Too easy now.. i mean, i know why they changed... but.. i liked when queued and dont know what i was going to find... thousands of ships or none at all... with people dying everywhere, i liked the way it was... maybe nerf it a little, but now... i fell to sleep last night.. too tired from work while playing, and i won, with my pets in my Vesta...

Dunno, now is faster... but not more fun... anyway, thanks for the ride :P

Normal? Hard? I mean, if everyone's a freakin' moron getting hit with crystals and buffing up the entity, sure it could be a bit frustrating.

Aside from that, it's just like what it's always been, except with the new hazards, which are almost negligible. My tactics haven't changed much from the "sit and shoot" tactic. For some reason I almost never get aggro from crystals...

Indeed, and when it's absorbing energy, got christ-sakes.... stop shooting at it. And it's not like that is expecting too much of people since it it's splattered all over the screen when it starts to do that.

True, but for one thing you can still pound on it with torpedoes even during those times (good time for tric bombing). Additionally, if you're tanky enough to take the ensuing energy blast to the face and survive when others don't, thats extra points you can get self-healing while taking out the competition for 15 seconds. After all, the real objective is to beat the other players, and if you can sabotage them, why not?

I can survive the blast, I usually don't attempt to and simply just BC and move our of range, and then reapproach while firing torpedoes.... it's the point that several people just blow up from the blast they helped charge.... and if they had been paying attention it could have been avoided..... I really dislike any team event where it is glaringly obvious that people aren't really paying attention to what they are doing.

It's totally do-able! I've been PUGGING it at elite for about 5 days now and on all 5 or 6 of my characters. The problems I see are that some players go after anything and everything that spawns! Most of those players don't live very long and the primary result is that there's ton's of mirror ships floating around... Many players still swoop into the entity and attack it at close range, or swoop within 5km and fly around at that distance and fire away, not caring about or heeding anyone's warnings. Then there are those whom apparently don't watch nor head the warning that the entity is absorbing... Then they get blown up lol

Then there are those few PUG's where things go very smoothly - most of those times are when everyone's in a group. "We" go and kill off the tholians, and move towards the entity and fire at distance - ignoring the mirror ships! YAY! During those times - if some of us get attacked by a bunch of shards then I'll pull back to concentrate fire on them, sometimes it helps sometimes not.

    corjet wrote: »

With the above observations I've come to the conclusion that one way to quickly finish the mission would be to have a couple of "DPS'ers" and the a couple of "DPS-Protectors" and one floater. The DPS'ers would scoot within the 10km range (not less than say 9.0). They would directly attack the entity. The DPS-Protectors would scoot to about the 10.5km range, their job is to kill all large crystals - and from what I've observed there's a lot of them. The floater's job is to help out with the DPS-Protectors and maybe attack the entity - if there's enough DPS from the Protectors to do so. When the entity is absorbing power, everyone's far enough to be able to scoot out of the way; and redirect towards the Tholians. And then, do it all over again.

Modified to: kill off the tholians, and move towards the entity and fire at distance - ignoring the mirror ships!

Maybe have 2 floaters if a bunch of shards start coming, because one can't do it alone :)

    Hi Captains!

As I mentioned here, we were looking into the possibility of extending the end-date for the event. Great news! We'll be extending the end-date by four days (Monday, October 21, 2013, around 10AM PDT).

Thanks for your patience as we worked to get the changes implemented yesterday and we hope you're enjoying "Crystalline Cataclsym"! We'll see you in the queues!

    Cheers,

This is good AND bad news!! Good because it has many issues and 2 weeks of grinding in a 3 week period is tight this time of year. Bad because it means that the FE will be delayed that much more.

Can you give any hint hint- wink wink as to when we might expect it?

I could see season 8 delayed to next year because of the FE and the Christmas event shortly after. I would hate that there be a gap of 2 months between the end of CC and the Christmas event - that would not be good.

Did they change it a few days ago so elite only gives 60 fleet marks instead of 80?

Elite has always given 60 :) You get 80 if you complete it during the Bonus Mark calendar event.

