Star Trek world. if i want to play at a shooter, np there are a lot of shooter on internet; but STO is more than that
don't let a minority who thinks, lives and dreams about DPS ruining this great game. btw these players must have some troubles

Because its a very thinly veiled attempt to force players to spend RL money if they wish to stay competitive or face months of grind.
But #$%^@ing gauls me is the fact that we have expected to dish out TRIBBLE loads of money for the same TRIBBLE over, and over and over again.
How many cycles have these ships, and weapons been through already.
I am fed up with the Polarised Tetryon Phased Neutronolised Oxidised Dual Quadroponic Nebulised Ping-pong fantasmic Mk. XXXXXIV TRIBBLE already!!!
How you mate Good to see you around after all these years. Always liked you. NOT in THAT KINDA way!!!!!

the correct roman notation would be: LIV *scnr* :P
So what you're saying is, torps would function like beams and cannons. Good.

Well I can only hope the "computer" being used for collecting the "metrics" is NOT the computer in my signature!

I'd be seriously interested in the thought process behind this, but I'm at a point where I highly doubt there is one.
