In an effort to update and reorganize these features, we will be systematically sweeping through the forums to complete this task.
    ~CaptainSmirk

Yeah, like you don't do that already by ignoring the numerous problems people post in the forums and never get attention until a year later, or involves the Devs losing money in a F2P game!

Thanks but, any word on what the changes will be, or is this pre-warning only that an outline will be on the way?

    could be;
shutting down all old threads that havent been active with 30 days of their original purpose to avoid necro threads so mods deal with the here an now.
reorganizing the forum structure so its easier to handle and manage.
probably stability upgrades and other features.
better user ability for the standard fan fan include the rest of us keyboard warriors here and new players.
rearranged graphics user interface, (the grey and black never worked the first time out and still doesnt).

will see what becomes of the forum. just hope there isnt a a zen charge to remove the 300 second barrier when they update the darn thing :P.

Sorry, what do you mean by the Facebook bit?

I am not even on Facebook so I wouldn't even know where to begin with that...

IMHO some people in here use the forums like IM aka the facebook ref. Maybe I should have used Instant Messaging instead as the reference...

Only a few but it does take away from the thread when they do.

    Thoughts on this thread:
    • Wow, Smirk, that was rather impressive even for PWE. Could you possibly be any less specific?
    • An entire thread about a complete lack of information. Wow. I'm reminded unpleasantly of the two-year-long near-blackout on the EGOSOFT forums after X Rebirth turned up late. The results weren't pretty.
    • Clearly PWE majored in business with a minor in uncommunication.

To venture a guess, one of the things could be more moderation support from within the community. Yes, No?

The first step is what was mentioned in the OP of this thread, once that is complete, I will move on the next stage will consist mainly of adding new redirects to posts and social media to make sure users are going to the right areas to report bugs and discuss content or new additions/events etc.

One that is complete, the next step will be sub-forum mergers, removals and creation of new areas to post, aimed at portions of our community that may not have a home here in the forums.

After that, we will begin coordinating threads in a more streamlined fashion similar to the recent changes that have been implemented in GNN and our Bug sections. Like devoted threads to a new event so players can go there specifically to relay info to us about nerfs, borked stuff and bugs.

For now that is all I can say, but we do have other features and ideas that are still being fleshed out.

Believe you me, I wish we had an update to VBlulletin in that list, but for now, the stars have not aligned so.

To all of you who posted questions about any vital info being deleted before you can save it or back it up, never fear, any areas that will be closed down or marked for deletion will be given heads up warning so anything valuable to forum folks can be saved. This is in specific regards to stories or artistic examples of things players hold dear.

This is not a Forums are Doomed post, nor is it meant to indicate that the game is shutting down. If that's what you take away from it, have fun with that :)

Thanks for everyone's patience and good sense of humor about this.

I hope this includes a "report post" feature being added, the current method is massively cumbersome. Without better tool to help keep trolls and flame wars at bay most of this will just be window dressing.

Good to know there will be advance notice on deletions.

To authors reading I still recommend being underway on the backup process now, just in case.

You'll have to excuse my paranoia, Smirk, but the last time I got the urgent "spider sense" about backing up files, my laptop decided to follow it up 2 days later with a catastrophic hard drive failure--I had done pretty much all of the backing-up when I first got that bad feeling about it, but literally loaded the very last file onto my EHD about 2 seconds (no exaggeration) before the laptop went into an unrecoverable crash.

Believe me, knowing what I narrowly escaped was a hard lesson on the value of backing up files.

I have to say, while Askray and Bluegeek have never been anything but the best, most professional volunteer moderators I've ever seen (my god, the horror stories I could tell about other forums and their awful, abusive CMs...even Askray on a REALLY cranky day is orders of magnitude better), some of these new guys...

Well, let's just say that quite a few people are "displeased" about the closure of the ban thread.

Smirk and Trendy both deserve raises and 3 or 4 more people to help them, though--the sheer workload plus the abuse they get is just absurd.

No. It's not that we don't want to be replaced, or we're power hungry (this isn't the biggest board I'm a mod on) it's that really people that want us gone are those that think we're being too hard on the community or they have numerous warnings against them so are obviously mad at us. You may not like us (a lot of people don't) but that's because we have to enforce rules, FCT's, guidelines etc that are not always popular, but need to be done.

We're also responsible for trying to keep SOME sense to the forum. It's not exactly a simple procedure.

If people want to join as moderators, by all means send smirk a pm telling him you're interested. The help is always welcomed but it's not a quick process either. So if you do ask to be a mod, don't expect there to be a 4-5 day turn around. It might take 2-3 months for various reasons (and no it's not because smirk is slow).

Anyone who wants to make backups now of any stories or lists or posts that they are concerned might get deleted, I would not say that backing up important data is a bad idea. If it is important to you, grab it and copy it and love it and squeeze it until it can't run away from you ever again. Otherwise known as the Elmira Method. This will make sure you don't loose anything just in case.

That being said, I have no intention of deleting Ten Forward. Or renaming it. Although now I feel like we need a Club 47 or Quarks Bar sub-forum too, but that is crazy talk.

Helpful threads list the lists of known issues, bugs, missing foundry assets, costume stuff, etc etc are great resources and will be sticking around in one way or another. Maybe even getting special treatment in fact as they are a direct line from what players want and what we can send on to other teammates.

New Mods are also on the list, so poor Askray and Bluegeek can get some reinforcements :)

MidNiteShadow is the first of more to come!

Report button is still a no go, which makes me want to eject myself out an airlock.

Good luck getting all those posts saved everyone!

Excellent idea. I suggest a special subforum for popular advice threads--they still exist in the other forums, but they get copied over or something to an advice forum...not entirely sure if this is possible, though.

I hope that they don't lock the Hail Ba'al thread or the Doom thread and justify it with the spam excuse. I swear, three of my fleeties were mourning the ban thread today--they didn't participate in it, just liked to show up and laugh at the creative bans.

I'm reassured that Ten Forward's not going away, but I still would very much like some more concrete information about what is happening.
