PWE signal issues

l9of20l9of20 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I am getting a little tired of PWEs signal issues. I am running a gigabit router off a 50 Mbps internet connection. But here lately I have been dealing with massive lag spikes. I have done ping tests to PWE's servers and they always come back horrible. But if I do a ping test on something like google itself, it is super low, like not even 10. WTF is up with that???????????????????

It's getting a little boring about telling the same story every time, but let's give it another shot:

Just because you have a clear line to google, dosen't mean you have a clear line to PWE.

Remember, it's not like you have a direct connection to PWE... It goes through a series of hubs and routings before it reaches PWE/Google/9gag whatever.

For example, heres a tracert to google:
    Tracing route to google.com [94.138.88.110]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 1 ms <1 ms 1 ms 89.*.*.66
    3 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms te1-2.abn-pe-01.* [89.*.*.110]
    4 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms te1-2.abn-cor-01.* [89.*.*.86]
    5 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms te1-4.hnd-cor-01.* [89.*.*.73]
    6 2 ms 6 ms 2 ms te1-4.hos-cor-01.* [89.*.*.16]
    7 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms 94.138.88.67
    8 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms cache.google.com [94.138.88.110]

    Trace complete.

Here's one to the STO WEB server:
    Tracing route to startrekonline.com [208.95.185.44]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.1.1
    2 1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 89.*.*.66
    3 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms te1-2.abn-pe-01.bbsyd.net [89.184.128.110]
    4 1 ms <1 ms 1 ms 130.185.142.18
    5 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms 130.185.142.17
    6 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms 93.176.94.173
    7 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms kbn-b3-link.telia.net [62.115.32.117]
    8 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms te4-7.ccr01.cph01.atlas.cogentco.com [130.117.14.33]
    9 11 ms 11 ms 11 ms te0-17-0-6.ccr42.ham01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.72.206]
    10 20 ms 20 ms 20 ms te0-2-0-4.mpd22.ams03.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.60.185]
    11 28 ms 32 ms 33 ms te0-1-0-2.ccr22.lpl01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.37.110]
    12 94 ms 100 ms 94 ms te0-5-0-3.ccr22.bos01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.44.189]
    13 94 ms 94 ms 97 ms te3-2.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.46.130]
    14 101 ms 107 ms 106 ms 38.111.40.114
    15 98 ms 98 ms 101 ms www.playstartrekonline.fr [208.95.185.44]

    Trace complete.

As you can see, the responsetimes are more than satisfactory to google, since the routings have a quick reaction time... However the connection to the webserver (i keep saying that, because a webserver and a application server are two very different things, another thing you must consider) from STO starts lacking speed as soon as it's routed through cogentco.

THAT is what is giving you lack... NOT PWE.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Actually I myself have been extremely surprised with ingame connection. A few weeks back I was getting constant dc's, major lags etc etc etc. Now though I have not had lag, random dc's. I have had no problems logging in etc etc etc. STO runs better than it has ever done for me.
Yes there has been server stability issues in the past, but I have not seen any of that for atleast coming up for 3 months now.
Like you have said it is not always PWE's fault. Again like Sopwithe has said it is always easier to lay blame with others.

You wait now I have said this I will start having major probs.

Hope you are keeping well anazonda:)

It looks like Cogentco is a primary provider for MMO's. If you Google 'em (how's that for ironic) you can find complaint threads on lag time for WOW with Cogentco as the primary culprit... just a note of interest. :P
*STO* It’s mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!

Cogentco's been a problem for years for some portion of players. Unfortunately there's not much Cryptic can do about it.
