Just listen to him talk about patrols and exp. Listen. They don't square with what is actually going on in-game.
I never liked Geko to begin with, but this is a new low.
Congrats, I guess.
I think he playing with himself ...i mean STO yes STO
Because we all know
Delta Rising is the greatest expansion ever and the players love it
After listening to that last interview with Geko....I've come to the following conclusions.
He likely does play the game although I wonder if he allows himself some shortcuts.
The game post dr is generally the way he feels it should be going forward
And the scary part for my long term sto plans....he talked about future level cap increases in no uncertain terms.
One might assume that mark level increases on your items would follow with a level cap increase so the nightmare scenerio is you put in the huge expense and effort to upgrade stuff you already bought just to have the bar set higher. Then, you get to upgrade all over again. Those who didn't upgrade inthe DR world just get to either fall further behind or get on the upgrade bandwagon.
Bottom line is I could see a cap Increase everytime cryptic needs a spike in revenue and leaving us the option of continually running on the hamster wheel or jumping off. That's not fun or fair really and there are plenty of ways to get us to spend money we might actually enjoy....oh well.
I've listened to the entire podcast twice since yesterday. It was eye opening in a good way.
For the most part Gecko gave a lot of insight into the process, and the touched on problems with a heavy twist company spin. I GREATLY appreciate some of his honesty as to how the balancing is going, and that they've got a lot of work to do.
The biggest point he made was that they see you upgrading 1 item, 1 rank, every 2 hours of game time. That is the progression they were trying for.
Ok. I'm fine with that. It was the cavalcade of unfortunate events, bugs, exploits etc that really bolluxed what was supposed to have been a great release.
Financially though, it was the best launch in the history of the game. Better than launch. That's the good news.
My favourite 'company spin moments' include:
1.) What Dil nerf? There are more ways to get dil now.
Partially true, but not during the launch of DR. I do believe the forum rage may have played a role in it being reinstated. Note: this is the THIRD time they tried it.
2.) What XP nerf? Gecko thinks will definitely get cheaper "I promise" as more crafters produce...
The fans of the game generally refer to the 2-part nerf: adjusting the costs of space gear (resale value) by a factor of 6, and effectively removing farming missions. As for prices coming down, don't hold your breath.
3.) It only costs 5000 dil to upgrade 1 weapon.
Yes. If you're playing with XII common weapons at end game. Which of course is what everyone plays with.
4.) The queues are not empty. Our metrics show different. What displays in the game is the result of a glitch.
Uhuh. And the same problem exists in our fleet rosters.
There were other interesting tidbits on upgrades, future projects (new UI), and a tweak that's complete that will increase Mark XIV damage substantially.
Summary: DR was a win for the company. The Winter event has a lot of work into it (looks great btw), and that runs right into the 5-th year anniversary event in January. Overall - thumbs up.
I finally listened to as much as this podcast as I could stomach
So the queue reporting is bugged, eh? Its not an issue that theyre, you know, EMPTY? Thats a relief now I can PUG with confidence that NOTHING will go wrong.
What a PR whitewashing campaign. I havent seen something try that hard to gild a TRIBBLE since Jersey Boys.
STO is wounded, bleeding, and hiding in a corner, just waiting for someone to finish it off. Does it have a chance at survival? Sure, but that wholly depends on the ones trying to shoot it down.
From what I could tell he has been playing a special "in-house" version of the game. 35 hours to progress 10 levels breaks down to 3.5 hours per level, yes? heh. I wish. It took me a 3.5 hours just to get the last section of bar filled so that I would only have one whole level more to go to get to the next bit of story**.
Jesse Heinig so far has been the one honest interview I've heard. Stuff like that is NOT fun and is not what was intended. I'll give Geck some points: Yes, the server deal was MUCH better this time around compared to LoR. And i'm sure lots of money has poured in so people can transform Zen to Dil which was a big company goal. However--if we take him at his word--the queues are dead, since supposedly that bug that showed incorrect numbers has been fixed. A couple of nights ago, counting people waiting on a match, and those already playing the total was not more than 80.
Al, it is time to face up: everything is not always the players fault. Sometimes the problem is you (cryptic).
**tired of hearing about the great story of DR. It is based on Voyager, which I loathe. Worse than that, the best thing the Federation could do is to sit back and let the Kobali and Vadwaar wipe each other out.

