Klingon ship looks awesome. Romulan ship looks decent, but I'd prefer a little more elegance in their designs. The Fed ship is putrid, at least for a Fed ship. I'm sure it would work as a Tholian or Iconian design.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
Romulan Ship looks decent. Not a huge fan, but don't dislike it either.
KDF ship looks very good!
Starfleet vessel. Bleh. Yet another 4-nacelle monstrosity, in a Starfleet FULL of 4-nacelle monstrosities.
It's really not even funny anymore. What used to be a rarity (4-nacelle ship designs) has become so common that any appreciation I might have had for those designs, died long ago.
Why is it that EVERY escort in this game either a) looks like a fighter jet -or- b) has 4-nacelles? Can the Devs truly not come up with an escort-cruiser type look? Something that takes it's design inspiration from the Sovereign, but is about the size of an Intrepid? In essence something that conveys this:
The FED ships look like been heavy influenced by Tholian ddesign IMO.
The Cruiser looks like having 4 nacelles, it's basicly a angular Heavy Cruiser Retrofit.
I cannot stress enough, that i do not like that angular design or the protracted configuration.
The Escort definitely looks like a Defiant/Risian Corvette variation.
Both are definitely not my cup of tea.
Cryptics ship designs distances themselves too much from Starfleet designs IMO.
I have no idea why Cryptics designers always seem to struggle when designing Starfleet ships, it's really not that hard IMO.
I hope that other Starfleet ships will look much more like... well starfleet.
Why not reimagine older designs like the NX, Constitution Galaxy or some other classic Starfleet ship.

This escort looks like a Tier 6 Defiant-like escort.
Yeah, it appears to be so.
But I'm not liking it. It's too alien for a Starfleet design. And I'm not digging the TRON looks that they provided so far. Hopefully that's just a Vet skin or an Aegis set.
The escort looks even worse than the cruiser. If you showed these two designs to anybody outside of STO I seriously doubt they would be able to identify them as Starfleet ships or even Star Trek ships in general. I really hope this is just a first draft that will be improved significantly before launch.

Exactly, it really doesn't scream Starfleet, nor Star Trek to me. And I have to ask WTF is CBS thinking?
But knowing Cryptic, like it or not, they are going to force these monstrosities on us and make us pay 3000 zen for them. Well, I for one am continuing my boycott in buying Zen, because I'm not going to buy anymore ships.
I like the Warbird and Klingon vessel. They look really nice.
The Federation vessels, on the other hand.....
The escort looks okay at a glance, even if I'm not crazy about it. The cruiser doesn't appeal to me at all, based on the current concept art. Hopefully, they'll be fleshed out some more to be more appealing.
And what about the Jupiter and Typhoon? While they may not appeal to some, at least they look like something out of the Fleet's shipyards. As opposed to something that looks like it was built in a Dominion or Tholian Assembly shipyard.
Its nice to see the different delta quadrant races and their ships, and i like the look of the romulan ship. slightly unsure about the klingon one but its hard to tell with one pic.
the fed ones look really odd especially for a cruiser. its hard to be sure from a couple of iffy pictures but im unsold on them. ill wait for better pics an full information.
edit improved voyager and interior look fantastic though.
My thoughts exactly. There hasn't been a good looking Fed ship in a long time, IMO. The Avenger looks like an Intrepid that crashed into a wall and got all compacted, and the Dyson ship is just... urgh. And now this thing.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!
While the Dyson was ugly, it did have a good backstory, something of rarity in STO except for the Enterprise, Bortasqu, the Lleiset, and the USS Renown.
Kazon? seriously? god, devs will never learn... what the hell are the kazon even considered?? knowing they are maybe the most stupid useless race ever created in a star trek show?
That makes them perfect for STO, since stupidity and uselessness is what we expect out of STO's enemy AI: They're aggressive, stupid, and to be killed in great numbers like some manner of space-orc. They're perfect for STO.
But I'm not liking it. It's too alien for a Starfleet design. And I'm not digging the TRON looks that they provided so far. Hopefully that's just a Vet skin or an Aegis set.
To me, it looks like someone stuck a saucer onto a Defiant, and added the Aegis visual trim. Both of which are NOT good things.
Kazon? seriously? god, devs will never learn... what the hell are the kazon even considered?? knowing they are maybe the most stupid useless race ever created in a star trek show? hell, i even will consider more the ocampa and talaxians, even if they are not really an important part of the ip. I only hope they dont discard other races because they are going to include the kazon.. The hierarchy and the malon will be awesome, and thats a logical conclusion, and of course the Krenim is a must, and im sure they will be present as well. But for god sake.. cryptic, dont make the mistake including the kazon..
And as i feared, ships below T6 grade will be obsolete. That is a feeling i have in mind after reading that blog... (well, its something i ve already knew anyways).
Kazon were a dumb race, but their ship design (or rather the people's ship design they stole it from) is unique and stands out. You can call it ugly, but STO has a few ships that I personally find ugly but still people fly them, so maybe that's just a subjective matter and can't really be relevant for determining whether a ship is relevant or not.
But if people ask for getting more Voyager or Delta quadrant related content, would you automatically assume that they meant "everything but the Kazon, of course"?
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

Well umm... you can't actually fault that logic.
Ships: Rom and KDF ok, Fed concepts don't look Starfleet-ish.
ETA - but, they do look like a Tholian Starfleet hybrid; a more than reasonable idea for maybe a co-op ship or a Nukara Rep ship.
Hmm, Romulan looks like it merges design elements of the Ar'kif and the Daeinos.
Klingon looks like a merge of the Mogh with the KDF Dyson.
Federation . . . . Saucer comes from the Thunderchild or similar. But where did they get the nacelles? What happened to the saucer with a swept back and uplifted fin and nacelles look?

It seems the new fed designs are going the way of the dyson ships idea of merging alien technology with starfleet tech. If that's the case for all future ships then I'm no longer interested in buying anymore of them. What's the point when they don't look Star Trek at all. If I play the game anymore then I would only fly the old ships even if they are weaker.
OMG they know that stafleet ships are most selling ships in the game and they made that TRIBBLE looking cruiser and escort? LOL KDF and Romulans ships kick fed's TRIBBLE for the first time And i am glad because fed's are so ugly, even dyson is "miss starfleet" compared to that ugly something.

This is the thing - they don't get the rules of Starfleet ships so we end up with ships that look like they've wandered out of another franchise entirely. You are bang on as well - if I didn't know I was looking at STO artwork, I'd have never made the connection it was a Star Trek ship.
Hmm. Just looked at those tweets Drogyn shared more closely and he says there were hints to plot reasons why the Federation ships look like they do. So perhaps another hybrid, or some race from the Delta quadrant becoming new members and sharing technology - with these ships as the results?

It almost looks like it has 4 nacelles, it's silhouette looks almost like an advanced Prometheus.

But, this is Cryptic. They love the 4-nacelles!

THAT is not a good sign.
This was my idea of a hybrid Dyson / Federation

So I know Cryptic should do better!
That is very nice. I would pay for that over any ugly Cryptic ship.
