They're canonically a lot smarter than first impressions would indicate. They just don't talk particularly well (underdeveloped language center or some such).

That's what I go with. They're an intelligent, sentient race just like anyone else. I mean they have to be able to pass the Starfleet academy exams and whatnot -- they can't be mentally undeveloped.

But pakleds suffer from a language barrier. They can formulate ideas, and intentions on what to say, but what they say ends up being a kind of word salad. Brief glimpses of ideas to convey, but not intricate in terms of syntax and grammar.

It's really not unlike a race of aliens who suffer from Receptive Aphasia at the societal and possibly biological level.

It's likely they use their underdeveloped language to their advantage, in order to lure people into believing they're ignorant.

The Trill. I would like to learn more about:
How the joining of hosts and symbiotes started
What issues they ran into that lead to some pretty strict rules about joining, associating with people from past lives, so on
The impacts on peoples lives when they or a relative/associate is joined

I'd be interested in something along the lines of having an unjoined NPC involved in a few story missions, to a level substantial enough to learn a bit about them, and then have them be selected by the commission for joining. Then see how they were changed by it. We don't really know a great deal, if anything, about Jadzia and Ezri pre-joining.

The Bynar, they're the closes thing the federation has to the Borg and yet we never see them enter the fight.

The Andorians? Yeah. I don't know about the Dwarfs.

Considering they're the Big Bad of the game, I think that's a given.
They're sure taking their sweet time about it! :P

I am curious how long we're going to have to wait till we finally confront them though, and to that end, what comes next.

What issues they ran into that lead to some pretty strict rules about joining, associating with people from past lives, so on

Those are actually explained in DS9. In order:
    • According to a Trill Symbiosis Commission representative* met in the episode where a forgotten host of Dax resurfaces (I forget the title), the restrictions are to protect the symbionts from becoming luxury trade goods. Half the host species is physiologically capable of joining, but there's nowhere near enough symbionts to go around.
    • The taboo against reassociation is apparently because joined Trill are "supposed" to seek out new life experiences, not rehash old ones.

    * Mind, we don't have third-party verification but we don't have any particular reason to doubt her, either.

I'd like to see more done with the founding members of the federation, like has already been said.

I also think it would be cool to have a commerce and trade based Ferengi playable faction. You could get 'opportunities' and 'propositions' from the Grand Negus. Frequent visits from Brunt etc. Could even start a GPL based exchange.

As much as I love the new ESD. I do think it would be cool to be able to go to Paris to see the Federation President etc.

I don't think we should flesh out the Tholians. They're supposed to be xenophobic and elusive, so it would fit better if they popped up from time to time through a rift or something. Having said that, I'd love the Sheliak to appear at least once, and some sort of diplomacy thing with the Tamarians where you have to work out what they're talking about.

I think at some point (although not necessarily right now), the Romulans should decide to go it alone. At this point Romulan players would have to decide whether to stay as FED/KDF, or switch to the new Romulan Empire (could involve a return by Empress Sela).

Along those lines, it would be fun to defect from the Federation and join the Maquis and do more to learn about them. For all we know Ro Laren could be one of the leaders by now.

I think the KDF species could do with fleshing out some more. The Naussican's would be interesting. Both them and the Orions have been able to mix with Starfleet personnel at various points before teaming up with the Klingons.

Lets face it, there's a whole galaxy of stuff/species/storylines spanning almost 50 years of TV and movies. There's always gonna be something to look at. I think Delta Rising makes sense, because it gives a solid Voyager based story arc. We've already had hints of Xindi, which means Enterprise could come next, and therefore that could also include Andorians, Vulcans, Tellarites etc, which would then mean all the tv series are covered, even if it's just broadly.

Other things/people I'd like to see make appearances... The Whale Probe, The tkon empire, Hugh, B4, the traveller. Also, what species is Mr Homn?

Oh, and if all else fails... Iconians :D

I assume by "Alpha Quadrant" you actually mean Alpha and Beta Quadrants. . . ?