It is what it is.
Remember the days when Daniel Stahl used to say they wouldn't raise the level cap without the content to support the increase?
21. MinosOne - Q: I understand that one of the goals of Season 4 is to allow players to start from level one as a Klingon player. What additions to Klingon game-play can be expected once this occurs (such as additional Klingon missions, playable races, costumes, etc.)?
A: We will be looking at all the missions available to the KDF and looking for gaps that need episodes to help players have a smooth level progression. This may even include re-leveling some existing content to make leveling up smoother.
"My big fear is that we'll raise the level cap and then there's nothing to do."
"On any given day you can find yourself all over the quadrant running missions in a variety of environments instead of being stuck grinding rabbits in the slums until you level and move on to somewhere 'new.'"
Guess D'Angelo and Geko went the opposite direction and screwed the game. Stahl seen the danger.
d stahl lied to people day after day and game was in worst shape it ever was. at least good content and material has been added. granted people are unhappy with delta rising. but according to what i heard in the interview is everything is broken and not giving out the experience the missions, patrols etc are suppose too. but i didnt hear when a fix for it was coming.

Right. Then they didn't bother to test it out fully on Tribble knowing players would have issues with the changes.
They choose to just put it on Holodeck without any full testing. As for the fixes, that could be now or never. Considering the latest reviews, forums on fire, and bad word of mouth spreading like wild fire.
They need to fix the game ASAP because daily it's getting worst. Geko needs to stop insulting the player base also.

Not really. Dan always came across as a greasy used car salesman to me. He always seemed to say what people wanted to hear at the time, then used weasel words to get out of being nailed down to any kind of 'promise' later on.
I assume that means that only white knights and other members of the Cryptic Defense Force are not allowed to use personal attacks. That makes sense to me, since they are the "good" guys, and have to behave, right?

Partially true, but not during the launch of DR. I do believe the forum rage may have played a role in it being reinstated. Note: this is the THIRD time they tried it.
As he pointed out - before Delta Rising, ony the Borg STFs paid out Dilithium. Now all the queued events (other than fleet missions, which will be next) are paying out Dilithium.
That means there are now more sources for Dilithium in the game than before. You can do your Infected Run and in the cooldown period do some other queues to earn Dilithium. The Battle Zones pay out better than before, too.
The only real nerf was to the 6 old STFs, other sources have been added. The real problem is probably however all the extra reasons you need Dilithium.
2.) What XP nerf? Gecko thinks will definitely get cheaper "I promise" as more crafters produce...

I think you're talking about the Energy Credit nerf, not the XP nerf? I was surprised that Priority One didn't know what this was about! That should have cleared up things and maybe we could have gotten a better answer.
3.) It only costs 5000 dil to upgrade 1 weapon.
Yes. If you're playing with XII common weapons at end game. Which of course is what everyone plays with.
The rarity of a weapon has no impact on the cost of upgrading it a Mark. Set items however cost more to upgrade then non-set items, though most weapons are not set items.
What are you trying to say here?
4.) The queues are not empty. Our metrics show different. What displays in the game is the result of a glitch.
He states the following:
1) he has no data to prove or disprove that the queues are getting slower.
2) There was a bug in the display, but it is now fixed. He is not saying that the current numbers you see are wrong.
3) He says that people play more and longer. That doesn't mean they will end up in the queues, however. Of course we don't know when he last looked into the data.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Not really. Dan always came across as a greasy used car salesman to me. He always seemed to say what people wanted to hear at the time, then used weasel words to get out of being nailed down to any kind of 'promise' later on.
That strikes me as an incredibly balanced comment, honestly, and reinforces my feeling that he was a fairly honest person who mainly got himself in trouble by telling us what he'd like to do rather than what he could do. Now, the resources are possibly there to make good on more of that kind of thinking. A greasy used car salesman doesn't tell you what they recognize intellectually (in this case the validity of the complaint) and what they feel as a human being and admit that there's a difference.
I like that. He was more interested in trying to connect (not always pleasantly but always connect) than always being right or always being accurate. That's the right path in my opinion.
As he pointed out - before Delta Rising, ony the Borg STFs paid out Dilithium. Now all the queued events (other than fleet missions, which will be next) are paying out Dilithium.

