The away team beams back from a mission. But the captain isn't on the transporter pad! What does the crew do now? How do they find you? Do they find you? Do they try?
One of your crew members has come to you in a state of extreme excitement about a "foolproof business deal" that will get your ship some exotic and extremely advanced technology upgrades that you desperately want/need. A Ferengi trader who the crewman is acquainted with claims to have found the technology that you want in a derelict ship in hostile space, along with other possibly illegal shinies, and is willing to let you have the loot you want "at a slight discount" if you help xir with the salvage operation.
What happens?
You're angling for more Grunt stories now, aren't you?
"it Is The 29th Century And An Exploration Vessel Has Discovered A Long Lost Communications Beacon Somewhere In Deep Space. Scans Reveal It Has A Message Recorded From The 25th Century From A Very Familiar Captain. What Is The Message? Is It A Warning About An Impending Invasion? A Call For Help Against A Hostile Force? Perhaps It's Just A Simple Letter Home During A Long Mission Away. Write A Log From The Perspective Of A 29th Century Historian About Your Findings And How This Message Has Given You A Unique Glimpse Into The Past."
"On every starship, there is one person who is very important to the entire crew. One person to solve some of the most difficult problems the ship can come across in it's journeys. One person who knows more secrets than Section 31, who helps more people than an Emergency Medical Hologram, who can calm even the most curmudgeonly of Klingon officers. That person is the Ship Counselor, and right now, your Captain is due for their regular session. Write a ship's counselor log about one of their sessions with the captain. Is the captain undergoing any stress or trying to overcome a certain phobia? Perhaps the captain has a certain therapy technique they and the counselor engage in. Write out a log about the therapy and any progress the captain has made."
A former Vulcan priestess initiate with a penchant for Mountain Dew counselling a Romulan of noble birth who salutes the Federation Flag every morning... This could definitely be interesting...
"While investigating a strange energy signature in the outskirts of the Delta Quadrant, your ship comes across a derelict spire-like relay station of sorts. Scans reveal it is of Borg origin and it's data banks reveal a planet not far from your current coordinates. On the planet surface is a grounded Borg ziggurat of some kind. The old Borg data suggests this is the burial site of the very first Borg, Designation One of One. The Borg revere this being as a sort of icon to their Collective. Exploring the site could reveal major information on the Borg. But scans of the ship reveal a faint life sign inside it. Could One of One still be alive? Do you dare risk an encounter with such a mythical being? Write a log detailing the expedition. Is it simply an intergalactic ghost story....or can even death itself be adapted to service the Borg?"
Thought of this one for marcusdkane, realized that Three's psychosis would make this very, very interesting for her, too.
"Junior Officers":
Write a LC entry featuring some low-ranking members of your ship's crew, and a maximum of one main character (IE bridge officer, Captain). What do the redshirts and minions on your ship get up to in their off hours? At work?
Turn up for duty in their underwear and get assigned to the plasma relay room

Three's version? Out cleaning the hull with an Ensign in EV suits, Ensign's suit gets hit, damaging the helmet, Three takes hers off and puts it on him, then claws her way back to the airlock while suffering from decompression.

This is perfectly normal behavior for a unit.
I guess an obligation not to waste resources?
S'rR's once spaced herself from an escape pod without an EV suit at all, when she was kidnapped by Drake

Imprinting, actually.
Three can regrow eyes and skin and stuff, and she's got senses good enough to operate on a basic level by smell if need be, but she can't let an imprint die, even if saving that imprint would kill her.
Also, smart. Three once dropped Frankie on Nukara Prime sans EV suit. I need to post that one for an LC someday.

