They sometimes went back on what they announced, but on minor stuff.
You mean like that time when they swore to us that the game wasn't going F2P, with no plans in the future to do so...right before the news of the game going F2P was leaked because they didn't think anyone in the fan base could translate Chinese?

And do you think STO would still be running if it didn't go F2P?

Probably not, but that's not exactly a minor backsies now is it? They were bold faced lying about no F2P when they KNEW it was just months away, and was in fact already being worked on. Its just one item on a long list of stuff. I trust nothing the devs say until its live, and has had at least a few months without changes.

Well your point of view, I respect it. However from my side, I trust what they said, and I want three new ships to play with.
And do you think STO would still be running if it didn't go F2P?
Honestly, yes... and no.
It would definitely not be running if was still owned by "Atari", as their management was just horrible.
I am convinced however that STO would be doing just fine now with a purely subscription based model in the hands of a competent publisher.

It's not just 'his point of view',he can actually back up his claims with evidence that can be found right here on these forums.
And you said 'minor things'? Cryptic also has a history of shafting players without announcing it first...anyone remember the Marks --> Dilithium conversion?
The PWE/Cryptic sweatshop...not where the game is made, but where the game is played!
Take back your home, end the grind!

I'm not buying anything - not even beyond ships - until I know what is going on with all this. I don't mean that in any kind of stroppy way. I just want to know where I stand on my past transactions.
Cryptic should clear this up ASAP, if only to get consumers feeling safe again.
Honestly, I purchased all the ships I was gonna buy before X2 anyway. And even if I didn't, I'm not paranoid enough to think they're gonna be useless in X2.
What? The people were talking about a T6 KDF RAPTOR image. Not a Romulan ship. A KDF ship.
Yeah, we're looking for an official concept art for a KDF Raptor revealed in Las Vegas. As well as another, Romulan one, but not this one linked here - this is a fan art that I'm 100% certain it will never find it's way into STO.
Anyway, if anyone has some pics of the new KDF Raptor concept art from Las Vegas - I'd apreciate it very much if they could share here.

Dito...absolutely no point in buying anything right now, until we know weather it's going to be obsolete or subpar in october.
Lets see, the last thing i bought was the vesta pack, about 6 months ago. Since then, i told myself that i will never buy anything more, with the exception of some services like duty officers extensions and things like that. I just save a little zen day by day, just in case someday cryptic releases something that is WORTHY to buy it. But i dont think that will happen lol. So i keep stacking my zen, and sometimes i buy things i need, and thats all. At least i dont use real money, so that is a relief. I will never have the guts to waste real money on this game lol, i will need to be crazy. But little things like inventory slots are always useful and "cheap".
So, maybe and only maybe if cryptic releases any interesting ship in X2, i will buy it. But i have no hopes at all, unless they change they way of thinking drastically. Why im going to buy a T6 ship when the next month they are going to be nerfed, or they are going to be released with dozens of bugs, or they are going to be just laubable ships with just 1 extra console slot and a fancy skill or something like that?? nah. Zen is better with me.. ^^
The only thing i am waiting for is the Fleet Guramba. If with X2 we still dont have that, i will definitely stop playing this game for good. I had enough patience already lol.
Seen as there is going to be T6 ships soon i wont be buying any new ships till they are out + i wont be paying cash as im sick of all the nerfs over season 9
I'm still kinda interested in wanting to get a Narcine some day but I don't have the EC and either way it would be better off to wait and see how things are treated.
That being said the only ship that could possibly tempt me would be a Romulan Carrier, it would be the only ship that can tempt me to spend my zen. But seeing as that wont happen since Romulans are going the way of the KDF I guess the answer is no.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I will not be buying anything, especially ships. I'm not plunking down the cash to get charged even more cash to upgrade it in a month. And you know full well that upgrading from T5 to T6 isn't going to be free.
Or cost effective... Or even make the ships on-par.
After all, if you can just upgrade, why buy new things?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...

I'm not only not going to purchase ships, it will everything across the board. As someone who purchased their LTS during the open beta I have tried to be supportive of the game, but in the last year I have been very concerned where things are headed. I know it's early, but Expansion 2 is not making me feel any better. It also seems like some of Neverwinter is creeping in and that was a huge waste of time and money. I don't have much faith in Cryptic to roll this out and not TRIBBLE the player base.

The greed of the their PWE overlords + Cryptic's usual ineptness means it is going to be a disaster. No OP super popular faction to save them this time ... aka Romulans.

It's a marketing scheme. Nothing more. Fancy T6 exclusive ship abilities, a crafting system that may or may not still be relevant in October, and a VOY-based expansion. They're looking for a quick buck, not high quality game experiences. The repeatable content they have is only repeatable because it's forced. None of it is worth repeating.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

Absolutely correct. I am off to spread the news on this joyous expansion soon. Hopefully, I can save a few new players from flushing their money down the toilet.

I was thinking about giving in and getting a DSD since it's been awhile since I got a new vessel. With the T6 news though, I just can't see the point. I'll just save my money until October.

Smart. Btw, DSD ships are woefully inadequate as science ships. Can't speak to their performance as destroyers though!

It strikes me that todays announcement has had, among other effects, potentially put a huge dent in ship sales.
I have to admit, it's looking pretty hard to justify buying a tier 5 ship now, when in a month or two it will be outclassed, if not actually obselete.
It has made me anticipate keenly Cryptics better explanation of this hinted at ship upgrade process.
I need that information to decide the best use of my resources, including money.
Has today's announcement put you off buying tier 5 ships?
Or does it make no difference to your decision in this regard?
If/when i purchase a ship it is because i like the design and/or console and as a result i have purchase more T3/4 ships than T5.
From what i understand the T6 will be a new class of ships, or more to the point a sub-class.
Examples were mentioned for the war bird/escort and war bird/science combo.
The new class has promise, but i have my doubts about the raise of the level cap to 60.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I was, literally, minutes away from buying the Tempest, and it's fleet variant, then the T6 announcement dropped.
Cryptic should clear this up ASAP, if only to get consumers feeling safe again.
anyone got a pic of said ship?

Rom ship is made of flat plates, Klingon ship looks like someone power-sanded the corners off of a Mogh, and the Fed...just...ugh.