Great. Can I play both at the same time with one character? Because otherwise, it's a nerf.
I wasn't using the cooldown period most days. I wasn't shooting for 8000 all the time. I just wanted a decent chunk for a quick game.
But this isn't a huge issue for me. Prior to the XP nerf, I was hitting the cap more than ever and getting quite a bit from events. It was roping me into certain types of play over others I'd prefer and generally the opportunity cost made me feel guilty for replaying missions or spending time in the Foundry, which is part of why I haven't authored anything in a long time. I feel guilty spending time in the Foundry because it feels like an unproductive use of leisure time.
I think you're talking about the Energy Credit nerf, not the XP nerf? I was surprised that Priority One didn't know what this was about! That should have cleared up things and maybe we could have gotten a better answer.
I think they're all starting to blur together for people.
The rarity of a weapon has no impact on the cost of upgrading it a Mark.
This is a technicality as a rebuttal. Upgrading includes marks and rarity. Yes, it is TECHNICALLY accurate to say that someone doesn't "need" purple gear or that this is a separate decision but TECHNICALLY is not the same as EMOTIONALLY. Which is the level I want businesses to interface on. Don't stop at the letter of the law. Engage customer desire. If people are used to purple or better gear, then you're talking a technicality if you're talking about upgrading gear to anything less than at least Mk XII and at least purple.
If I have to engage in technicalities, I have to watch my back. This should never happen with a leisure/entertainment service provider. It takes the leisure out of the interaction. People should come here to feel pampered, not to engage in Wall Street level intrigue. This shouldn't be EVE. A player in a casual MMO shouldn't have to rely on the fine print and somebody selling the product shouldn't need to engage in technicalities. This is a leisure service. It should be a "keep the change" friendly atmosphere.

This strikes me as equivocating. He stakes out positions and then defends it territoriality, often with incomplete statements and throwing a lot of doubt. In short, he is interested in being correct, accurate, and "the winner" of conversation. I would gladly sacrifice all three of these things for someone who seems to listen and connect.
I said it before and stick to it... they are lying to the players.
Of course they wont lay down their metrics to the players because it would take too much time to fake them.
People play more and longer?
Could it be because the "log in every day between 14th and 28th and you get a reward"?... could it be that it is somehow related that during the times of legacy of romulus we didnt have a daily rep mark bonus?... could it be that is somehow related to the massive time that it takes these days to do even the smallest tasks in the game?
I see nothing that would indicate that playing more and longer has any relation with the delta rising content.
Great. Can I play both at the same time with one character? Because otherwise, it's a nerf.
Not exactly the same time - but during the cooldown, you have now plenty of other options to earn dilithium. If you only played the 15 minutse a day, then it may be a nerf - but maybe then Infected wasn't the best use of that time either, and you may be better off now in a Battle Zone
I wasn't using the cooldown period most days. I wasn't shooting for 8000 all the time. I just wanted a decent chunk for a quick game.

I almost never make the cap, unless there are special events going on that pay out big. I currently juggle 3 characters to get crafting up and get the Delta reputation finished on one character so he can make sponsorship tokens.

