    Challenge each other!

For this LC, give a name and a prompt from the community LC idea thread in your post before you write a story. The indicated person then writes a story on that prompt, and gives you a prompt from the thread to work on.

Obviously this requires a little coordination, but I think it'd be really cool.

Interesting, but I'd say no, as too random and open to abuses of characters...

    Examples...

marcusdkane>worffan101: Three wakes up on a Tal Shiar examination table... The have found the correct compound and dosage to keep her under control and are vivisecting her to duplicate her capabilities... Once they are done, they feast on her brains and shout "Huzzah!" and shake each other's hands...

worffan101>marcusdkane: Through a temporal inversion field, Amanda Palmer has returned from the dead. She and Ael must sex-wrestle to determine who gets command of the Vanguard, and as a bonus prize, the winner gets f**ked by Three...

    ;)

So Like communism, awesome concept, but not so good in application ;)

    Um...

Actually, I like the first one. Only, I'd have Three's XO thalaron-bomb the entire Tal Shiar base and then nuke the remains with caustic plasma, and then recover Three's skeleton and punt it into a black hole, just so that nobody can use the metal or the augmentation.

And honestly, that second idea is not something that I would ask you to do. I'd probably just make you send Ael through a negative space wedgie to our universe, where she finds that she's a character in a video game...:D

But agreed, great in concept, not so hot IRL.

Edit to add: Part of the point of this idea is to force people to step outside their comfort zone and write something DIFFERENT. Some people need this more than others. I will say that I tend to write better stories when I beat up Three; my favorite Three scene so far is her VS. Warat in "Invasion". She's still OP/crazy imbalanced, it's just that she's facing an even more OP/unbalanced foe with superior weaponry, physical prowess, and backup.

Which reminds me, with the right orders Three would make a great antagonist. Implacable, vicious, psychotic, and just plain RUDE.

Okay, that's Three's swan-song... Azip and crew then spends the rest of their lives under the lash in a Romulan dilithium mine for use of WMD ;- You know D'trel and co are the winning team to be using ;)

Ael starts wearing bandanas. A lot. And starts selling trinkets and doing palm readings on Venice Beach ;)

Nope. Three flirts with literally everyone, yes. But aside from a bunch of Klingons and her GF? She doesn't actually get that much.

And when the BBC starts showing pictures of the wrecked spaceship and aliens climbing out, and you recognize Raban? And then, presumably, go on CNN or Al Jazeera or the BBC to explain?

    That would be...interesting.

Ahh, now that's changing the parameters of the challenge... ;) Ael, on her own in the modern day, would just go totally off the grid and wait for First Contact so she can leave aboard the T'Plana-Hath... (and probably thank the Elements when she sees Riker and Troi hanging around the launchsite, as that would give her a way home(ish) avoiding the Vulcans) She's only in her late thirties, she's got another 200ish years ahead of her, waiting till First Contact will be nothing (assuming she can sell enough paintings to get by on the basics...) Then again, with her Bear Grylls-esque survival skills, she could just disappear into the wilderness and live off the land... Starfleet Advanced Tactical Training doesn't just cover 101 interesting uses for a phaser beyond shooting someone ;)

Interestingly enough, she flirts so much in part because she's pretty much always bored out of her skull. The jerks who designed the units left them borderline immortal in lifespan terms, almost impossible to kill, and just human enough to be bored.

There are few things less ethical to do to someone. Add to that that the Original was in fact a fairly decent person before she was kidnapped and experimented on, and, well...you can't really feel sorry for those guys when the Original and units designation One and Two ripped them all apart.

No, my original prompt idea "Fourth Wall? What's that?" specifies the Trekverse ship landing in the open, and the crew being seen by news cameras as they leave the wreck. Not technically changing the parameters...

But I agree with the rest, those are...very logical options.

This is the problems with bored immortals... they become boring... Unless they actually do, or have done, something interesting, the only entertaining bit is the lightning show when their head comes off ;)

Ahh, I was going by the above prompt of 'Ael gets space wedgied', and took that to mean her on her own... The ship crashing in plain sight, damn, she'd most likely just trigger the self-destruct, taking out herself, the ship and any journos in the area, and let history record it as an unexplained detonation rather than do anything else... Romulans have a historic tendency just blow ships/themselves up in situations like that... When the Valkyrie crashed in New York, it at least hit the bay, rather than landfall, so that had immediate anonymity as an anomalous object which was never recovered...

She's been hunting with her father and uncle since she was a child, so had a firm grasp of bushcraft way before she went to the Academy, they just taught her some new tricks... And having studied Earth history, she'd know which areas to move to to avoid getting nuked in WWIII, and of course, the date when she can realistically expect an extraction of sorts... She probably could make a living (as in a hot meal and a room for the night) out of selling her paintings etc, but I suspect, she'd just avoid people all together (incase she had a freak accident and wound up in the ER) and head into the wilderness, which she has the skills to accomplish...

Yeah. I think that I'm going to let Three go do her regular insanity off-screen for a while until I can think of something really fun for her.

Makes sense. You should write a story about that...

