Zen has reached an appalling new level today, 161 dil to the zen.

The positive response to new dil sink proposals has been limited so far, so we might need to explore other options.

Obviously, there are two ways to reduce the supply of dil available.

One is to sink it out, the other is to limit the creation of new dil.

When evaluating global solutions, we need to keep a close eye on ethics. Any solution must be ethically permissible or else we can't implement it.

I have conceived a new beneficial proposal for bringing down the cost of zen.

Currently, each character can refine 8000 dilithium ore into 8000 refined dilithium a day.

I propose that this number be reduced by 2000, to 6000 dilithium per day.

This would reduce the burden on hard working players by giving them respite once they'd hit 6000, without losing sleep over the nagging suspicion that others were getting more.

This could easily reduce the dil/zen rate by 25%. At current prices, that would represent a decrease to 120 dil / zen.

You ever think that maybe its been on a steady rise because of DR? People are going to be saving zen for T6 ships so the people who have the zen are raising prices for a little thing call profit?

Hell I've even been thinking about selling off my 200k+ dilithium I saved up from the last dilithium even for zen now and sell it when the market is higher for a nice dilithium gain.

Besides odds are I imagine we will get another fleet holding with the DR that is in the Delta Quadrant and there is your dilithium sink...

Not really Zen increasing in demand - the demand hasn't changed, but Dil supply has been increasing in leaps and bounds since the Mirror Event.

It might be increasing now Delta Rising has been announced, but that doesn't cover the almost 40 Dil per Zen rise since I started playing.

Equipment already costs dilithium to buy...What are you talking about?

well, for the rep equipment for example it costs a good bit of dil. However, most people already have it. what I'm saying is for the new equipment like this - have it cost dil in the same way, though slightly increased amount. Tier 6 assimilated borg set etc... Also upgrade your tier 5 to 6 with dil.

If the ship upgrades, for example, are zen the dil price will crash to 400 within the week. if they are dil, however we may see fair prices on the exchange.

in the modern economy of the game dilithium had established a value. now with most fleets done and most rep gear purchased the game needs to prop it up. I knew we were in trouble during the R&D weekend when it only went to 155. As I say, without people actually buying zen to convert to dilithium there is nothing to stop the market from crashing now. We need an actual new need for dilithium.

I'm probably going to be modded for this:

Druk is a resident troll. He spends hours on end at ESD starting arguments about politics for as long as I have been playing this game (Sept. 2012). As a new player I almost quit the game completely because of his TRIBBLE. And one time he was trying to coerce players at ESD into capturing and executing a real life person (Edward Snowden). That's all he does. And it seems he has now branched out onto the forums. His threads are nothing but troll posts to TRIBBLE people off.

March 5, 2013: Druk in ESD starting arguments about politics. Support ticket #130305-000929

Feb. 28, 2014 at around 10:25 pm pacific time zone: Druk at ESD starting a political argument by telling people that "Edward Snowden needs to be executed". Support ticket #140228-001850

March 1, 2014 10:50 pm pacific: Druk at ESD starting a political argument by telling people they need to go out and capture him and execute him. Support ticket #140301-002466

And I'm not just saying this because of the OP's 'Druk' signature pic. In at least 1 of these old support tickets I had told support his @username, which matches the OP's forum name to the left of his post and coincides with his signature pic.

If you are modded, then it will do nothing but show Cryptic's failure to police the game and forums of known repeat offenders and will be scene as an attempt to cover up their own incompetence.

i figured as much after the first two threads and how its worded, but im not gonna get into it, as much as i agree with that underlined. flamewar, personal attacks and naming and shaming... that sort of stuff im not gonna get into.

    Would be a big surprise...

i will try to look appropriately surprised.

Even if demand for zen vs dil remained constant. Lowering dil supply would increase its value relative to zen.

vBulletin already has a Ignore function, they just chose not to enable it.

The reason may be that they don't have the skill required to merge the forum handles with the STO handles... Something Cryptics team had nailed quite nicely with Drupal, but the PWE team perhaps dosen't know how to do with Wordpress.

There is no need to merge the handles together as far as a forum ignore function goes. Just have two separate lists, one for STO chat and one for STO forums chat.

    We are in complete agreement.

However, I think that they (being PWE and Cryptic) think/feel that there needs to be a connection between the two... I might feel the same way if I were a developer...

Irony is, that it's probably quite simple, if it's anything like connecting a webpage with public-service software.

@repetitiveepic: Not to impolite, but this is not directly related to your OP, so your cookies is your source of attention atm.

The problem with this line of thinking is that there are two sides to that coin.

When demand for dil is high, people charge zen *for the purpose of getting dil.*

At the same time, because dil demand is high, they get *less dil per zen and have to spend more money.*

It has never been made clear whether they sell more zen when people have to buy a lot of it to get a lot of dil, or when get a lot of dil for buying less.

Or you are just a greedy little Ferengi.

Wasn't asking you nutty... You refuse to acknowledge the cookies, so you are not important at this point.

A little something I learned called discipline and self-control. I just don't refine the maximum amount of dil possible. I refine 4k and just wait until the next day.

Or refining every other day, like Druk mentioned above.

Doesn't that effectively cut you off from some of the more interesting content? or do you stick with story/idleing around ESD/whereever

And that would accomplish what exactly?! That you wind up with less Refined Dilithium? And, pray-tell, how does you having less RD affect the Zen-Dil conversion rate at all?!
