Though, it looks like they're going to be toning some of the Tribble stuff down based on Hawk's post in the Rep thread - so there will still be room for cheese.

I was treated to a delicious cheese feast last night by none other than everyone's favorite morose panda bears. There were so many photonic fleets, warp plasmas, pets, grav wells etc. that I couldn't even see my ship and then my laptop caught on fire. Thanks guys!

Hrmmm...do folks really consider their own hardware limitations to be cheese?

Don't get me wrong, I've lost it when going up against five folks dropping out Elite Scorps (oddly they cause me all sorts of issues that five folks dropping out all sorts of other pets, plasma poo, tet poo, grav wells, and just oodles of other things don't)...because there has to be something off with the pets to do that when other things don't...and knowing something is off - figuring they knew something was off - and thus exploiting the nature of those pets outside the normal scope of things...

...but run of the mill cats ate a box of crayons and puked it on the screen stuff rests solely with the person having the issues.

Like some of the issues over on Tribble with Fludiic Puddles and Rifts (man, if that stuff ever got into a PvP map I'd be begging to face 5x Elite Scorp full carriers in Solar Wind instead)...I know are my rig.

It just seems - well - to some, unless the other player is in an Escort and just doing regular ol' damage - then they're using cheese.

Sci Cheese...why are you killing me, stop taking my buffs - stop debuffing me - stop using that Sci Cheese!

Eng Cheese...why won't you just die - stop healing - stop using that Eng Cheese and living damn you!

Don't people know they're just supposed to sit there and let me blow them up! What's with all the damn cheese?!?!?!?!?!? And how on Earth did they kill me? Must be cheese!!!!!!!

    Meh...

One thing I will say about the current system (in regards to rep) is that it takes time in game to earn it. That time spent playing the game should translate to you being more powerful, otherwise what's the point? Certain consoles or set bonuses can be acquired with money again something you put time and effort into acquiring IRL. Lord knows I can't neck beard it and playing 24/7 to grind it all out so ya I throw more money than I should at this game but it's a reasonable rate of return for my enjoyment (albeit at the expense of others when they pop). I want a balanced game as much as the next fellow and I have been in the 2 hour long matched which PROVES the game is balanced almost TOO balanced. When I team up I aim to win so I team up with others that will help me achieve that end.If I dnot wanna die I pm finn, if I want insane Sci or recklessly awesome pure tac I hit up detroitdemon. Demon always puts together the best teams and yes we pug stomp but that's just luck of the draw. Much love to my bros in 32 vipers, teaming with them is the reason I still play period haha

I will say this tho amongst these ramblings, a fleet made of mine went up a vice squad pre made last month, no naming and shaming here just trying to put it on context, the match ended 13-15 in favor of them. I have the hilbert record of the match and when I looked our team had 0 to positive style and their whole team was negative meaning they were all running "cheese". 4 out of the 5 were running the subspace rupture torp. FOUR. So to say it was a chess fest is an understatment. No hard feelings but look how good we did with NO cheese on our side. Cheese isn't an "I win" if you have good communication and teamwork. It sure does help tho haha

No the elachi "black out your screen" douche console.

who ever thought up that console should be taken out back and shot. The pve in this game is so laughably easy to kill that console is ridiculous

Hey, hey, I hate that console too, but that is too harsh. What is even worse is the fact that they saw the feedback for the Space version and made an identical version for Ground combat a few months later. If you think it is bad in Space, then you should see what it does in close quarters. Not to mention it has a 30 second uptime and stacks with any other copies!

Ah, okay - when you said torp - subspace rupture - closest I could see was the rifts from the Grav Photon.

That console was massively nerfed previously (a good thing, imho) - as it stands, it's pretty damn laughable and I haven't been able to figure out why anybody would continue to use it except to perhaps buy a couple of seconds to toss a heal out to somebody.

You should see the Ground version of that ability. It covers 7 meters and lasts 30 seconds. The cooldown on the ability is 90 seconds...unless tactical initiative is active. TI drops the ability's cooldown to...30 seconds . A dampening field alone is balanced, but that trait is not fun to play against in Ground PvP.

People acting like that one match that got set up randomly through the queues the other day between IC and VS was somehow a big deal.... The IC team brough a full SCI troll group into the queues to I can aonly assume troll some poor pugs and and VS happened to have a mostly balanced team in that match, VS won.. big deal, it happens,....say conrgratz and move on to the next match.

What I dont understand is why so many people got angry/butthurt about the whole thing. The second ppl started dieing, insults started flying left and right from people on the IC team, talking **** about this and that and how "Were all Sci" and whatnot and thats why were losing.... It was after all your choice to bring that all Sci group in the first place.

All Im gonna say is that it was a fun match fighting against decent players. You guys made the decisions to come into the queues with 5 sci ships, no one forced that on you, why not just have fun, and enjoy the fight instead if spending all that time talking **** about how things would be different if x,y, or z happened.

Everything has a counter. Will i list counters? No that ruins the point of me having clicky consoles :D. If your counter is on cooldown, sucks to be you. But seriously just shut up and play. My fleet ran a premade last sunday for 7 matches, didn't lose once. No cheese as in no black hole, no tif, no yellowstones.... just boff and captain abilities. Although i think our leader's build could be considered cheese, placating polaron. I'm not even joking he's a fed and placates like every 6 seconds.

Yep, everything has a counter - but you can't carry all the counters. However, with the ability to switch out clickies - you find what the other guy can't counter. It's a very good case for not being able to switch out said consoles during in a PvP area...or including specific areas within a PvP area where one could switch them out.

Sure, I agree in not being able to switch consoles in pvp, even from inventory. No shield swapping either.

I think there should be a "base" area - for each side - where they could do that. Something akin to the bases in CnH - within that area, somebody could go and make changes to the ship. Sure, part of that is to centralize fighting around the bases instead of having it spiral up to the top of the map...but hey...

But still, that would leave room for that dance of adaptation back and forth between the parties - X is doing A now, switch out some gear, BOFFs, DOFFs over at the base and get back in there...rather than it being the guy disappears for a few seconds into cloak and then they're back with something different while the guy without the battle cloak is SOL.

Along the lines of what Hawk said about switching Rep Traits...
Hi all, QR'ing to the thread:

First off, thank all of you who have gotten on Tribble and tested out the powers changes. We are reading all your feedback and taking it seriously. Changing powers that are already live is never an easy decision to make, as it makes players have to re-learn the characters with which they are intimately familiar.

IMHO, everything should be a strategic choice...not just the Rep Traits. But with that base area where folks could make tactical changes...

That is a terrible idea. The greatest strength of some ships is their ability to carry a wide array of alternative loadouts to fit this or that situation.

Its star trek canon to take and change your deflector ability during a confrontation, or switch from one type of torpedo to another, etc.

If you cba to do the same then thats on you, no fault of the mechanic.

A deflector ability would be a BOFF - not the deflector itself. Changing ammo is not the same as changing the weapon.

We make changes that required canon time in spacedock to do...in seconds.

nothing in this game is canon. limiting item swaps might make snese logically but not from an entertainment point of view. people have had this option sicne day 1, and true specialist pvpers had many armor consoles to swap. swap kinetic when u see minimax. it happened then so why not now? its a great feature shoudl be able to swap any time imho.

C'mon, we all know that Kirk and Picard would have hit it. Janeway would have tried to learn it. Archer would have bored her into stopping it. Sisko would have walked in on Jake watching it and needed to have a talk with him.

because it makes the game about who has items

(same is true for BOFF abilities to an extent, but not as much, since anybody can pickup a boff and train it)
