The last time he did this it was right before a terrible update that i'm sure he knew he would get blamed for - only to sneak back into his old job once things have settled down.
Something tells me this situation isn't too different from the last one. Last time it was zynga, now its a 'secret project.' I'm not impressed at all. history has repeated itself, he jumped ship again. Don't even try to tell me otherwise.
And surprise surprise, he gets replaced by the same person who replaced him the last time, and was none too impressive with his way of handling things.
We should give Stephen a good feeling and a warm welcome to his new position.
How bad do you think will he feel reading only negative stuff.
Were you not around the last time this happened?
My understanding is that the communications "blackout" is due to the community in general. During the pre-F2P times, there would be "Engineering Reports" that were out every few months. This would list near-term, short-term, and long-term (ideas) that the team had.
Stop blaming the community for the devs bsing us. They said one thing and did another multiple times. They flat out lied multiple times, they even banned people for proving they flat out lied multiple times. Remember that whole 'we're not going free to play' incident?
The problem came from the community's expectation that these were "promises" and not a "hey, we are thinking about doing this but these are just what we would LIKE to do." The community was upset that XYZ feature was moved off the list that they were "promised" to get previously.
I repeat: they said one thing and did another. Multiple times.
So I guess we can now expect another round of questionable decisions Dan doesn't want to be associated with...
Indeed
You guys ought to stick to the military answer: "I can neither confirm nor deny..."
That keeps people guessing, creates uncertainty, and most importantly eliminates the accusation of falsehood.
I agree. Though as far as 'accusations of falsehood' goes. Thats bs. If someone states something that they or the company knows is false, they are lying. Lying to your customers is never acceptable.
So I guess we can now expect another round of questionable decisions Dan doesn't want to be associated with...
I smell a hard cap on something very soon. Thats usually when the EEPH comes online.
I have a feeling due to starbases for most fleets are either close to all T5 or have been T5 for awhile now that they are going to do something to get everyone on a new grind at the expense of losing stuff again like the changes into f2p or the reputations intro where we all got screwed over.
My first character when STO was in Beta and after that before the PWE bough this game was banned because of complained about what you posted above. (Lazarus)
EPH. I like that...'Please state the nature of the production emergency'. Welcome back, EPH. Looking forward to seeing which direction you'll boldly take STO in.
So long DStahl, here's wishing you all the success and cookies you could possibly dream of in the future. Thanks for all your hard work on STO!
***The above ramblings are, as always, my own opinion. Based on my experiences and interpreted by my mind, they by no means reflect the universal truth (unless coincidentally). Peace.***

After F2P and around when DStahl left the EP chair the first time, the communications dropped to the Dev Blogs and they only told the community things that are VERY near-term and did not discuss long-term plans as they change.
Matt
Hi Matt, thanks. I hardly remember those reports. I was there at the beginning for a year, stopped playing and came back with Season 7.
Well, maybe I am to sensual in this case. What angered me the most is for example the Icon revam thread a few month ago. 50 pages of concerns and problems sight handicaped people have and no response. Or this 1 month Launcher crash in November/December that affected hundreds of players.
I have asked the Devs three times how this could have happened and what we players could do to avoid this from happening again. No answer. Card, drivers, Ram?
And I think it wasn't about promisses, it was a lot about not listening to players that led to a lot of how the community behaves.
1. No, When PWE took over, they canceled all direct debit payment methods and I did not have a Credit Card at this time.
So I wasn't interested anymore up until S7.
2. I had a joke planed but this backfired cause I thought Stephen is Jamz or Taco or so.
Well, if I should be honest I haven't heard or seen from DStahl after he returned so the change in command should not really be an issue.
Of course this should not be anything negative towards DStahl. He did a lot for STO! S.D'Angelo has knowledge of STO from the transition era and thats a bit mending.
Nevertheless, I don't really think it will make a huge difference in the end. In the end it is the person who makes the content decisions we players see (and have to deal with) and that is in the end of Gecko...so as long as he is in charge I expect nothing special for me ingame. (Again, not meant negative regarding Gecko)
Tell you the truth, I starting to get annoyed about the Executive Producer musical chairs in STO. It might be the same group of people, but it is the 3rd EP since I started playing and the 4th since beta. Unless it just the thing that the mmo gaming industry does, it will be great just to see someone take the captain's chair and see it through until this ship has been decommissioned.
Now for the formal part.
All the best Dan with the secret project, welcome back Stephen.
Welcome back to command D'Angelo...(lots of D somethings over there).
Is the new captain gonna address the crew with what he plans on doing differently? Do we have a new mission? Is this gonna suck? Is it turbulent skies...or smooth sailing?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Still, good luck. We know there's a lot on your soldiers.
Good luck, Mr. D'Angelo! Glad to have you on board!
My personal hints for keeping the playerbase happy: Do not under any circumstances even HINT at a future lib borg faction. Stay geeky. Keep Klingon content and gear up to par, and don't be afraid to give the Empire some extra teeth. Stay geeky. Put lots of references to canon in. Don't nerf things overmuch. Stay geeky. Keep your promises to the player base. Stay geeky. Have fun. Stay geeky.
If you do that, I for one promise to be content. Especially that "Stay geeky" part; that's important. One of the reasons I play this game is that it's run by geeks, for geeks. This is a good thing.
Congrats to DStahl, hope the new project is worth it!
Good Advice.
I'd add...stay geeky.

That's because when they said we're not going F2P, they meant AT THE TIME. Anyone who knows business knows that 'at the time' can and probably will change. In fact, priorities change on a semi-regular basis
So yes, the community does have some share of the blame, no matter how you splice it imo. Because people jumped to conclusions that what they're working on was set in stone instead of 'we'd like to do this, but we'll see'.
And even all of that aside, the devs are human, and they can only handle so much abuse (justified or otherwise).
Frankly, it's amazing they haven't cursed us out more often
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
Welcome to the party new Captain. This rounds on me.:D
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.

Dude I was here when they said they will never sell the game to PWE and BOOM sold.
Stephen, sorry if this sounds rude, but my memory of your previous legacy is not the best. You clearly stepped up to be a shield block between the community and the company during times of fundamental change. I think we suffered a lot from your lack of communication and frankly, in how you allowed the playerbase to tear itself asunder about the revised F2P currency/economy and gameplay changes. I feel many opportunities were lost to nip things in the bud and vastly improve transparency in exchange rates and avoid sweeping changes out of the blue.
However, the past is the past and I wish you the best of luck in times to come. I hope I can look forward to where you will bring STO in the future.
Dude I was here when they said they will never sell the game to PWE and BOOM sold.
And I was here since Open Beta, and all that implies.
Again, what they say will happen and won't happen is 'at the time'. I've understood that even before I came to STO, so very little the devs have said/done has ever rubbed me the wrong way, knowing it will either happen or it won't; just some patience is needed to see which it is.

Yeap I was here in open Beta too. and I agree with you, they say we will never do this (at this time):D

(and no , I'm not being sarcastic ... as the KDF finish was so overshadowed by everything LoR ...)
Yeah that was first thing that came to mind when I was reading that Captain on the Bridge lol.

This is Deja Vu all over again.

I doubt he will have any communication even now much less since then lol.
Good thing they planned whatever is coming...
Dan can say well I was gone before that happened and EPH can say well I just got here I had no idea :P LOL
And that already has happened in the past. Nothing new under the Sun my son. Nothing new

Called it. Several people in meat-space owe me a beer.
Good luck Dan, and welcome to the madhouse, Stephen!
