I've seriously been getting the vibe off these forums the past couple weeks. Been a few 'cloak' threads, and even a couple 'Raider' threads, usually trying to justify gaining those things, mostly for Feds.
With season 9, BoPs got a hull buff and flanking finally added, while the PvP queues were merged as well, so no more hiding in FvF as well. Makes me wonder if that is partially why.
Even so, certainly feels like we are back in the olden days of 'Klingons are OP', at least by what I've seen on the forums. Some things never change, eh?
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Cant say I'm getting that vibe. Fedscorts are definitely at the bottom due their tac-heavy layouts, but they have the best cruisers and sci ships. Roms are the ones that are OP, no weaknesses at all, except for missing a full carrier maybe.
FvF was already pretty much dead because of the romulans before S-9
I havent had any myself and no one in my fleet has shown any interest in taking our non cloaking fed ships into the new que's to be targets for the Rommie's
theres no fun in being a target
Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng
JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse
It is a lot of ignorance. It isnt THAT easy to flank in practice, raiders are still quick to die compared to the Defiant (the chief federation "it sux" target), raiders have fewer tac consoles & aft weapons compared to Defiant. They dont "lose" DPS as much as they whine about it.
Just because Romulans can battle cloak, Klingon raiders are OP.
If they want to cloak the Defiant, then do it. I have gadgets i would like to slot too, but my builds dont allow for it.
Roach is right, I also got the feeling that the vibe never left. I'm calling it a pathological trauma from KDF, for laughs. Unfortunately it's not much far than the truth, aparently.
Some people seem to have long lasting trauma from the early days of STO, when PvP meant something and when the good ol' KDF reigned supreme most of the time. They just can't seem to heal the scars from the days of old and still project their briused ego on the usual suspect.
It's actually hillarious and sad at the same time to see, especially now after the Romulans who are so obviously OP compared to both the Fed & KDF, that there are people who still scream 'wolf' at the KDF. The elemenary lack of knowledge is mesmerizing as well.
Is there something about Starfleet that attracts the glass half full crowd? It is no fun to be a target, but pvp is what? A fraction of what the overall cloak envy is?
I am a BoP player now, and i was before S9. Flank or no, i love the class. Did i lament its non-Defiantness before? No. I run a Defiant as the main ship on my Starfleet Sci and Engineer, and i am working to rep up the Engineer. (Romulans bore me right now)
Reminds me of that scene in Bladerunner, where Roy Baty confronts his maker and says, "i want more life, f----r." Understandable, but sad on a few levels.
Roach is right, I also got the feeling that the vibe never left. I'm calling it a pathological trauma from KDF, for laughs. Unfortunately it's not much far than the truth, aparently.

Habbits of old never die, I guess. *shrugs*
Its Kerrat syndrome, special federation flower who thinks he is one of the hero captains (Picard, Kirk ect) goes into Kerrat expecting to be all badass only to get blasted back to the Sol system by a seasoned PvPer.
Then the fed gets mad and calls op and complains to the devs and nerfs happen. The cycle then repeats. Its been going on for 4 years now.
Pretty much this, though I do think it's hilarious Post-LOR era STO. With the advent of completely overpowered Warbirds alongside completely overpowered Rom/Reman BOFFs with their completely overpowered BOFF Traits, the Feds & Fed-Roms still like to think the KDF is overpowered.
I am HIGHLY amused when guys flying Dhelans, Mogais, T'Varos, Ha'Fehs, Scimitars, etc. are complaining that the KDF is OP, and the Bird of Prey being tops of the list. It gets even better hearing Fed-Roms complaining about BOPs having Battle Cloaks.
It's like they get seasonal Panic Attacks with nightmares that every KDF ship has Battle Cloaks on 9 second recloak timers.
feddies complaining about Klingon cloakers? pff. lets face it, KDF has the WORST ships in the game. no 5 tactical console ships, no 5 weapon slot ships, some of the weakest hulls, and no unique Boffs of any kind. i suppose the 4 universal BOPs are sorta scary cause you can literally do ANYTHING with those, but i feel like i loose more then i gain by not having that 5th Boff slot. even just a ensign science can be a huge difference to my surviveability.
no instead they complain about the cloaking device, the same part of the ship that somehow justifies a 5-6k drop in health over the nearest fed or romulan ships (btw romulans have cloak too, but have more hull). yet its really easy for feds to counter cloak. nebula lagspam console, charged particle burst, emergency power to aux, gravity well, tyken's rift, dispersal pattern with mines, etc. all really easy ways to deal with the possibility of a cloaked enemy near you.
its honestly more dangerous to cloak, and i say that as a reasonably experienced Brel and romulan warbird flyer. take any PVP situation (kerrat, arena, C&H) the last 8 matches i've done, i havent had a chance to flank. something decloaks me before i can get into position. instead i get nailed while in cloak, and cant do anything. the only thing you really have to worry about is a really experienced player, and they dont need a cloak, but will probably use it anyway to spite you.

