As a player who has no use for any Arc features, apart from launching and updating the game, and since I am also one of those who would opt out of any data sharing, I would like to know why Arc will continue to run in the background after the STO is up and running. I honestly cannot think of a legitimate reason for Arc to do so.
I can, however, imagine nefarious reasons for it to do so.
So now, PWE/Devs, I have handed you this opportunity to explain why Arc must operate in this manner. Please do so as a thorough, honest explanation of what exactly is happening in the background may put this whole matter to rest. That is unless there is, in fact, something nefarious afoot.
I, and, I suspect, those like me, simply want our privacy respected and to have the option to have Arc shut down entirely once the game is launched. Especially those of us who have put money into the game.
I don't want to be adversarial about this Arc issue. I suspect others in my position don't want to be adversarial, either. Please don't put us in that position.

I can't help thinkin' that all lifers whom are unhappy about ARC and other degredations of the service you subcribed to, should be seeking legal counsel... possible class action suit in this to get reimbursed for failure to maintain status Quo in a lifetime contract.
I'm an LTS who will drop this game completely when/if ARC is made a mandatory component required to play (as well as ANY OTHER Cryptic MMO). That said, if you bothered to read the TOS and EULA we all agreed to, it stated they can (Cryptic/PWE) can make changes to the game as they see fit.
^^^
Thus, there is no real basis to file a lawsuit over ARC, regardless of how they decide to implement it.

So doing a little more leg work I have come across 28 pages of posts from the Forsaken World forum. It sheds a great deal more light on the "politics" of PWE. I am providing the thread link if anyone wants to read the posts. The posts are extremely well written with no trolling or flaming going on that I can see. As most of you already know, Cryptic is not the problem here it is PWE. The lack of communication by PWE seems to be across all of their gaming platforms. In one of the posts there is a block diagram of PW and how it all ties together. Brandon all I can say is the more I investigate the more i sympathise with your situation being caught in the middle, (players on one end and PWE on the other). I know you dont get very many kudos, so I am throwing you one now. Thanks for acting as a buffer between PWE and the players. Hope you and the "Cryptic" staff have a great up coming Thanksgiving. As for the PWE staff well, lets just not say anything!

Cryptic's got nothing to do with the decision to use or implement ARC (or at least I hope not), that's all on PWE, and it's why I refuse to even acknowledge PWE's existence
I hope they tell us the date this mess launches. That way, I can uninstall STO from my system.

Looking for a new fleet? Drop by the in-game chat channel, "tenforwardforum", and say hi to the members of A Fleet Called Ten Forward (Fed) and The Orion Pirates (KDF). If you already have a fleet you are happy with, please feel free to drop by our chat channel if you are looking for a friendly bunch of helpful people to socialize with.
I can count on one hand the number of things in this game's history that have gotten this much universal negative feedback from not just five-post nobodies, but forumites with history and clout. And in each of those cases measures were taken to fix or at least ease whatever was causing the fuss.
Granted, since this is a cross-game thing well beyond the scope of merely STO, it may not be enough, but experience tells me Cryptic is absolutely reading this thread and is almost certainly passing the concerns along, for all the good it'll do.
Sadly that might be why dezstravus has been so phenomenally cordial and upfront. It's possible there's not much they can do about it and they're at least trying to do everything they can think of to soften the blow.
Personally I'm rather nervous to see what becomes of this. I play via Steam and by all accounts so far my experience will be virtually unaffected, but this whole situation is... awkward. Guess we'll see.
i am hoping one of the cryptic people reads this. what exactly will arc be doing on the computer, not the surface stuff that you would expect off a launcher with all the shiny graphics and such, but how ARC will run in the background? memory usage, what it's main aim is, if it will continue to harvest information off my computer even though i switched off the "opt-in" feature, will it "react" to any other launchers, will it always remain active in the background... so on?
I would like to know that this piece of software isn't going to suddenly jack up the memory usage by 200x and completely hard crash the computer one day or receiving thousands of spam emails from china regarding a whole range of TRIBBLE just to make you click on their links..
i also like to know that if people "opt-in" with this software that the information will not be sold off to some marketing firm somewhere for a pretty little penny.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

P.S. The FW forum has the same opinion of ARC as most here do.
I've installed arc, cause apparently they will eventually have only That to access the game, from what I hear.
Change is inevitable friends. You can't stop change. As unfortunate as some changes are.
If you use Steam, that's another way, I will be when I have to

Maybe already asked or not - depending on the 1000s of complaining no arc requests... Can we have the game icons updated to the status of the game ...
All the time next to the tab buttons to launch - they have LIVE on them ...so must be planned somewhere ... cant we have them changed to show:-
Live ... All working fine and alive
or
Maintenance ... meaning server is down to play, but you can launch and Update - Orange
or
Down ... meaning the end of the world - Red
Now runs off and hides in the wormhole ...