I have to scratch my head at people who denounce content as too easy. They go out and get all the overpowered broken gear they can, load up on it so they can survive ridiculous damage and generate even MORE ridiculous damage themselves, and then complain the game is easy.

Of course it is. If you're using all that broken gear to MAKE it easy, it will be easy.

Look at me. I consider myself a decent player. I know the strategies, and I know the tactics. Even so, I still find these things challenging. Why? Because I'm using NORMAL equipment. I equip my ship to get more options (like the Breen energy drain) rather than for more and more and more damage.

Before requiring the devs to make the game harder, see if there's a way you can do it yourself. Try it again using Mk I equipment, and tell me it's easy.

This is not what mmo progression is. Mmo progression is acquiring the best skill tree, the best gear. The best boff seating and testing your mettle against new and challenging content.

We have been bashing our heads in elite borg stfs long enough. It is time for content to catch up to players.

Why use low ball gear when you spent so much time acquiring your "leet" gear and then not using it?

I wish I could implement encounters, there are classics that this game could use big time
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

You're assuming that Cryptic wants to build a traditional MMO progression-gated end game.

There's no evidence that they want to do this, though.

Not to be a stickler, but Elite hasn't always given 60. It used to give 40 (outside of bonus hour) but was raised several weeks after LoR went live. The same happened for CCN.

In any case, however, it's never given more than it does currently. ;)

The LoR patch notes from May 21st show CC's original drop rates:
The Crystalline Entity queued event is now available in both Normal and Elite versions.
Completing this event awards items and Dilithium, plus a box that grants you your choice of Nukara or Fleet marks.
25 marks for Normal, 40 marks for Elite.

Well here is how easy CCE is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESY3Sl5xZfg

Total playing time of 1:50 seconds. This is a bunch of us on a quick pickup game from the dps-11000 channel. We did this, this morning.

We have guys doing 30-40k dps regularly--though most of us are in the 25-30k region. One guy banged out 53.4k. Oh, and all of these parses are done on ISE as it is the easiest to parse the most accurately.

But, our record stf runs are:

ISE: 13:27 left on optional timer. http://www.twitch.tv/ryansto/c/2888394

KASE: 13:19 on optional timer. http://www.twitch.tv/ryansto/c/2888432

CSE: 13:37 left of optional timer. http://www.twitch.tv/ryansto/c/2888455

HSE: We cleared it in 3:02 of total playing time (excluding 1 min start timer) http://www.twitch.tv/ryansto/c/2888357

CCE: 1:50 of total play time. (vid already link above)

NWS: 7:20 of total playing time (Excluding 1 min start timer) http://www.twitch.tv/ryansto/c/2793088

I'm a tac in a dreadnought. I don't want to do a premade cos it results in 5 scimmies just taking 1-5 spot.

So I pug. I pack Aceton Beam III, Tachyon 1 and Tyken's 1. I have virtually no self-healing capacity outside of Eng Team 3 and RSP2. I use A2B and therefore have 100% uptime on all CCE debuffs. I even have AOE dps like CSV1 and TS1, spamming quantums like the 4th of July.

I think I've done everything I can to make sure pugs can't fail me.

But ALL IN VAIN!! I still don't have top spot!! AGAINST PUGS!! D:

Just what is wrong with my build?! D:D:D:

Use 2-3 piece borg set plus some shield distro doffs for massive passive overhealing and enjoy 1st place every time.

I once took the time to stop and read the briefing at the start. I recommend others do the same.

The CE has no shields, so your Tachyon won't work.
The CE has no power levels, so Tykens won't have much affect.

Without knowing all of the things you bring with you on your ships, my recommendations are to get yourself a Gravity Well and balance your setup between damage and healing. Use your tac abilities, like Fire on My Mark and Attack Pattern Alpha to both debuff the CE and buff your own damage output. Use arrays instead of cannons, and do a full broadside. That should be much more potent than cannons on a cruiser. Good luck.

People still have not read the pop-up at the start of the mission.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

You might think from the description that tykens and tachy dont do anything...

But they are the best skills to have vs the entity. Bar none. gravity well and torps are also good, since she is weak vs kinetic damage

using them makes her weak. She cant stack up her crystallize damage. She hits like a weak little puppy :)
