there is nothing ominous about the avenger, it looks like its made of lego.

Firstly, I don't know why people keep saying that, as it's an incredibly inaccurate statement. Saying that "the Avenger looks like it's made of Lego" is like saying "the Odyssey looks like a whale"; it makes me wonder if you've ever actually seen either whales or Legos in your life time.

Secondly, you apparently also haven't seen the Avenger with the ship-specific hull texture and window/escape pod patterns. The thing looks downright dangerous, especially when it engages enemies and all the combat shutters close over the windows, cargo bay, and nacelles.

No, and your displaying a lack of knowledge of KDF battlecruisers. The closest ship to the avenger is the Torkaht. Where the Avenger has LCDR tac + ens Tac the Torkaht has LCDR tac and LT tac. Which means the Torkaht has CDR eng + ens eng --> It cannot AuxtB very well. It suffers the same problem the D'd has for Romulans. There are no other KDF battlecruisers with LCDR tac boffs  Fed just one upped the KDF in terms of their iconic warship.

Avenger is a nice ship, I've toyed with it and love it. I'm also primarily a Rom player now but still think the KDF need more love to keep up. Honestly, at this point Feds have the best science ships, escorts, cruisers, and now the best battlecruiser.

Having played a Klingon character in the past, I'm very familiar with the Empire's battlecruisers, thank you. And the fact remains that the concept is a very good one. One the Federation has been without for far too long. That was my main point.

And considering the level of scientific and engineering expertise, and R&D infrastructure possessed by the Federation, it's a given that it will be superior in technology and capabilities.

BUT, the average Federation-only player will have some learning to do. The Avenger isn't meant to be played like an escort or typical cruiser. It's meant to be (mostly) played in a way that KDF players are pros and have the most experience at.

I barely use any of my Fed Characters but I know that I'll be adding this Federation Battle Cruiser to my collection just because of its load out possibilities.

    1. It can Equipped Cannons

    2. It has a sweet Turn Rate

    3. It actually has a Commander Engineering Station and not a Tactical!

    4. It can use a standard Cloak (Token the Defiant and you're good to go!)

The ship is more or less just a KDF Battle Cruiser but it has a much better Boff layout IMO.

Both of my Starfleet Engineers will be Dry-docking the Excelsior and the Galaxy Dreadnought for this Battle Cruiser.

    This, exactly. Thank you.

And, as a player with a few KDF characters under my belt, I'll be waiting with bated breath for the Empire to develop an analogue to match the Avenger and the Scimitar. I feel it'll be quite the mainstay when it finally comes out.

I still consider myself a newbie so here is my take. First a picture:

As you can see I named her (with the help of the great fans of The Bl;ack Ocean's Facebook Page) the Basilisk. She is so ugly she'll turn you to stone but she will also kill you, dead.

I think of this ship as a pug dog. So ugly its cute.

I usually fly a Defiant Refit. This ship can take more punishment AND dish out more damage. What's not to love? I grabbed my 25 bucks and happily became a member of the Wallet Warriors and I sure ain't looking back.

I am in the process of upping my rep on this character so I can get some even better goodies.

I really like this ship. On other characters I have the Scimitar and the Ha'Feh. The only ship I like better is the Ha'Fah and that is only because she is so damn pretty, sleek and fast. But she also hits like a ton of dilithium crystals.

I disagree. Pugs are inherently cute, not "so ugly they're cute".

As for rep system on this beast: I'm trying it out with Romulan Plasma DHCs/turrets and Embassy Consoles. Stuff dies when I look at it. On my Engineer. I'm terrified what one would look like on a Tac.

According to the stat of this ship from paper, this is a very competitive cruiser class to that of the Fleet Assault Cruiser.

But Fleet assault cruiser might be just a tad better than this one, but just imho...

It's not, though. The Avenger will always hold the advantage because it's more maneuverable, more resilient, and can mount heavier weapons, all while having the same tactical capabilities as the Assault cruiser. Same goes for the Fleet Battle Cruiser.

Better? I dunno (still don't understand this game's intricacies well enough to tell you one way or the other). The Imperial-class is definitely a little bit more durable on pure stats (300 more crew, 1,650 more armor, +5 shields and aux instead of +10 engines). But the shield modulation command on the Avenger feels like it evens the odds.

Got tons of EC for modules and Fleet Credits to spare. :)
Wait, you can buy fleet modules with EC? I thought it was Zen only?

They are not bound, so players sell them on the exchange...

Ah, OK. I've been around a while but never bothered with fleet ships yet, and I don't spend much so didn't think about the exchange. Thanks. :)

I decided to get the fleet version right away. Tested it out in SB24... easily took 1st place thanks to being able to dish out punishment while barely getting its shields scratched. I never imagined that DHC's on a cruiser could be so much fun.

What really makes the ship come alive are the new cruiser command modes -- you get increased weapon power, increased shields, or increased mobility depending on which you need for the present situation.

This is what the Galaxy Dreadnought should have been.

EDIT: The VATA modules are pretty sweet too :D

I don't remember off the top of my head, but I recall seeing 10% shields damage resistance among the listed stats. I'll post the full stats once I get home if no one else posts them sooner.

True, but it doesn't get the VATA-torpedoes. If you get the Z-Store Avenger first, you get a fleet module discount on the Fleet version.

I finally caved in and got the Avenger this morning. After bashing it's looks all last night to my fleet mates on TS I felt a bit silly but hey. I think it's definitely a ship that grows on you, still not the prettiest of the bunch and I miss the sleek lines of the Reagent but like others have said it hits like a freight train and then keeps dishing out the pain. My character is an engineer, and I've never seen damage numbers popping up like what I've seen today. This ship is a monster, I hate to think what it would be like in the hands of a capable tactical officer with Attack Pattern Alpha. Torn between the Type 6 and the Avenger skin, both are great and the little armour bits that extend over the warp grills/deflector and windows are great touches.

Don't think I'll be flying anything else for a little while! See how things look when the comm arrays get transferred to the other cruisers.

I feel so weird. I actually love the look of the Avenger and still have't bought it yet. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

If I buy it I'm going to want to fly it, and if I fly it that means I've ended my STO break early, and if I end my STO break early that means I haven't got all the grind-angst out of my system yet, and if I don't get all my grind-angst out of my system I'll just be snappish with my wife, and if I'm snappish with my wife she's going to kick my butt. So it's better that I don't buy it yet. :D

even with that, it doesn't change the fact it looks blocky as hell, it really doesn't look ominous to me, its also pretty small, you would expect a "battlecruiser" to be bigger.

the scimitar for instance is a ominous ship, the avenger is not.

aesthetic opinions can be pretty diverse and i guess some people like lego.

The K't'inga is a Battlecruiser. It's 350 m long. The Avenger is about the same size of an Excelsior, so around 450 m long. How can a ship 100 m longer then a "Battlecruiser" not be considered a Battlecruiser? :)

except every cruiser(klingon made) the klingons have is a "battlecruiser", this is the federation we're talking about here, you would expect the feds getting serious enough to build a battlecruiser, it might be something a little bit... bigger.

the bortas is a battlecruiser and its huge for instance.

not to mention that both the k'tinga and excelsior are older models.

The Odyssey is huge and it isn't a Battlecruiser. The Defiant isn't huge and it packs more firepower then most Battlecruisers. Size doesn't need to be the only thing which denotes power.

And since the K't'inga and Excelsior are both in this game at T5.5 it doesn't really matter how old the model is. :)
