Logical fallacies fall into a few different areas, and you don't need to point out specific examples (like naming and shaming).

    Here's a list.

Personally, my favorite logical fallacy on the STO forum is the "No True Scotsman" fallacy. Specifically in regards to posters who like to invoke the phrase, "Real Star Trek" to compare to STO.

Yah pretty much every day there is at least one type of these posts. IF I'm forced into picking one...... appeal to authority. The reason being is it can be interesting to see what people say/beg to dev's or above.

Askray: What are your opinions on:

--Rebecca Romijin vs. Jennifer Whatsherface as Mystique.

--Who is more awesome: Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X, or Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto?

lol. Anything Cryptic has in store for us is a mystery as technically I'm a PWE volunteer not a Cryptic one. Now yes, I've gathered some thoughts etc due to being able to piece together things but dates, and what exactly is going to be released not a clue.

And what PWE has in store for anything? Mayyybe I know things you guys/gals don't know. Mayyybe I don't. Wouldn't you like to know? :P

Actually liked Rebecca more as mystique. Dunno why but for me she sold the part more than actually can't remember her last name either lol.

As for who is more awesome Stewart or McKellen, damn that is a VERY hard call. Ultimately I've always liked Prof X so I'm going to give it to Sir Patrick Stewart just on that. But it's only by character not by person otherwise I could never give an answer.

Bird watching... hey if it makes you happy go for it. I think it's stupid and you won't catch me doing it unless I'm outta my mind lol.

Askray, what is your take on a T5 fleet Miranda?

Take into consideration the Miranda was used to fill in the gaps in fleets when they were low on ships. They were used in fleets, and are still needed in fleets, though usually they blew up...

It's her charisma. The way she's wearing obvious prosthetics to make her PG-13, and she MOVES like she's naked and carrying a whip.

    Jennifer Whatsherface can't compete.

Good answer. I prefer Magneto slightly myself (I prefer Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard, but Magneto's attitude of quasidivinity just kicks butt), but I understand your logic.

Aheh I was waiting on someone to ask me about a T5 Miranda as I knew it'd happen. So let me put my thoughts on it. I would say yes..ish but here are my reasoning before I get lynched...

We do see Miranda's fighting in First Contact against the borg, and used a lot in the dominion war. So the possibility they would still be in operation is probable. Now that said, would I make it as strong as say a Oddy or Sov? No. They're squishy little ships and I wouldn't even make them ranked to be as strong as other T5 fleet escorts. They really became the cannon fodder in the Dominion War because (IMO as I don't know the intentions) the federation wasn't prepared to go for an all out war. This just came up and bit them in the toosh. So sure I could see it more than I could see the other ship people have been asking for, but not without some limitations.

Yes I do. 100%. Star Trek fans rarely agree on anything that comes down to the series. And it goes beyond the Picard vs Kirk arguments (Picard is better btw) and it's shown here on the forums day in and day out.

Not one day goes by that we don't have disagreements on how the game should go, how the story should go, how this series should have done things, how that should have been done etc and it makes for a confusing situation when you're a producer, show writer, game designer because you really have no true basis to say "Hey EVERYONE wants this lets do it for sure!" You have to settle for "well a good number of them like it so lets do it and be ready for the fire storm after".

If we all could agree on key aspects of things in the trek galaxy I think things would go a lot smoother for everyone (game designers, tv producers, movie producers) alike.

My team raised something like 10 grand for New Jersey Audubon, including two grand that I donated myself out of the cash I won from an essay contest.

My colleague Mike's team raised something like 15 grand for the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, because (a) they got donations on a per-species basis and (b) that team has Chris Takacs, who is the most obsessive birder in the state and who pulled 15 species out of a swamp that nobody even knew were in the area.

It was a good Big Day, even if the species counts were low because the weather was bad.

Edit to add: I don't hold it against you, BTW. Lots of people don't understand birding.

I would suggest watching the movie "The Big Year", with Jack Black and Owen Wilson. It really represents the most obsessive birders well and helps explain the sport.

To be honest, birding's a lot like hiking; the main difference is that your focus is on enjoying the birds and the environment, and not hiking a certain amount of trail.

Also Jennifer Lawrence is a much better actor, though Rebecca Romijin does look the part much better (ignoring that stupid electronic voice from the first film).

Humor: Real star trek is what I say it is and that's how it's going to be. That's what I feel people mean sometimes but...

    In honesty -
To ME Real star trek is anything to do with Star Trek. There isn't some shade of gray here, if it's star trek related it's star trek related and it's real star trek. The only time there is a difference of opinion in my mind is if it's classified as canon or non-canon. What they say is Canon is canon period discussion over. Who are we to say it isn't? Now we may not like certain things (Threshold....) but it's apart of the story that has been created and we gotta deal with it.

I can't actually define real star trek that I see people use on the forums. I see that and wonder what they are talking about (granted in more explicit terms in my head).

OK, critical questions: Who are your favorite ST and Stargate romantic pairings, and what is your opinion on Serenity (the movie)? In addition, what is your opinion on "Redshirts", by John Scalzi, and its forthcoming TV adaption?

Star Trek romantic pairings - Dax and Worf. I dunno why but I really liked seeing them together.
Stargate Romantic Pairing - McKay and Keller. I dunno why but they made such a cute couple and it was awesome to see McKay actually end up with someone....cuz well you know

Serenity I did enjoy. Thought it was well done, and was hoping more movies would be shown but well yeah guess not :(

Actually know nothing about Redshirts to be honest I know I'm horrible. :(
