2) THEY STILL ARE THE Tippy top of the Killing folks tree.
As it should be quite frankly. My question is, why is the gap getting so narrow between them? One or two more bonuses to exotic/particle gen sci damage and goodbye needing escorts in a five man ever again.
Cruisers, and engineering captains especially, have already been reduced to liabilities, (in 98% of cases, there are some good cruiser pilots still out there NOT leaning on A2B, but oh right, flown by tac captains). If this creeps any further along, which we all know it will, escorts are next on the chopping block. The only saving grace for some will be the fact that their tactical captains will still be desired, so long as they are in science ships and packing PM.
The main point you're overlooking is the damage is not equal. It's direct to hull, yes. It's also 100% counterable. Escorts still do 2-3x the total damage of a PM TBR ship across a lengthy match. Period.
For specifics, I run 4 sci and 1 eng console. The other 5 consoles universals. One of them is Acetons. 4 of them are clickies to make up for the fact that the ship is squish as **** and relies on speed/bonus defense to not suck. Sound like any other build you know? Oh yeah an escort. Which is either running more damage in the 2 specific wells slots (tif+backstep) or more resist consoles. The one thing that escort has that I don't? Spike. TBR has no spike, its pressure, 100% counterable, etc etc.
I hate going back to this but if anything but weapons aren't allowed to do damage, tac's shouldn't be able to heal. At all. It's the same line of logic. Although all this is probably going to be hysterically underpowered vs whatever overpowered lockbox of magic t6 stuff will come out after season 10, so, again, builds need to be looked at, adjusted, etc. Everything in this game is TRIBBLE for tat in private 5v5 pvp, and I hate to say it, knowing your opponents build BEFORE the match is one of the biggest advantages you can have. Knowledge is as OP as teamwork in group pvp.
Have you ever asked a PM running ship to do nothing but shoot at you with there 6 weapons slots ? lmao
That wasn't the point though. Point being, they get the PM/exotic damage before anything else, then you add in TIF set, whatever flavor proc you want (usually phased polaron?), crafted plasma torp, again another list that goes on. You guys run the stuff, you know just what tricks you put in there.
That is the real joke. If you think un buffed wepaons coming out of a sci ship likely running >50 power in there weapons is doing anything... well I know you don't believe it is.
I don't think anyone calls TIF set a joke considering it's banned/limited in most tournaments. Kind of already responded to this above and I don't want to explain again. Already in danger of turning into VD on these forums...

By the proper team setup, yeah I get that. What happens when you can't get on a proper team all the time? Don't queue up? Swap to your own PM ship? I fully agree this is an mmo, and teamwork is the best offense and defense, but when you queue up solo it's a 100% TRIBBLE shoot. Chances are half the team won't even have team chat open, let alone do something crazy like respond to it.
Sure thats pugging for you.
There are multiple ways for people to kill you... if you don't have the right protections vs X or Y then X or Y can kill you. Whats your point.
If I decide to go pugging in my sci ship solo... and I end up on a team of cruisers and we are facing a team of zippy escorts... there is a good chance I am going to eat a ton of pain and a loss.. Does that mean that DMG scort is OP ?
Your point simply doesn't hold up.
Multiple anythings will trump a team that doesn't consist of the proper ships to counter them. Multiple team ships also go down HARD if the other tema has the counter multiple times.
Take a full escort team in vs a full sci team and the escorts are in trouble.
Take a full team of sci boats in vs a hull heavy team and the sci ships are in trouble... cause PM dmg isn't enough to take down real hull tanky targets with out help from .... tada ESCORTS.
Unbalanced teams happen all the time in the pug ques... that is the fault of Cryptic for not having a match making system. Not individual builds for countering other things. PM counters what a lot of people have been running for a long time. I know its painful to think perhaps Relying on EPTS and a fleet shield isn't enough anymore to protect yourself vs EVERYTHING. That's ok.
The game now is at a point where 3 types of defense are required by ships... you can't simply min max one and expect to be fine. To many people have used gear to get to shield cap and strap one armor on and have been fine 99% of the time. Now you have to defense your hull your shield and keeping defense up works to augment both. I find it much more balanced game design.
As it should be quite frankly. My question is, why is the gap getting so narrow between them? One or two more bonuses to exotic/particle gen sci damage and goodbye needing escorts in a five man ever again.
I don't think its even close to that to be honest.
TBR is very much like faw its spread all over when there are multiple targets around... accept its easier to get away from or simply negate.
We have been blamed for pushing PM builds yes... Kerrat players aren't really popularizing team builds. Still we don't run 5 man PM teams... and I know that would never work.
We still require 2 ESCORTS to score kills. The sci ship dmg is simply providing the presure that is needed to keep the other team on there toes. The trade off is our PM running sci ships are a lot more squishy then they used to be... they also have a lot less CC on them. So its a fine balance of building the team to take advantage of the hull presure while not giving up so much we become easy prey.
The hard time some people have had countering it is only because its new imo. Recently a few teams have come up wtih some very good counter stradegies. To me that is a lot of fun... seeing what teams are coming up with to counter things... and how we have to adapt to that. After months of nothing really changing in the meta I'm super pumped... and the intel ships look like they are going to shake things up a bit more. (I don't think we will see 5 man T6 teams... but 1-2 T6 on a team may have some very fun synergies)

