I can see where your coming from there. Though, it would be nice if they were to open another thread about the patch, and sticky it so that players have a place to post questions, information, etc. This will let them still have the post that just states the patch notes, and one that is a discussion thread.
And this other post, they can sticky it in the general discussion section, and have it linked from the patch notes thread.
Just a suggestion.
So have a thread in GD opened say during just downtime (or the day before type of thing) stickied?

This. And it can be left open a day or two after, if the developers, or community managers want to try to do some Q n A on any changes that were made.
Since they have been opening up communications more recently, this will give them a good place to try to answer questions, and concerns about new patches.

Sounds like a good compromise, although it adds another layer. Personally I think that the maintenance thread worked fine as it was, not just for feedback, but also a place where the CMs/devs could update us if any delays where likely. Having 3 threads for a maintenance just seems clumsy, closed patch-notes and open maintenance thread has been a winner so far.
[niggle] It does seem that perfectly good systems are being changed with little thought or purpose, while some of the systems that could use a little TLC are being ignored. [/niggle]
Oh "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" is a credo that I live by as an engineer, so I always baulk when I see this sort of thing.
"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." — Lazarus Long --->Get the Forums Enhancement Extension!

I also liked the way it worked before. However, sometimes when change does happen, we need to adapt to it. And if it is tried, and they find it is more trouble, then they may go back to how things use to be.
But it never hurts to try new ways of doing things.

We wanted to alert you to upcoming changes to the forums, sub-forums, sticky threads and many of the older archived posts and bulletin announcements.
In an effort to update and reorganize these features, we will be systematically sweeping through the forums to complete this task.
I wanted to alert you to the incoming updates so they don't begin to alarm anyone as they progress
Thanks for you patience everyone!

So, what your really mean is that your probably removing any derogatory comments about how horrible the game mechanics have become as of late. And hide any comments referring to the fact that the game is now Pay2win?