Pity. She doesn't deserve being flung into a universe where she's fictional and being effectively forced to hide out in the woods.

You can avoid stuff that you don't like. I'd never subject D'trel to finding out that she's fictional. Three, sure. Three's an assh*le, needs to be knocked down a few pegs every couple of years, and is jaded enough to handle it. D'trel would inevitably try to end herself within hours of discovering that she's fictional.

There are some things that I just won't subject characters to (Three excepted). In general, the rule is "if they can take it without snapping completely, it's good to go".

I want to write a somewhat light-hearted story before I finish of 'season one' off Federalist, but I'm not sure how I want to do it. I've got a really old idea that's rolling around my mind, but many parts of the story got turned into my Mirror Universe story, and the rest of it was just kind of a mess to try to get together.

I've got an idea for a major story arc that could translate into a more 'novel' form for 'season two'.

Ael's not going to get put into our Verse, but the 21st century of the Prime Trek Verse... (the fictional thing I wouldn't do, for the same reason I hate Three's genre savvy, it would destroy immersion and the character)

And Ael can take it. She won't necessarily like it, but I know she can take it...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Sorry. Thought we were still talking the hypothetical story based on the 4th wall-breaking prompt.

And yeah, she can take it in the Trekverse for sure, but it'd suck big-time. And she doesn't deserve that.

The whole conversation's irrelevant now anyway because it seems that the EPH has pressured Smirk and company into dropping the LCs to 1/month, so we're probably never going to get to that prompt in my lifetime. :( At least we still HAVE the LCs...

Eh, point, that. She'd vaporize my head for coming up with her backstory, then she'd put the emission tube of her disruptor in her mouth. And I definitely wouldn't want to write that.

I say we, as an author's community, run these ourselves. Each two weeks, one of us gets to pick a prompt, either our own, or one from this thread, and we run with it for two weeks. We'd have to work out a system for who gets to pick it. Maybe a random number generator, or..... something?

We'll still create a posting thread, and a discussion thread.

Agreed. I volunteer myself to choose the first prompt.

We should create a rotation, and have a master thread listing who has what darkLC and when. There should be second to take the shadowLC if the primary prompter can't make it.

    Thoughts?

If we're gonna be creating threads to keep track of things and whatnot.... I wonder how easy it would be for a fanfic subforum to be created. One where we not only run these LC's, and keep the lists of who's up next, but for all stories, like the collaborations. Though given Smirk's comments, I doubt that would happen. We'd just have to start invading Ten Forward more.
And I admire your enthusiasm, but we're getting one in a few days, so to keep it fair, we should figure out the system of who picks and impliment that. We'll have plenty of time to come up with something.

Yeah, I figured it could wait until June or so.

A fanfic forum would be awesome. Someone should PM Trendy about that.

If we get a fan fic sub forum, we could do LC contests where every two weeks, the entries are judged and voted on by the community, then the highest vote-getter gets to come up with the theme for the next week's contest.

That would be complicated, but it sounds like a ton of fun.

Alright, I think that barring further information, I will set up LC: The Next Generation on the 1st of June, with a prompt thread, a discussion thread, and a master thread to keep track. This should give us our creative brain fodder while remaining mostly organized.

I've got it all worked out in my head (a place where everything is made up and the points don't matter)... The LC:TNG #1 and #2 topics could be chosen arbitrarily. After the first two weeks when LC#1's entry period is over, the LC#1 voting thread would open. At the same time, the LC#2 entry thread would open. Then, when LC#1's winner has been chosen, they can create a topic for LC#3, and when LC#2's entry thread ends, LC#2's voting thread opens as LC#3's entry thread does as well.

So, once it got rolling, there would always be an entry thread and a voting thread active. The winner of an odd numbered LC would choose the topic for the next odd numbered LC, and the winner of an even numbered LC would choose the topic for the next even numbered LC, and there would never be a lapse in active LC's.

Or, we could set up a rotation. Someone wants to choose a topic, they post on the master thread asking to be considered, and I or whoever else is managing the thread puts them onto the list.

I don't like the idea of having 'winners' for LCs. Feels too competitive to me.

I'd rather we vote on LC ideas themselves.
Maybe take the ideas from this 'Player's ideas for...' thread and vote on them.
Highest ranking LC idea every 2 weeks gets picked. New ideas could be added every month or two, and the polls reset.
I'm sure there is some sort of poll website/tool we could use.

No voting...that really takes all the fun out of it. I've seen it at other forums, and it just...isn't at all fun. :( That's one of the reasons I feel comfortable in this community, writing here, compared to places I've seen that turn hostile at the drop of a hat, and that's usually what happens when it turns into a competition.

I think things are fine the way they are.

Seeing the new format has 2 prompts and an episode re-write, we actually don't loose anything. We just essentially get 2 set off at the same time. So in essence, is this LC:TNG really needed now? When I thought it was going to be 1 prompt a month, I thought yes. But since we have 2 a month, nothing has really changed. We just have to set the deadlines for ourselves, remembering to end the first prompt two weeks later and start on the next one.

And we get the episode re-wrtie for an extra bonus.