as the OG particle master, you FBP and TBR kiddies need to get your fancy crafting consoles and traits off my lawn!

extremely unlikely
they'd want at least a month to gouge anyone who didn't buy the delta pack on those T6 ships for the traits before they release superior lockbox versions

There's been a cycle of FBP, TBR, EWP being boosted & nerfed. Now the boosts require grinding and/or $ is the only difference. The issue w/EWP has been the logic of how it's applied when someone has HE is activated. Instead of checking if HE is active before applying the proc, it has HE do a check if there's something to clear every delta of time. Things can get out of sync and the plasma not cleared this way.
Back on topic, unless things have changed TBR has a hard # of max targets it can effect, so create spam to help negate the damage as a soft counter. I know this from back when runabouts 1st were being introduced and usable by all Fed ship types (ie Cruisers, Escorts, & Sci Ships). It proved to be a bad soft counter to the TB spam. Not that I encourage spam, but it probably still is a counter.
Also, iirc there's a Fed Sci console that reflect Kinetic damage, but maybe it was just torp damage.

what did the most harm to EWP is that anyone with EPtE can fly right through it, it does nothing about the +40 speed EPtE gives you, NOTHING does. you could have no impulse engine equiped, and you still move at at least 40 speed with it. you cant harm anyone with EWP now without 2 or 3 other holds, its damage has been cut by at least a 3rd now that tac consoles cant buff it, its been thoroughly ruined

I think that's along the lines of the d-sync that comes from such a large difference between relative speeds. Can run into this situation a lot when attempting to apply Sci debuffs w/travel time and arc vs fast ships. While the client thinks they're in range by the time it processes the activation the target is out of range, so a power goes on cooldown w/no effect. Imo, they're pushed things beyond tolerances and won't fallback.

I do have a question regarding Particle Generators.
How do you manage to get Particle Generators up to 400?
My currently PG stats is 289 when i have 4 Embasy Particle Generators, plus Solanae Deflector(which gives +35 in PG),universal consoles that boost it.
I really don't know how you guys manage to pull that much.:(
ultra rare particle exciter and conductive RCS accelerator from crafting, both with +partigens will add another 60 or so, plus the inspirational leadership trait will add another 30 if you can get all 3 stacks and keep them
there's also the T5 rom rep clicky that gives +100 to all sci skill levels, but that only lasts 8 seconds

People just need to read and learn what abilities do and how to counter them DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE!!!
I have a ship with one fbp on it no rep/traits to buff it not even specked. Fully buffed it reflects at a rate of .44 and people cry about it. I say it is reflecting their tears back to them!
I fought scoras fbp ship and beat it 2 copies and a perfect shield to boot read buffs people count timers. Hell trick them make them use skills or call for a nuke in a team fight.
Or you can sit in a corner and cry licking your ships windows dreaming of a time when you only had to press a space bar and try to out dps your opponents heals before they out do yours!
I am interested in how the other players in this forum treat the use of particle gen based skills and damage from a pvp perspective.
1. Do you think tactical should be able to boost "all dmg" with APs?
2. Do you think FBP should return more dmg than was originally dealt?
3. Do you think TBR should be direct hull dmg?
4. Do you think PartGen dmg should equal weapon dmg; if so, under what circumstances?
Opinions please. I have my bias but I would like to see what others say.
If there are any other questions you wish to pose please do so.
1. nope, doesn't make sense and gives tacs an advantage they not should have imo.
2. nope.
3. i'm fine with tbr dmg on hull, but not in the way it is possible right now. a bit over the top imo.
4. nope.
.... but probably i just refuse to adapt lol

1. nope, doesn't make sense and gives tacs an advantage they not should have imo.
2. nope.
3. i'm fine with tbr dmg on hull, but not in the way it is possible right now. a bit over the top imo.