Beat a Targ too hard and it will always be hand shy.......
Well we seem to be back on the old chestnut that is cloaking again lately. Though it is pretty amusing to read some of the terrible justifications the feddies try to come up with for it.

I'm just shocked by the insatiable greed of some people. Didn't these guys watch any Star Trek show at all, ever?
Seriously, the stupidest thing I've ever seen is someone that wants to play Star Trek, but they want the Star Trek which they play to look nothing like the actual Star Trek seen on TV? WTF?
It is kind of funny, I mean - shouldn't be - but it is, imho.
You could have a Fed flying with 4 Fed Roms vs. 4 KDF in non-cloaking KDF vessels and a single KDF Rom. When that single Fed gets popped by the single KDF Rom - zone chat's going to get lively complaining about the KDF cloakers, the OP KDF Raiders, etc, etc, etc.
It really shouldn't be funny, I mean it shouldn't be...but ahem, lol it is, imho.
I realize there are players out they that feel they should win every PvP match out there and they are the ones that are either crying for nurf's or the complete removal of cloak's from the game. But honestly I don't think the Dev's are going to bend to their will.
oh sorry, i need to rephrase. no 5 tact/5fore ships that make sense. >.> yes because the KDF are known for cruisers.... totally.
the empire famous for making raiders the scariest attack force in the galaxy, and their fleet version comes with additional engineering.
honestly, every time a feddy cries nerf on klingon ships, i want all BOPs to get +100 hull HP. just as a metaphorical TRIBBLE at the babies. of course, by saturday we'd be able to out tank a Hobo in a recluse just with hull but that's sorta beside the point.

Well, not quite: You can do anything...that another ship can already do better by virtue of having the same layout and better stats. Universality only matters when you can do something with it you can't already do.

Saturday? After a few hours in Kerrat, BoPs would have more hitpoints than Elite Tac Cubes. By the end of the day, you'd have more hitpoints than every enemy in every STF put together. This should totally become a Console. Console - Universal - Whine to SIF.
oh sorry, i need to rephrase. no 5 tact/5fore ships that make sense. >.> yes because the KDF are known for cruisers.... totally.
Actually...they are.
Not to the degree the Federation is, but still quite a bit.
There were no BoPs or other similar ships seen at all in TOS. Heck, we didn't see the Bird of Prey until Search for Spock and Kruge's BoP. Yes the characters were familiar with the ship type, but we the people in the audience hadn't yet seen it. Then we saw BoPs in several movies after, all in a row I might add: Voyage Home (Kruge's), Final Frontier (Klaa's), Undiscovered Country (Chang's), Generations (Duras sisters')
Past that, it was just in the shows that we saw BoPs. Now, while they were used a lot, particularly in DS9 during the Dominion War, it wasn't really a large, powerful ship.
That honor goes to the various larger cruisers we saw through the shows:
D-7
K't'inga
Vor'cha
Negh'var
All 4 were seen a fairly good amount throughout the shows. The D-7 and K't'inga mostly being a TOS thing, though we did see em in later shows. The Vor'cha was introduced in TNG. The Negh'var was shown in a couple possible futures, but was more properly introduced in DS9 as the flagship of the entire KDF.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

Oh hey do not for get the K'Vort Bird of Prey.. it was the size of a crusier.
guess we can blame Star Trek movies/shows where starfleet is always good guys.
Those feddies in game think of themselves as Kirk, Picard etc. and expect to win because they are in good side, and good side always wins.
Grinding for MkIV epic gear?
Ain't Nobody Got Time for That

They need to watch Game of Thrones (or read Song of Fire and Ice)
We still live!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaa! We live and we will conquer!!!!! Hahahahahaaha!
-Roach, when asked about Klingon extinction!
While I don't PvP personally, I think it is very un-Klingon for the Devs to not have any 5 tac and/or 5 fw escort equivalent ships in the whole stable for the KDF. They need a vicious killer that can kill a whiner at 10k away! <insert Worf scowl here>
Oh and as for that players to Kirk/Picard/ect .ect. comparison, Kirk/ect. usually just BARELY beat the Klingons and not until AFTER getting smacked around pretty hard , winning by the skin of their teeth.
I think NPC Klingons need a buff too, they need to be the fierce warriors like on the show.
But anyway. The reason I don't complain as much about the fact that the Romulans are obviously and undeniably OP is that Romulans are interesting, whereas Klingons shouldn't even exist. It was probably the worst thing about DS9. (It continues to amaze me that DS9, a show with so many glaring flaws, nonetheless wound up being the best of the series.) They're...well, they're like dogs. And I don't mean that in the sense of "dog" as an insult. They legitimately remind me of dogs. Klingons, in their general aesthetic, are like some sort of fuzzy sweater that digs into your back right where you can't quite reach. Or a slight sore throat. They're so...coarse. And bland, oddly enough. They're just ugly. Everything about them is ugly. Like everything else in the TNG era, really. But they deserve special mention.