You don't need upgradse to geto to Mark XII purples. If you're still on common Mark XIIs or lower, you don't need to use the upgrade. You need upgrades to get to Mark XIII or Mark XIV, and to get to gold (and whatever is the color supposed to be that's between purple and gold but can't be called blue.)
If I have to engage in technicalities, I have to watch my back. This should never happen with a leisure/entertainment service provider. It takes the leisure out of the interaction. It seems to me that Geko et all need to focus a lot on technicalities, because people always want to interpret their words in the worst ways. But I guess that comes with the territory.
I think I don't get what you mean here - do you think a lot of people are trying to get their Mark XII commons or whatever to Mark XIV Golds and don't realize how wasteful that be? What do you have to watch your back about?
This strikes me as equivocating. He stakes out positions and then defends it territoriality, often with incomplete statements and throwing a lot of doubt. In short, he is interested in being correct, accurate, and "the winner" of conversation. I would gladly sacrifice all three of these things for someone who seems to listen and connect.
Of course he's interested in being correct. He doesn't want to be called a liar because he was mistaken about something. The important thing you can take from it in my opinion is not that he wants to be correct, but that if the queues are now less populated, he doesn't know, and that it may mean that your observation is entirely correct.
But if the observation is correct, the conclusion thta the game is losing players in masses and peope play less is not supported.
I also found interesting in general how he compared LOR vs. DR. LOR was something to gain new players, since it was adding stuff new players could use, while DR was an endgame update that targets mostly existing and returning players, and they have different expectations on how this would manifest in their data. LOR brought the expected fresh blood, and DR brought the expected changes to play behaviour and time.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
To add I was here for LOR and before LOR and my memory is fine
I dont need False metrics given to me my someone who is proven not to be honest and caught many times in outright lies
Example .. The Elite STFs will be renamed Advanced but they wont be changed......Well they were horribly changed and nerfed.....Outright lie...Nuff said
The player base is being divided compartmentalized and gated / level restrictions so we cannot play together as a group/Fleet by goals and rewards and the ways to earn them
The best meteric is playing the game and seeing how its progressing..not reading a spread sheet
If its fun players will stay spend and encourage friends to join
A clerk can read a spreadsheet and make a condensed report to a manager.....Did Rommel or Patton read spreadsheets behind the lines...... No they were at the front winning battles and becoming legends
History is a great teacher if one reads and understands it
The podcast is garbage whitewash for fools and the ignorant
Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
Not really. Dan always came across as a greasy used car salesman to me. He always seemed to say what people wanted to hear at the time, then used weasel words to get out of being nailed down to any kind of 'promise' later on.
Aren't Dan single handedly responsible for having the low level content for KDF, when LoR was released ? When everyone was focused on Romulan, he went in and did the KDF content, because it would have been unfair to have the new faction having a complete leveling experience, while the old one would still be the half faction.
Sure he was joined later, but most of the story and the will to do it is his.
Maybe it was another dev, I'm not 100% sure, but if it was Dan, then this comment makes a lot of sense.

The push to give low-level content to the KDF is attributed to him, yes.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Really? Put an uncommon beam array into the upgrade screen and look at the amount of XP it requires to reach the next mark. Then put a rare beam array of the same mark into the upgrade screen and look at the amount of XP it requires to reach the next mark.
Example: a mk xi uncommon beam array needs 36,000 XP to reach mk xii, a mk xi rare beam array requires 42,000 XP to reach mk xii.

Daniel Stahl added another post to the ever-lengthening forum thread and outright apologized for the "heavy handed" nature of the move. He also outlined the reasons behind the reward's removal.

2) There was a bug in the display, but it is now fixed. He is not saying that the current numbers you see are wrong.
3) He says that people play more and longer. That doesn't mean they will end up in the queues, however. Of course we don't know when he last looked into the data.
I think they're all starting to blur together for people.
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
He was talking about the dilitium nerv on STF's from months ago and the new dilitium to defera (ect) in 1 go. Why we complaint about it !!
Errrr... Geko hasn't offered up HIS metrics