This was an LC collab with gulberat. She was immortal at the time, but fortunately Captain Strannik and crew beamed her aboard before too much harm was done

S'rR's goes through a lot of crazy sh*t, doesn't she?
Jim Kirk wanted to live up to the legacy of his father, George Samuel Kirk.
Jean-Luc Picard used to look into the starry skies over his family's vineyard, and dream.
Ben Sisko was driven by a destiny he didn't understand, and fought for years when it was finally revealed to him.
What led your captain to join Starfleet? And what drove him/her/it to the center seat?
--Nemesis unit designation Three landed through a shuttlebay on Earth after a inter-universe portal accident and signed up with Admiral Quinn in exchange for a starship and crew. Because she was damned if she wasn't going to explore, kill, mutilate, insult, seduce, creep out, get shot at by, and have s*x with a whole new universe. Besides, if she plays her cards right, she might get a shot at Mr. Data, who is, as "The Naked Now" proves, not only apparently well-endowed, but also tireless.
--Do'eth ir'Virinat (real name: D'trel ir'Aehallah tr'Rihannsu) joined the Republic for payback. Lots of payback. And the chance to really horribly mutilate and kill Colonel Hakeev of the Tal Shiar, and then destroy everything that he had ever worked for.
D'trel isn't the most stable of people. She's been clinically depressed, mildly psychotic, and borderline suicidal ever since her girlfriend was captured and tortured to death by Hakeev and his goons.
So yeah. Writing stories for that prompt would be fun for me, but slightly creepy for anyone reading them.
Yeah, but she EXPECTS it as a facet of the universe that she's in, and laughs and makes jokes about it, and openly prepares for crazy sh*t in her spare time.

Oooooh, interesting question
Marcus: Joined because of long family history in Starfleet, but did so as an engineering student, and was driven to command when the Akira Class test flight required someone with experience as both a pilot, and combat experience...
Amanda: Just wanted to make something of herself and 'Kirk it Up' along the way...
Ael: Idolized Donatra as a child, and wound up joining Starfleet when her family became Federation Citizens. She stayed with Starfleet, because the Federation gave her her first stable home, following a childhood spent on a cartography survey ship...
Bump to keep this on page 1, and to give Smirk some ideas for the overdue new LC.
"Slavers"
One of your officers is missing after failing to return from shore leave. Research determines that Orion slavers kidnapped xir and are headed for enemy space. How do you respond, and how does the kidnapped officer react?

One of my characters could actually combine these!!
Leonhardt Raglan: Joined Starfleet because he wanted to protect the Federation (and to continue the family legacy), but then when Orion Slavers hit the ship he was serving on and kidnapped his girlfriend, he disobeyed orders and went to rescue her. After he did so, liberating several other captured slaves in the process, he was court-martialed for disobeying orders and discharged. His closest friends (including his girlfriend) deserted Starfleet after this, joining Leo and going Merc.
So, yeah, both interesting ideas, and I could actually combine them with that character.
Wait..... I just remembered, wasn't there a thread a week or so ago saying Smirk was going on holiday for a few weeks?
Yep. Found the thread, he was there until Monday. I guess he's just not got back into the office yet.

"The Court Martial" - in which one of your officers (or even the Captain!) must stand trial for their actions.
"The Officer Exchange" - in which one of your bridge officers is selected to serve a tour on a ship from the opposing faction.
"Time after Time" - in which you and your ship are caught in a time loop, in which you and your ship are caught in a time loop, in which you and your ship are caught in a time loop...
[edit](by the way, OP, the LC topics are pulled out of a hat by our PWE community manager Brandon "Branflakes" Felczer, not by any of the Cryptic dev staff.)[/edit]

Based off of the TOS MU episode?
It was based off the idea of making a story based on the other characters, not just the captain.
I'm planning on tackling the next LC from a 'below decks' perspective, if possible
Yes. Of course. Who DOESN'T want more Grunt?
I want to see Grunt in "Latinumfinger", myself.
Yes!!!!!!!
Now this gives me some ideas

And Three doesn't?

Ryan joined Starfleet because both his parents were in Starfleet, as were his grandparents, etc.
Not particularly interesting...
However, he almost left the Academy when his parents were KIA, so I could probably talk about that instead.

...well now I feel like a pillock.
Smirk HAS posted in other parts of the forums, though; I guess we all assumed that that meant that he was in the office to post our new LC.
All 3 of these should be added to this game!
I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.
This is not a game suggestion thread. This thread is for Literary Challenges. Small fanfiction like vignettes based on our own captains.