I've wanted to do something with the four Federation founding races for a while. Clean up Vulcan and Andoria, add Tellar Prime, maybe tack something onto SFA, and have a mission that leads you between worlds to learn about the founding of the Federation.

Still want to do Ferenginar as well.

Edit: I'll second Anazonda's suggestion on the Pakleds. I love those guys. Probably won't happen though, cuz Geko hates them.

I too will vouch for Pakleds, as someone who actually -plays- one (And I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the only one :P )

Additionally, as someone who's taken time to delve deeper into Beta canon, I can say that there are a lot of ignorant misconceptions about the race. For example, as stated before, they're often thought of as being unintelligent because of they have an underdeveloped speech center. The Pakleds have demonstrated before that they can be quite cunning (Apparently enough so to trick people like the Romulans, if Samaritan Snare is any indication), and they'll use their innocuous appearance to trick others.

There's some other interesting tidbits out there about them. Their blood being purplish in coloration for instance.

I personally wouldn't mind learning more about the Pakleds as a whole, specifically what prompted some of them to join Starfleet, and how Starfleet Pakleds might act and behave in comparison to "ordinary" Pakleds.

Pakled (their homeworld) would be interesting to see as well: Geologically active, mountainous planet dotted with a scant number of cities, with most Pakleds living in agricultural settlements and villages.

I know TOS isn't dealt with much here, but I would love a series of missions that I would call Revisited, that take us into the Alpha quadrant and get us in touch with some of the planets touched upon by Kirk's Enterprise.

What happened with the Androids on Mudd's planet?
Did the Roman civilization on planet 892-IV ever mature or are they still a warlike, slave holding culture?
How about visiting the Shore Leave Planet once more?
Was Rejac really destroyed, or did it survive to kill again?
Were Lokai and Bele the last survivors from Cheron? If there were others, did they overcome their hatred eventually?
Did Emininiar VII and Vendicar ever make peace?

    Let's find out.

Vulcan is already very very pretty in my view - I would imagine it would take the least amount of work to spruce up - there is already a nice diplomacy mission there with lots of lore and flavor. All it needs is some tinkering and a bit of content to give us more reason to go there.

In this regard a nice touch might be to have a pon farr related mission - maybe involving one of our boffs, or a special Vulcan NPC. You already have the classic TOS fight music in Colisseum - it could easily be reused here for a melee battle with Lirpas!

Andoria would likely need a lot more work - the map itself is currently just 'there' with nothing really to do. It would also need a lot of tidying to bring it up to the current high graphical standards.

Tellar Prime - we haven't seen this in the show, so there would be a lot of freedom there. I'm visualising it as a world with a lot of industry, as well as debating forums.

But these are all heavily Fed-oriented. I echo those who have been calling for the Gorn to be fleshed out and Gornar to be added as a social hub/mission area (it doesn't have to be KDF only). The STO writers have added a lot of open ended plot points regarding the Gorn which could easily be picked up on - there is a lot of potential there.

There's a lot of Alpha and Beta Quadrant species I'd like to see developed more. I'd love to see some Andorian stuff and Andorian cultural weapons included with the things we have now. I'd also love to see the Xindi play more of a role in things and hopefully eventually become playable. There's so much to work with considering the number of races in the Xindi.

Lol, but no. the only thing we know about them from canon is that the Sheliak thought they were so boring they were willing to let Picard have his way rather than talk with them.

    close... but no.

They were hibernating and would not wake until the Federation would be completing the evacuations anyways.

Picard was able to force it to arbitration and said "Well, we're getting the time we need, so how do you want to do it?"

That too. It reminds me of that race that Tam Elbrun mentioned.... a sentient species that thinks so slowly that it literally takes them all day to have a conversation.

Pakleds are the best con artists in space.

They managed to steal the shields off of a warship. From a Romulan warship. And got away with it.

Then, they go ahead and kidnap Geordi, get him to upgrade ship and weapons (for free), and get away scot free, without Picard even being angry.

Considering how their ships are patched together tech from five or six major different sources, they've also got the same minmaxing streak as this game's players do.
